00:00This is Franco Colopinto coming out of the Alpine garage and oh there's Fernando Alonso
00:05deciding to take up a bit of real estate in front of him.
00:09We're going to have a look at that I wonder.
00:11To the line we watch now behind Lewis Hamilton and picking up a toe.
00:15Verstappen going quickest and into the 1.14s now.
00:19Half a second clear of Oscar Piastri and now Lando Norris to the final chicane.
00:24But Colopinto going second fast isn't a decent lap from him to only be a tenth off the Red Bull.
00:29Lando Norris best of third on the grid here in previous years.
00:33A 1.142 from him goes weight distribution right as well.
00:37So you keep the inside of the car unloaded and he crosses the line just under a quarter of a
00:43second.
00:44A drift of Norris but Antonelli is now between him and Norris as you can see.
00:50Yeah, 15 one thousandths of a second slower than Lando Norris.
00:54Lewis Hamilton past the Wall of Champions which he brushed in the sprint race a little earlier.
00:59Hamilton goes sixth fastest behind Colopinto.
01:02Next across the line will be Charles Leclerc in the other Ferrari and Leclerc 2 right now with Oscar Piastri.
01:09That's early part of the final chicane.
01:12Piastri on his way towards the line.
01:15Another for the best of thirds on the grid.
01:17It's probably the shortest run to the line.
01:20The ride has felt quite a bit worse today than yesterday.
01:24Leclerc right down at the bottom because his time was deleted.
01:28So not exactly a stellar first few minutes for Charles Leclerc.
01:32Lewis Hamilton setting off on another fast lap.
01:36Max Verstappen completing another fast lap and going fastest once again.
01:41Once again then we're seeing Max putting in some benchmark times.
01:45George Russell goes a tenth fastest.
01:47They were separated by 0.16 of a second last year.
01:50At the end of Q3 it's 0.11 of a second currently between Russell and Verstappen.
01:56Antonelli trying to get in between them or ahead of them and actually goes ahead of them with a storming
02:02lap.
02:02Half a second clear there of George Russell.
02:05Isaac Adjar next across the line.
02:07And he finds time too to go four tenths ahead of his team mate.
02:10Hamilton next across the line.
02:12Only seventh fastest though for Lewis Hamilton.
02:14Really ramping up so this makes everybody nervous even the front runners.
02:19And that's a big front axle lock up from Nico HĂĽlkenberg.
02:22The first of actually quite a lot we've seen from him.
02:25Nico HĂĽlkenberg who qualified 11th for the sprint race.
02:29The fifth time in seven qualifying sessions he's qualified 11th this season.
02:33His team mate Gabriel Bortoletto giving the grass a little bit of a trim.
02:37This is Charles Leclerc's moment.
02:39As he hit the bump there and went over the curbs at the final chicane after a lock up.
02:45And no way that he could avoid that given the lock up happened so close to the apex of the
02:52corner.
02:52Bussi Fernand who would not want to lose 22 kph if he could help it.
02:56I mean that's very close to the speed limit in pretty much all of London isn't it?
03:00And Wales.
03:02That's the difference we're talking about in straight line speed.
03:06Arvid Lindbergh crosses the line.
03:08Goes third fastest.
03:10He actually goes third fastest.
03:11And I wonder if that is the bit of Oli Behrman's car that he was talking about.
03:15Crossing the line now.
03:17Behrman goes 11th fastest.
03:19You can see side pod look.
03:21He's got a problem there.
03:22Front left of a piece moving around.
03:26HĂĽlkenberg's got the urgency to try and get into Q2.
03:28And he does so but only just pushes now.
03:32Bortoleto into further trouble.
03:34And Alex Albon towards the bottom six as well.
03:37Bottas, Stroll, Perez, Alonso, Bortoleto and Albon all in that bottom six.
03:42And Ocon just the right side of the line.
03:44Bortoleto on his second visits to Montreal last year.
03:48Was here as a rookie.
03:50This year gets in the P16.
03:53Gets himself out of that bottom six.
03:56Who's improving behinds?
03:58Nobody.
03:59And we can see here what might have happened to him on his flying lap.
04:04Big lock up.
04:09Yeah, so frustrating when you do that in the first corner.
04:12It just feels hopeless.
04:14You know, there's really...
04:20He nearly ended up in the same barrier as Fernando Alonso yesterday, but sideways instead of forward.
04:26So it was actually a very good save.
04:28Yeah.
04:28And loading the inside wheels as much as you can.
04:33Stay a little bit right for the line.
04:34And we're in the low one minute thirteens.
04:38So we've got to be expecting 12s, haven't we, this afternoon.
04:42All on the new tyres, of course.
04:44The P5.
04:45Hamilton to the line.
04:47Goes second fastest.
04:48Only three 100s off Lando Norris.
04:51Barely anything to choose between the two British drivers.
04:54Yeah, Lewis really plays dear against that champion's wall, doesn't he, on the exit of the corner.
04:59He likes being up close and personal with that.
05:02And Leclerc then gives it a little bit more of a margin.
05:05What's it done for his lap time?
05:07Not a whole lot is a second shy.
05:09Here comes the Mercedes.
05:10Russell is fast.
05:12Antonelli quite a bit faster behind him as Russell goes into P4.
05:16Antonelli's about to smash that and go to the top of the table.
05:20I wouldn't be at all surprised.
05:22Still doesn't quite get into the 12s, but we're nearly there.
05:25Yeah, well predicted.
05:26And a couple of tenths.
05:27Well, tenth and a half up on Lando Norris.
05:29Battery drains almost to empty by the end of that back straight.
05:34And now how much has he got to deploy down that main straight?
05:38Enough to take him fifth fastest.
05:41He ends up, Max Verstappen, four tenths off the pace.
05:44Yeah, he didn't take the tight right line to the line.
05:47Hadjar goes second then.
05:48He's certainly looking a lot happier than he was in Miami.
05:51This is a key point.
05:52It's difficult to spot the braking zones there.
05:56You've got to have a reference point on the racetrack as well as the high markers up on the catch
06:01fencing.
06:02And he crosses the line.
06:03And Leclerc struggling.
06:04I can't get my phone ties in the window.
06:07It's really, really bad.
06:09Like yesterday, you know, the island is like driving on ice.
06:12I'll be there.
06:13Charles Leclerc, 13th, 3rd, 19th, 10th, 11th and 8th in terms of his qualifying here in Montreal.
06:21He's only reached Q3 in half of his six previous appearances.
06:24I think Liam Lawson is the same.
06:27Ah, that is why he abandoned that one.
06:30Yeah, so the problem is the tyres come out of the blankets at 70.
06:35You then trundle down the pit lane out onto the racetrack.
06:40And you've got to get them up to 100, 100 plus.
06:43Franco Colopinto for company along with Bortoleto and Behrman and Gasly.
06:47This is George Russell with a big lockup going into turn one.
06:50And there's a lap that goes begging straight away.
06:53Russell down in eighth place.
06:55Solid middle sector.
06:57So Lewis then, if he can flow nicely through this last chicane.
07:01And just a little bit of sliding as he hits the throttle.
07:05He's heading to the line.
07:07And what does it do for him?
07:08Puts him fastest.
07:09This man, Liam Lawson, who is completing another lap.
07:14And by four one-hundredths of a second, missing out on the top ten.
07:17Here comes Hadjar.
07:19And he goes quickest.
07:20And it is very, very tight.
07:23Less than two tenths between the top five currently.
07:26And another impressive run by Isaac Hadjar.
07:29We're about to see the answer to that, I would well imagine.
07:34But it's a 13-4.
07:35It only actually matches his Q2 time.
07:38But he was up on Isaac Hadjar through the first two sectors.
07:41And as Hadjar now crosses the line, half a second difference between them.
07:45Piastri put in a storming middle sector.
07:47Lost a bit of time in the first part of the lap.
07:49But goes quickest by nearly half a second.
07:52Piastri takes provisional pole.
07:54But his teammate Lando Norris behind him can snatch that provisional pole off him
07:58by just under three-tenths of a second.
08:00Lewis Hamilton flying in the first sector.
08:02About a tenth off Lando Norris in the middle part of the lap.
08:05What's the Ferrari got to the end of the lap?
08:07Enough for a front row currently.
08:09Just a tenth between Norris and Hamilton with Leclerc, Russell and Antonelli to come
08:15to try and ruin Lewis Hamilton's front row party.
08:18Here's Charles Leclerc, crosses the line and P4 for him.
08:21Towards the line, one pits and the other doesn't make it to the front row.
08:26Hit the wall, didn't he?
08:29Certainly looked very, very close.
08:31I think he might have damaged the right rear or got a puncture against the wall, George Russell.
08:35Let's watch.
08:37Nothing on the rear.
08:40What's going on with this straight line speed?
08:43Because it's completely...
08:46Absolutely flat out through the exit car, moving around and Antonelli does go fastest.
08:52Three poles in a row, could be four poles in a row in Grand Prix's for Kimi Antonelli.
08:58They are charging fast behind him.
09:01The two McLarens improving in the middle sector.
09:03Leclerc goes to P4.
09:05Lewis Hamilton...
09:06Can Lando Norris snatch pole position back again?
09:08No.
09:09He's on the front row and it leaves Kimi Antonelli out in front.
09:12But here's Oscar Piastri next to cross the line for McLaren.
09:16What can he do?
09:17Only third, Antonelli stays on pole position.
09:21But George Russell goes fastest through the middle sector.
09:25Hajar next to cross the line.
09:26P5 for him.
09:27Well ahead of his teammate, Max Verstappen, who says it's just impossible out there at the moment.
09:32Through the final chicane, we've got Kimi Antonelli trying to make it four poles in a row.
09:38Here in Montreal, is it four poles in a row for Russell?
09:40Well, it is by the merest hundredths of a second.
09:43George Russell's done it right at the end.
09:46Verstappen goes P6 and just ahead of his teammate, Isaac Hajar.
09:51And it was nip and tuck between the two Mercedes drivers.
09:55But like sprint qualifying, George Russell has left his best till last and he takes it.
10:02Nice work.
10:04Really a nice work.
10:07Yes!
10:09Whoa.
10:10Well done, mate.
10:11Keep me posted.
10:12Is that good enough?
10:12Yep.
10:13That is good enough.
10:15Well done.
10:16Oh, we made that a bit tricky.
10:19We made that a bit tricky.
