00:18United States begins pulling back troops from Europe under President Donald Trump's administration.
00:24And the big question being asked tonight, is this just a military recalibration?
00:30Or the beginning of a new era where Europe is forced to defend itself without depending
00:35on Washington?
00:36The controversy started after reports emerged in 2025 that the Pentagon was considering
00:41withdrawing up to 10,000 American troops from Eastern Europe, especially from Poland and
00:46Romania.
00:47These forces were originally deployed after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in
00:522022, when the Biden administration rushed nearly 20,000 extra troops into Europe to
00:57strengthen NATO's eastern flight.
00:59At the time, Poland and Romania publicly pushed back against the reports.
01:03And the full-scale withdrawal never actually happened.
01:07But now in 2026, things are changing for real.
01:11The Trump administration has officially confirmed that around 5,000 U.S. troops will leave Germany
01:16over the next 6 to 12 months.
01:18At the same time, planned military rotations are also being canceled, including an armored
01:23brigade deployment to Poland involving nearly 4,000 soldiers.
01:26That means America's active military footprint across Europe is slowly shrinking.
01:30Germany remains the biggest U.S. military hub in Europe with more than 36,000 troops, but
01:35that number is expected to drop significantly.
01:38And behind this decision is a strategy Trump has pushed for years.
01:41The White House argues that Europe has relied too heavily on American military protection while
01:46failing to spend enough on its own defense.
01:48Trump has repeatedly accused NATO allies, especially Germany, of not carrying their fair share of
01:54the burden.
01:54But this is not only about money.
01:57Washington's strategic focus is increasingly shifting towards China and the Pacific, with
02:01U.S. officials viewing Beijing as the primary long-term challenge.
02:04At the same time, growing tensions in the Middle East and disagreements with European allies
02:08over the Israel-Iran conflict have added new friction.
02:11Reports suggest disputes over military cooperation and access to bases further accelerated discussions
02:16about troop productions.
02:17Still, NATO insists this is not the collapse of the alliance.
02:21American officials continue to publicly support Article 5, NATO's collective defense guarantee,
02:26while saying Europe now needs to take greater responsibility for its own security.
02:29Even after the cuts, the U.S. will still maintain tens of thousands of troops across Europe,
02:34along with massive air power, logistics, and nuclear capabilities.
02:37But critics warn the move could send the wrong message to Russia, especially if Europe cannot
02:41build up its own military strength fast enough.
02:43Supporters, however, argue this is simply the next phase of NATO, where European nations
02:47finally step forward as equal partners instead of depending almost entirely on Washington.
02:52So the real question now is not whether NATO is ending.
02:54It is whether Europe is truly prepared for a future with less America.
02:59They are completely prepared for the United States...
