00:29Hi, my name is Om Satija, I'm 23 years old, I live in Australia, I'm from Indian background, I have
00:36been running from Kandikwai to Kashmir 5,000 kilometers and my motive has been, one was a personal challenge, I
00:42think in life when you try to do something impossible you can really understand who you truly are, secondly I
00:48wanted to do some seva, I wanted to raise awareness for a great cause, when I was 10 years old
00:52I saw leprosy near the Ramchula bridge and I didn't know what it was for the first time and then
00:57when I was 22 and this idea came to me,
00:59to run across India, I wanted to serve these children of these leprosy patients, give them a brighter future and
01:06they face a lot of stigma so we're supporting a wonderful NGO with Ayan Kolkata, they help provide these children
01:12a pathway out of the colonies through education and support them from age 5 all the way to college, so
01:18I'm very grateful to be doing this and I think third has been to inspire the youth, I've come across
01:2512 states all across India, seeing all the children from the villages,
01:29to the cities and I think when they see a person living in action, doing something, they can believe in
01:36themselves through that in life, they can also achieve something great too and give back to society, so that is
01:41my message and I hope that I've made a positive impact for Indians all over the country.
01:45What challenges do you have here sir?
01:48What's that challenge, there's been a lot of challenges, I think one just 50 kilometers every day is very tough,
01:55your body every day waking up very sore, tired, stiff, painful, a lot of gut issues, we're hitting sometimes at
02:03Dhabas, your pit is not adjusted and the heat through Bihar, UP, Bengal, Delhi, 42 degrees every day, running in
02:12this heat 8 hours has been very difficult and
02:15now even the mountains in Kashmir, but through these challenges you find a lot of strength and that's what I
02:22believe in life, when you do difficult things you find your true self, so there have been challenges every day
02:27of the run, I even fell over earlier and cut myself but such is life and we keep moving.
02:33You've met many people during this school run, what is the stigma related to this leprosy disease?
02:38So I think the leprosy stigma is curable but a lot of people aren't aware and they fear a lot,
02:45they have a lot of fear towards people with leprosy, but even for people, a lot of people will never
02:50meet people with leprosy, these leprosy patients, but they will still have fear for other people.
02:55So the message through is not just for leprosy, leprosy is the main message, but for all people around India
03:01and the world that have love and compassion for others, sometimes when you don't know something you are more scared
03:07and you are more frightened and you treat them differently, you treat other people differently.
03:11But when you actually understand people, you realize we are all the same, we are all just human beings, we
03:16are all one and together and so my, you know, to raise the stigma of leprosy, you need to have
03:22love and compassion and you need to show people empathy, so that's my message and I think throughout India I
03:27have experienced so much love, so much hospitality and I think that message needs to keep spreading towards everyone else.
03:34Could you please tell us how many kilometres you have travelled and where have you started this and how much
03:39daily you are running?
03:40So obviously I started from Kalani Kumari and I took the east coast towards Calcutta and now towards Srinagar. I
03:45have covered 4900 kilometres, the entire journey is 5000, so we are going to be finishing in Lal Chalk.
03:52And daily I have been doing around 50, some days 55, my best has been 70 and other days we
04:00have had events in the city so we might have taken the day off, but on average 50 to 55.
04:05What will your message for those people who are residing in India and across the country?
04:08So my message to all people in India is I think I call this the One India Run because I
04:14believe that through running, through movement and through this campaign we could bring India together.
04:20I have had hundreds of people run with me in the big cities, a lot of people on the highways
04:25and I think my message is find reasons why you can unite and not divide.
04:31I think find reasons to work together, love and compassion, you know you are more similar than you think.
04:37So that's my message and I think to the youth as well believe in yourself and make some positive change
04:42for the country.
04:42Yes, your message and the answer.
