02:32those who gave up their sacred light on earth
02:36so that the sublime light of American freedom
02:40would shine forever and ever
02:44this Memorial Day
02:45we salute them
02:47we exalt them
02:49and we thank them for all that we have
02:52and for all that they gave
02:54they gave everything
02:5510 days into the legendary Battle of the Bulge
02:59in World War II
03:01Lieutenant Colonel Keith Ware
03:02led 11 men in a tank
03:05against entrenched German positions
03:08the toughest positions anywhere in the world
03:12half the patrol
03:14including Ware himself
03:15were soon wounded
03:16yet still
03:17he killed five
03:19enemy riflemen
03:20demolished three German machine gun nests
03:23forced a fourth to surrender
03:25and captured the hill
03:27for his heroism
03:28he received the Congressional Medal of Honor
03:31unlike most drafted soldiers
03:34Ware stayed in the army
03:36and rose to the rank of general
03:38a highly respected general
03:39in Vietnam as commander of the 1st Infantry
03:43the Big Red One they called it
03:48that's very nice
03:51he led from the front
03:53and in 1968
03:55that's where he was shot down
03:58surveying enemy positions
03:59for the famous assault
04:01on Hill 222
04:05known as the Fighting General
04:07he's buried here in Arlington
04:08and with us
04:09is his grandson
04:11and namesake
