00:00What was your turn?
00:03Yeah, I mean, my knee, the positives, my knee felt good last week playing,
00:06and it's been feeling good, and I could have rushed it and came back.
00:10Like I was telling my team, you know, I wanted to play as how I am.
00:13I wanted to play Madrid.
00:14I wanted to play Rome, but, you know, just looking at the scans
00:19and talking to the doctor, we wanted to give it the proper time
00:23that was recommended, and I feel like I've kind of gotten over the hill
00:30vous pouvez dire avec le knee

01:26de stubbornness about wanting to play?
01:28What was the sort of final decision
01:30or balance like of agreeing
01:32to step back with your team
01:33and riding that out?
01:34Do you think it was the right choice
01:35overall to wait as long as you did
01:37in the end?
01:37I mean, my team literally came to me
01:39after Miami and said,
01:40you know, you can go play Monte Carlo,
01:42you can go play whatever,
01:43but we're not coming with you.
01:45So, you know, that makes the decision
01:47pretty easy in the end.
01:49And it's fair.
01:51You know, I felt like I'd play
01:55one match, you know,
01:58on anti-inflammatories, feel good.
02:00And then after like one match,
02:02I'd be playing through a lot of pain,
02:05even on the anti-inflammatories.
02:08So that's just not, you know,
02:10it's just not ideal.
02:11It's not sustainable.
02:12And then we obviously want me to be healthy
02:16and in a good spot with the knee
02:17for the grass court season.
02:19And, you know, all the stutter stepping
02:21and the, you know,
02:24choppy steps that you take on grass
02:25is not ideal for it.
02:28So I felt like, you know,
02:30the decision in the end was just,
02:33let's try to get it better.
02:34So, you know, by the time
02:36grass court season comes around,
02:37I can hopefully play 100%.
02:44How engaged and prominent have you been
02:46in the discussions about Grand Slam prize money
02:48and are you sticking to the 15-minute rule today?
02:53Yeah.
02:53I mean, I've been involved with all the guys
02:58as pretty much all the top players have been.
03:02and I think at the end of the day,
03:04it's not about wanting more money.
03:09It's about just wanting what's fair.
03:12And as the tournaments make more money,
03:16we'd obviously want to see the revenue
03:19shared back to the players reflect that.
03:21And I think, you know,
03:22obviously when it's going the opposite direction
03:25and going down, it's disappointing to see.
03:27and we've been pretty patient
03:30and mild with, I'd say, our requests.
03:34And it's kind of like, I don't know,
03:36it feels, I think all of us feel
03:38it's a bit, you know, disrespectful
03:39to just be ignored when, you know,
03:43the sport is the healthiest
03:46when I think there's a very fair partnership
03:49and, you know, open dialogue
03:50between the players and the tournaments.
03:53And I think as well asking for the,
03:58just contribution to the pension
03:59and stuff like that is really fair
04:01when I think the ATP has done that
04:02for a long time.
04:03And obviously the Grand Slams make
04:06the bulk of the revenue in the sport.
04:08I think it's a pretty simple, simple ask.
04:10And I don't think we're asking
04:11for anything too crazy.
04:13Hi Taylor.
04:14Given that, if you continue to be ignored
04:19and more action is required
04:21in the view of the players,
04:23could you imagine a world
04:24in which you'd be prepared
04:25to boycott a Grand Slam?
04:28I don't know if I want to start
04:29throwing around the B word, but...
04:32Because it feels too radical?
04:35It's a big, it's a really big deal.
04:37And I don't think, I don't think
04:38we as players should really,
04:41I don't know,
04:42make big threats like that
04:44unless we're fully ready to do it.
04:45And I think that's a discussion
04:46that we need to have
04:47and we need to see
04:48what the potential ramifications
04:51for doing that are.
04:53But yeah, I mean,
04:54it gets to a point where,
04:56you know, something does have to change
04:58if we are ignored.
05:00So that's a conversation to have.
05:02I think, right, you know,
05:03like I said right now,
05:04I'm not ready to start
05:05tossing that around
05:05because I, you know,
05:08I want to really mean it
05:09if I'm going to say it.
05:10So no discussions about the B word
05:13has specifically happened?
05:14Not that I've been involved in.
05:16I've also been out
05:17for the last two months, so.
05:22Probably two more.
05:25Hi, Taylor.
05:27I wanted to ask if,
05:28how the, you know,
05:29the 15-minute rule probably works.
05:32Is it 10 minutes for the news conference?
05:36And if so, are you on a clock?
05:40I think the 15 minutes is however
05:42I want to make it,
05:44use my 15 minutes.
05:45I just came in here
05:48and when, yeah, I don't know,
05:50when I'm told I'm done, I'm done.
05:53I mean, I like talking to you guys.
05:56It's only been about
05:57less than six minutes so far,
05:58so you could spend more time here
05:59if you wanted.
06:00But I'm curious for you,
06:01you posted just Instagram,
06:03you know, slideshow
06:04of yourself in the gym.
06:05I'm wondering how much
06:06you feel like you were able
06:07to improve physically
06:08while sidelined
06:09and if that's something
06:10you take pride in,
06:11that's going to set you up
06:11longer.
06:12Yeah, a lot.
06:13I think, yeah, I mean,
06:14it's also about bulking up
06:15with, you know,
06:15your lower body joint
06:16having issue also.
06:18Yeah, well, the thing,
06:19the idea wasn't actually
06:20to bulk up.
06:21It's my knee
06:22and it's a lot of load
06:22on my knee.
06:23So the idea was actually
06:24to lose weight
06:26while also trying
06:28to not lose muscle
06:30and put on muscle,
06:31which I was able to do
06:31and that's why I posted.
06:32I guess people don't really
06:34get to see me that much
06:37or don't know,
06:37but I guess people
06:38that I guess know me
06:39more closely would know
06:40that, I mean,
06:41that's probably,
06:41I was just posting it
06:43because I was pretty proud
06:45of the work that I put
06:47in over the two months.
06:50I've probably never really
06:52like been in this good
06:54of shape like physically.
06:56I lost, I think,
06:59I lost, I think,
07:0112, 12 or 13 pounds
07:05and all my lifts and weight,
07:07like all my lifts
07:07in the gym went up
07:08so I got stronger
07:10and was able to lose
07:11a lot of weight
07:12and lean out.
07:13So, yeah, I mean,
07:15I was really committed
07:16to working really hard,
07:19which isn't easy
07:20when you can't play
07:20a ton of tennis.
07:21You have to, you know,
07:22I was doing a lot
07:23of other types of cardio
07:24that I could do on my knee
07:26and sticking to
07:28a really strict diet,
07:30which I've never
07:31really done before.
07:32So, yeah,
07:33I was just proud
07:34of kind of what I did
07:37and how I used my,
07:39I guess, my time out.
07:41Hi, Taylor.
07:42As someone who has played
07:44quite so many events
07:46as you have over the years
07:47and kind of needed
07:48to be forced by your team
07:50to stop at the moment,
07:51what has it been like
07:52for you just psychologically
07:54to not be going to events
07:56and being at home?
07:58It felt weird.
07:59You know, I told people
08:00this was the longest stretch
08:01I've spent at home
08:03since COVID.
08:04You know, I think for people
08:06it feels weird
08:07after off-season,
08:10you know, coming back
08:10and playing that, like,
08:11first match of the year.
08:12It feels like a little rusty.
08:13You haven't played matches.
08:14That's only, like, five weeks.
08:16You know, this was two months.
08:18It's a long time
08:19to be away from, you know,
08:24competitive tennis.
08:25It's longer than an off-season.
08:27And it's tough to watch tournaments
08:32and watch people playing
08:33when it's going on.
08:35This is something I've said,
08:36you know,
08:36I'm a huge advocate
08:37for having more time off
08:38from the tour
08:39and, like, us playing
08:39less tournaments.
08:40but it's very hard for me
08:44to just watch big events
08:47going on
08:47that I could be at,
08:49that I know I could be playing,
08:50obviously, through pain,
08:51but I could be there playing.
08:52It's not easy to see.
08:53So I try to, like,
08:55not pay attention to it.
08:56I really don't know much
08:58of what's been happening
09:00in tennis
09:00over the last two months.
09:04One quick last time.
09:08Catch you up.
09:09What's been happening
09:09over the last two months?
09:10It's been Yannick Sinner
09:11winning everything?
09:12I've seen that, yeah.
09:13Yeah, so what do you think
09:14about sort of the challenge
09:15for the field, I guess,
09:17with him, you know,
09:18having won all five
09:19Masters events this year.
09:20He's kind of on that level,
09:21unprecedented dominance.
09:23What do you think
09:23it would take for any one
09:25of the other 127 guys
09:26to be able to derail him here?
09:29I mean, someone would have
09:30to just play a, you know,
09:33play a great match
09:34where everything's kind of clicking.
09:38And, I mean, most importantly,
09:39they're just kind of winning
09:41the big points
09:42and playing well under pressure.
09:43And I think at the end
09:44of the day, that's, you know,
09:45that's what he absolutely
09:46does better than anyone.
09:47I think he plays the, you know,
09:49the big points so, so well.
09:51And so even when, you know,
09:53guys can get those small
09:54opportunities in the matches,
09:56you know, he really,
09:56he really shuts them out of it.
09:58And, I mean, it would also take,
10:00it would also take him, you know,
10:02having a little bit of a,
10:04of an off day,
10:05maybe showing some nerves,
10:06but there's been absolutely
10:07no signs of that.
10:07And to be honest,
10:08when you're really confident,
10:11as he obviously is right now,
10:13it's, you know,
10:14you don't really feel
10:15those nerves too often.
10:16So I'd say it'd have to be a,
10:19you know,
10:20storm of different things
10:22coming together.
10:22but the thing about tennis is,
10:24it's like really anything is,
10:26anything is possible at times.
10:27Thank you.
10:29Thank you.
