00:08Vaught Rising is the next big spin-off in the world of The Boys, expanding the universe
00:12created by Eric Kripke. It's tied to the main series, which is currently heading into
00:17its fifth and final season. The prequel was first revealed over a year ago at San Diego
00:22Comic-Con 2024. Now, if you're wondering what's going on with it, when it's coming
00:27out and whether it has started filming, here's the quick update. Vaught Rising is expected
00:32to release on Prime Video sometime in 2027. And yes, production officially kicked off in
00:38August 2025. Since then, the cast has been steadily growing with several new names being added
00:44along the way. Now, let's talk about who's actually in Vaught Rising. Jensen Ackles and
00:50Aya Cash are leading the show and also producing it. They're reprising their The Boys roles as
00:55Soldier Boy and Stormfront, which already makes this spin-off a big deal for fans of
01:00the main series. A bunch of other cast members have also joined over time. Elizabeth Posey
01:05was announced in March 2025, while Will Hockman was first reported by Variety. Later in August
01:122025, more names were added to the lineup including Jordan Myrie, Niccolo Passetti, Ricky Staffieri,
01:18and Brian J. Smith, all coming in as series regulars. Around the same time, Deadline also revealed
01:25that Mason Dye and Kiki Layne joined the cast as well. Interestingly, Dye was already set to
01:32appear in The Boys Season 5 as Bombsite before being added here too. Prime Video also gave fans
01:38a first look at some of the core characters in costume. Will Hockman will be playing Torpedo
01:43and Elizabeth Posey is set as Private Angel. More cast members kept getting at it as Vaught Rising
01:49moved through production, especially through late 2025 and into 2026. In October 2025, Cecily Strong,
01:57Mark Pellegrino, Eric Johnson, and Annie Shapiro joined the show in recurring roles, as reported by
02:04Deadline. Around the same time, more additions followed, including Raphael Sparge, Romy Schrader,
02:10Aaron Douglas, and David Hewitt. Fast forward to the end of March 2026 and another wave of casting
02:16news came in. Deadline revealed that James Wolk, Dylan Arnold, Josh Randall, and Chad Willett
02:22had all been cast in important recurring roles. There's also some interesting potential crossover
02:28talk. Ethan Slater's character, Thomas Godolkin, the founder of God U introduced in Gen V Season 2,
02:34might show up in later seasons of Vaught Rising, though nothing is confirmed yet.
02:39Now, what's Vaught Rising actually about? At its core, it's a twisted murder mystery set in the 1950s
02:46that explores the early days of Vaught. The story digs into how the company first came to power,
02:52along with the dark beginnings of the superhero program behind it. It also focuses on the early
02:58exploits of Soldier Boy and the secret manipulative rise of Stormfront, who back then was known as Clara Vaught.
03:05Eric Kripke and showrunner Paul Grelong described it at Comic-Con 2024 as a salacious,
03:11grisly saga filled with blood, compound V, and plenty of disturbing secrets from Vaught's past.
03:17The idea is basically to show how everything in the Boys universe started getting corrupted
03:23right from the beginning. A big part of the story connects Soldier Boy and Stormfront,
03:28whose origins are closely tied. Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles,
03:32was the first non-aging American soup, created by Frederick Vaught during World War II.
03:38He later ended up marrying Stormfront before they eventually moved to the United States.
03:43So instead of just being a superhero story, it's more like a dark origin saga showing how Vaught's
03:49empire and its monsters really began. Now here's the thing. Vaught Rising already has a strong hook,
03:56but it also walks a pretty fine line when it comes to Stormfront's backstory. And that's where things
04:01could get controversial if the show isn't careful. The Boys has always been about stripping away the
04:07shiny superhero image and exposing how messed up these soups actually are. That's why characters
04:13like Stormfront exist in the first place. They're powerful, but deeply flawed and often outright
04:18unlikable. One of the more interesting and potentially tricky angles the spinoff could explore
04:23is Stormfront's personal life during that era, including her being a mother to a young daughter
04:28in the 1950s. That adds emotional complexity, but it also opens the door to storytelling choices
04:35that could easily become controversial if not handled carefully.
04:39The challenge for the show is clear. It needs to expand on her origin in a meaningful way without
04:45actually softening or over-explaining a character who is already meant to be morally disturbing.
04:50If it leans too far into sympathy or justification, it risks clashing with what the Boys has always
04:56stood for, showing that power doesn't excuse the damage people cause. So the real test for Vaught Rising
05:03isn't just revealing Stormfront's past, but doing it in a way that stays true to the dark, uncomfortable
05:08tone of the universe without crossing into storytelling that feels unintentionally controversial.
05:13This is where Vaught Rising gets into tricky storytelling territory. In the prequel's version of events,
05:20Frederick Vaught develops Compound V, a chemical capable of giving ordinary people superpowers.
05:26He first successfully uses it on his wife Clara, transforming her into one of the earliest
05:32supes tied to the origins of Vaught's empire. Around the same time, their family grows with the birth of
05:38their daughter, Chloe Vaught. Since the series is set in the 1950s, Chloe would likely still be very young,
05:45probably around 10 years old at most, during the early stages of Vaught's rise. That setup naturally
05:51places Stormfront in a very different light, showing her as a mother navigating family life while also
05:57being part of something much bigger and darker. And that's exactly where the show has to be careful.
06:02The challenge with Stormfront's character is that she's already established in the boys as a deeply
06:08disturbing figure, a Nazi, a murderer, and an unapologetic racist who's committed horrific acts
06:14while hiding behind a heroic image. She manipulated, destroyed lives, and tried to position herself as
06:20almost godlike in her beliefs and power. At the same time, the main series also showed glimpses of her
06:27personal side, her genuine attachment to her family, memories where their husband and daughter,
06:32and emotional moments that hinted she wasn't just a one-dimensional villain.
06:36That already made her a layered antagonist, still evil interactions but with personal history
06:41that explains how she became who she is. That's why Vaught rising as a delicate balance to maintain.
06:48Exploring her early life and motherhood could add depth, but if it leans too heavily into making her
06:54relatable or sympathetic, it risks softening the impact of her character in the boys.
06:59The audience is supposed to understand her complexity, not excuse her actions.
07:04Ultimately, the show's biggest challenge is this. It can humanize Stormfront, but it can't justify her.
07:10Because at her core, she isn't just a product of her environment, she's someone who made deliberate
07:15choices that led to widespread harm and destruction. The series itself is being produced by Sony Pictures
07:22Television and Amazon MGM Studios, along with Kripke Enterprises, Point Grey Pictures, and Original Film.
07:29And Vaught Rising isn't the only expansion we're getting either. There's also The Boys Mexico in the
07:35works, which is being executive produced by Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal. And that's everything we
07:41know so far about Vaught Rising and how it's shaping up inside the boys universe. But now, I want to
07:46know
07:47what you think. Do you feel like this spin-off should fully humanize characters like Stormfront
07:51to explore their past? Or should it keep them more mysterious and disturbing to protect the impact
07:57of the boys? Drop your thoughts in the comments below. And if you enjoyed this breakdown, make sure
