The Outback town of Axehead has a problem, and it is not subtle. Locals keep turning up ripped to shreds, the kind of violence that makes you immediately regret reading the first sentence. Maddy, the only lawkeeper in town, does the whole “find a clue” thing. She gets… nothing useful. The investigation hits dead ends faster than you can say “maybe it’s not a real suspect.”

Then her uncle, Schmitty, drops the lead that sounds like a joke. An undead kangaroo is roaming around and somehow connected to the killings. Maddy does not buy it. Why would she? But when the bloodshed refuses to stop, she’s left with the one conclusion she’s been avoiding.

So she teams up with Schmitty and Tante Donna and goes after the killer marsupial. Death is on the schedule. Smart? Not really. Fun? Absolutely.

Axehead im australischen Outback. Alles ist staubtrocken, bis die Leute reihenweise so brutal zerlegt werden, dass man beim Lesen schon den Magen rebellieren hört. Maddy ist die einzige Gesetzeshüterin der Stadt und tappt erst mal in der klassischen Ermittler-Falle. Spuren? Fehlanzeige. Wer steckt dahinter? Auch nicht. Dann wirft Onkel Schmitty den absurdesten Vorschlag in den Raum: Ein untotes Känguru soll das Ganze veranstalten. Maddy lacht höchstens kurz. Bis die Morde einfach weitergehen und sich das Märchen nicht mehr wie Märchen anfühlt.

Am Ende bleibt nur eins. Seite an Seite mit Schmitty und Tante Donna stellt sie sich dem Killerkänguru. Und ja, das hier ist der Moment, in dem Logik freiwillig kündigt.
