00:00I was at school when Manchester bids against Sydney to host the Olympic Games,
00:06and I've never forgotten the way that other parts of the country talked about that bid as if it was
00:11somehow to be dismissed or a joke.
00:13And then, of course, we had London 2012, which brought in 15 billion pounds of investment to the UK,
00:19businesses that still have contracts now because of that Games and a whole generation of young people inspired through sport.
00:27It really was an incredible moment where we showed the best of what we can do as a country to
00:32the world.
00:33For all of our sporting success in the north of England, and we've had so much,
00:37we've constantly been told that the Olympics is too big and too ambitious for us to host.
00:43Well, this government is calling time on that. It's our turn and it's our time.
00:48And that's why we're announcing this phase one study to kickstart an Olympic bid that will bring the Olympics
00:56to the north of England for the first time in history.
