00:00Is it a matter of time before such a vaccine can be created?
00:03It should be. There are quite a lot of candidates.
00:06So pharmaceutical companies, researchers have some possible vaccines.
00:09The difficulty is that to do a clinical trial for a vaccine, you need there to be patients who are
00:15unwell.
00:15And so you can't do a trial unless there's an outbreak.
00:18And so now we have to move very quickly in manufacturing a vaccine from these, you know, samples on a
00:25shelf,
00:25getting it into the field, getting consent from communities.
00:29And that is something that doesn't happen in a few days.
00:31So it could be three months or six months before a trial can even happen.
00:35So realistically, for this outbreak, we're going to have to work with the tools we've got.
00:39And that means going back to basics.
