00:05Introducing first, fighting out of the red corner, wearing the black trunks with green trim,
00:09he stands five feet, five inches tall, he weighed in at 130 pounds even.
00:15Tonight, he enters the hexagon, undefeated as a professional, 11 fights, 11 victories,
00:24fighting out of South Brunswick, New Jersey, Turbo!
00:30Turbo, Pumi, and Kuta!
00:36And now his opponent, standing across the cage, fighting out of the blue corner,
00:41wearing the black trunks with blue and white trim, he stands five feet, eight inches tall,
00:46he weighed in at 129 pounds.
00:49Tonight, he enters the cage with a professional MMA record of 21 wins versus six defeats,
00:55with 11 of those wins coming by submission and four knockouts.
01:00Pariana Brazilia, Brazil!
01:04Introducing the multiple-time world champion, and one of the highest ranked flyweights in the world,
01:12is Bryan Bernardino Marais.
01:27All right, gentlemen, we've been over the rules.
01:29Protect yourself at all times.
01:31Follow my instructions.
01:32We're going to have a clean fight.
01:33Touch gloves if you wish.
01:35Let's do it.
01:35Marias was abandoned on the streets of Brasilia days after his birth before being rescued, adopted, and eventually finding purpose
01:43in martial arts.
01:45Nakuta, he had to do what mom said first, get a college education before starting his MMA career.
01:51He attended Hofstra University just down the road from the Cerro Longo Shark Tank.
01:56And we begin, scheduled for three rounds, the 11-0, Pumi Nakuta in the red corner, and a former champion,
02:09Adriano Marias, in the blue corner.
02:11And immediately, Marias already utilizing a lot of that footwork, of course, in Brazil.
02:15They train in something known as capoeira canning, which is actually, you hide your fighting techniques by dancing.
02:22That's right, and for him, he's going to have to keep Nakuta on the outside with that long range.
02:29Nakuta has an excellent blitzing attack and double-leg takedown that Morais is going to have to be careful with.
02:35There's a right hand to the midsection by Nakuta, sat down on that lead right, pawing with the jab, Marias.
02:45Low inside kick there by Nakuta.
02:48A lot of fainting here in the opening minute.
02:51Circling each other, trying to get a read on your opponent.
02:56Watch the fingers.
02:57And right now I see a huge footwork and speed advantage for Nakuta, Marias.
03:01Still trying to figure out his range.
03:02There's a nice long-range attack there from Marias.
03:07There's a chopping low kick to the lead leg of Nakuta by Marias.
03:13Yeah, Marias really showing his experience advantage, fighting the smart fight, using a lot of long-range attacks, attacking that
03:20lead leg of Nakuta.
03:22Five-inch reach advantage for Marias, although Nakuta just landed it inside.
03:26The kick and the one-two by Nakuta for the counter right by Marias.
03:30Yeah, Marias is going to have to watch out for that overhand right and the hook of Nakuta as he
03:35enters.
03:36High kick blocked by Nakuta, the wing block.
03:41We all remember what happened in San Jose, the big fight between Kung Lee and Frank Shamrock when Shamrock blocked
03:47a kick like that from Kung Lee, breaking his arm.
03:50But Nakuta now sprawling and against the fence, stymieing the takedown effort of Marias.
03:56And he does so with that underhook.
03:58Great job by Nakuta.
04:00And on the exit by Nakuta.
04:05Very composed, very poised, already showing a lot of confidence in his pressure.
04:12The 30-year-old Nakuta who's been waiting to put on a show on the biggest of stages for a
04:17long time.
04:18This is the opportunity.
04:19You know, Marias makes it work for him, but I do not like those arms that are a little bit
04:23too low.
04:24Nakuta is too fast and too powerful to have those hands that low.
04:29Marias brings the championship pedigree.
04:35Oh, a flying knee by Marias, counter right by Nakuta.
04:39Nakuta switches, dances, and fires a right hand.
04:42Yeah, Marias is going to look to try to utilize that knee to counter a potential level change from Nakuta.
04:47Very dangerous with those knees and that height.
04:50And telegraphed that one, and the right hand landed for Nakuta as Marias closes distance again.
04:56Now, it's Nakuta putting all the weight on against Marias.
05:02Marias tries to bring it to the ground.
05:06Yeah, it's a battle of underhooks.
05:07You see that left underhook there for Nakuta trying to get a tighter connection around the torso of Marias.
05:14Marias says that every time he steps into the cage, he carries more than just a fight plan.
05:18He carries his story, his belief system, and proof that discipline and hard work can transform plans into purpose.
05:26The 38-year-old looking for a huge win here tonight against the short-notice replacement, Pumi Nakuta,
05:35who stays ready so he doesn't have to get ready.
05:43Marias is doing a good job of moving his head, keeping Nakuta on the outside.
05:49Southpaw stands now by Nakuta.
05:51Oh, right hand drops!
05:54Marias Mora caught him off balance, but Nakuta looking for the guillotine choke.
05:58Yep, there's that overhand right that I was concerned with.
06:00Nakuta looking for that high elbow guillotine, not able to get it.
06:03Marias with some brilliant defense there.
06:05The sprawl, north-south position, and they're back on their feet.
06:10Nakuta with two submissions, a rear naked choke, and a key lock was threatening with the guillotine.
06:15Marias has never been submitted.
06:19Oh, oh, that hurt!
06:21Rattling Marias!
06:22Marias with the leather change and ground hammer fist from Nakuta!
06:27Oh!
06:29Nakuta looking to stop Marias with his strikes!
06:32Marias on his back!
06:34Oh, look at this.
06:36Nakuta now maybe looking for an arm triangle.
06:38We'll see how clear-headed Marias is.
06:41Has done a good job defensively, but boy, did he catch all that shin!
06:45Marias has been knocked out twice, including in his last fight against Yuya Wakamatsu.
06:51Last March 2025, ground and pound for Nakuta.
06:55But that's how you make the most of a short-notice opportunity.
06:59100%.
06:59Those are the kind of exchanges that can win you the round, and I believe it did just that
07:03for Pumi Nakuta.
07:28And here's that blitz there, misses with the overhand right.
07:33He was just off balance there.
07:36Caught him moving backwards, so his base wasn't underneath him.
07:39But here's the kick.
07:40That one definitely connected.
07:43Clipped him on the temple.
07:45And then you see Pumi follow it up with a beautiful sprawl there.
07:49Marias did a good job of trying to get to a clinch position, and I think he saved himself
07:54from getting TKO'd there.
07:55Right leg hospital, left K leg cemetery, the mantra of Miracle Krokop, one of the greatest
08:02strikers in MMA history.
08:04And Turbo Nakuta showing he's a proficient striker as well.
08:08And a great accounting of his skills in that first round as Marias immediately goes for
08:15the leg kick to kick off round number two.
08:19And while Nakuta may have missed with the right, he did catch him with the strikes, and Marias
08:23immediately attacking the back.
08:27And there is Marias with the backpack position now with the left hand underneath the armpit
08:33of Nakuta.
08:33Nakuta, good job of hand fighting.
08:35And doing a great job as well of using the cage as almost a second level or second layer
08:41of defense here.
08:42Nakuta's still not totally out of the weeds here.
08:46He needs to circle to his left a little bit more.
08:50Oh, now he's in trouble.
08:51With 11 submissions, including four rear naked choke wins, looking for the RNC right now.
08:59Nakuta has never tasted defeat, but facing adversity now against the veteran former champion,
09:06Adriano Marias.
09:08Marias is a real problem from this rear naked choke position.
09:12Let's see if he can sneak in that forearm underneath the chin of Nakuta.
09:16You have to believe Nakuta did his homework here in preparing for this very situation.
09:21Although he wasn't given much time to do the homework, he had to cram for this test, Kenny.
09:26Yeah, no question about it.
09:29Marias now really trying to open up that chin, trying to chip away with punches.
09:39Nakuta doing a great job of keeping his composure here, trying to keep him up against the cage.
09:45And if he gets broken down and falls to the mat, this is where Marias can really use 100%
09:51effort
09:51to finish this rear naked choke.
09:53Well, we know he is comfortable from any position, very patient.
09:57It's always position before submission.
09:59And he's in a great position here, but Nakuta's also not panicking.
10:04No, he's not.
10:04He's trying to unwind the legs.
10:06And he does!
10:07And he changes the level, looking for the takedown.
10:10What an escape by Nakuta!
10:14Nakuta so well-schooled.
10:17Now, with that body-lock position, let's see if he can move to the back of Marias.
10:21Marias trying to get that overhook in play.
10:24You see that left arm trying to stop Nakuta from going to his back.
10:27Does a great job of achieving it.
10:36We've reached the midway point of the round and the fight.
10:40A bit of a stalemate against the fence, but there are little miniature battles going on here, Kenny.
10:45Yeah, no question about it.
10:46You see that shoulder position from Nakuta trying to drive it into the armpit.
10:50Decides to break off and attacks with the knee to the body.
10:54Jab from Nakuta misses.
10:56The longer reach of Marias works for him.
10:59Head kick.
11:00Counter left hook upstairs by Nakuta.
11:02Nice left hook there from Nakuta.
11:04Calf kick to the lead leg of Marias by Nakuta.
11:07Two minutes left in the round, and Nakuta's looking for a power shot.
11:13There it is, the right hand!
11:16Again, Marias has been stopped twice via knockout, including in his last fight just over a year ago.
11:23A minute 45 left in the second round.
11:25Head kick blocked as jab lands for Marias.
11:29And Nakuta better respect the hands of Marias as well.
11:31That left hand getting a little bit too low for my liking.
11:35Nakuta remains on the hunt.
11:38Marias using lateral movement, trying to find an angle.
11:42Marias has a very unorthodox approach to striking.
11:46It can be very hard to get a rhythm on someone like that.
11:54Nakuta's corner wants him to double up the jab.
11:57Head kick blocked.
11:58Be nice to follow up with one of those right hands.
12:01Yeah, I think Nakuta needs to get to work here to try to steal this round if he can.
12:05Land some big combinations.
12:06All level changed by Marias.
12:07Stopped by Nakuta again.
12:10Lands a strike on the break.
12:13Calf kick by Nakuta.
12:18Southpaw from Marias.
12:19High kick blocked.
12:20Nakuta crashes the space with the left hand.
12:23Sharp jab from Nakuta.
12:26Yeah, Marias not moving his head as much as he did in round one.
12:30Still keeping those hands really low.
12:32He's going to be susceptible to that overhand right yet again.
12:36And the hook.
12:36Oh, spinning back just to Tempai, Nakuta.
12:3830 seconds left in the round.
12:41Right hand connects.
12:42That time it did.
12:43It still was more of an off-balance shot, but it landed.
12:46Yeah, and Nakuta's going to need more of this to try to steal this round.
12:48Marias still up, in my opinion.
12:50Nice left hook from Marias.
12:52And a right hand.
12:53And in exchange here, Nakuta now being bothered by the striking of Marias.
12:58Yeah, a little bit of blood out of the nose of Marias here.
13:03Final seconds of the second stand time.
13:06And just as Nakuta was landing the left, it was a jumping knee from Marias.
13:11That was close.
13:23Relax.
13:25Water in your hand.
13:26Close the round.
13:28I don't know what the half you saw, okay?
13:30I thought you won because you were more damaged and aggressive in the couple last minutes, okay?
13:34This round, we need to do the same thing for me.
13:37A little bit more volume, especially on the body.
13:40No more body kicks for me.
13:44All right, here was the best moment here from Marias, who ended up catching that leg, turned into a single
13:48leg.
13:50Nakuta unable to secure that overhook.
13:52That gave up his back, and Marias, aggressive to try to take that back, was able to secure that second
14:00hook.
14:01Here's Nakuta, parrying that leg, landing a nice left hook.
14:06That was near the end of round two.
14:09Another close round.
14:22On the other side.
14:39Ready.
14:40C'est parti, c'est parti, c'est parti.
15:12C'est parti, c'est parti.

20:32Sous-titrage Société Radio-Canada
21:02But the rear naked choke definitely did.
21:04He was in that choke for a long time, Mauro.
21:07Nakuta, being the warrior that he is, fought to the very end.
21:10Herb Dean prized those arms away.
21:12And you see, he is not moving.
21:14He's belly down.
21:16That is a knockout.
21:17That is a, I think that's going to be a finish.
21:20That's going to be a technical submission, yeah.
21:22Technique met timing, and timing turned cruel.
21:40Here it is, Morais with the rear naked choke.
21:43The arm is trapped.
21:44You see the right arm of Pumi Nakuta is trapped.
21:47That's why he couldn't.
