00:09Can you give your thoughts on how the final unfolded and you had a few penalty claims,
00:15which one stands out in your mind that you're disappointed didn't go in your favour?
00:21I thought it was an evenly matched game, both teams had moments of control, both teams had
00:26momentum at different times, two really good sides, got a lot of respect for Manchester
00:31City and what they've done over the last period of success.
00:36So congratulations to them first, disappointing result but a very evenly matched game.
00:42In terms of the penalty incidents, I thought they're tough calls but for me the Jarrell
00:46Hato and Kusunov collision in the box is a penalty, Jarrell gets in front and it's a collision
00:52in the back, if that's anywhere else on the pitch it's a foul, very similar to last week
00:56at Liverpool with Jao Pedro and Fringpong, I said the same, I thought that was a penalty
00:59as well so sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't.
01:07In terms of the goal itself, a brilliant finish but is there more you could have done to prevent
01:12it?
01:13Not for me, no, not personally for me, I think we hold the line really well, Semenyo goes
01:18into an offside position, the ball is meant for him, Bernardo is trying to slide Semenyo
01:22in, Haaland reads it, gets onto the ball, we make him play an awkward right foot cross
01:28under pressure.
01:30Semenyo finishes from outside the line of the front post under pressure so for me it's a
01:34one in a hundred goal, it's a really low XG goal so for me no, there's not much more
01:37we could defend in that moment better.
01:38Can I just ask you what it was like for you personally to lead the side out at Chelsea
01:42today considering your own journey as a coach?
01:46The same as any other game, we prepared the same, I wasn't thinking about the occasion
01:51or that there's enough to think about with Pep Guardiola's Manchester City so that was
01:56my focus, I'm just disappointed that for me the lads didn't get what they deserve today
02:01and sometimes football can be cruel.
02:03Thanks James.
02:04Simon?
02:05Hi Callum, commiserations, is there any consolation that Chelsea can take from the manner of the
02:10performance and perhaps a reminder that there are talented players in this squad despite
02:16how it's gone over the last few months?
02:20Yeah, it's hard at this moment in time to think like that because of the recent form and losing
02:25the cup final but I felt we went toe to toe, we were one of the best teams in the
02:29world and
02:30I thought there was very little between the sides and in those sort of games against two
02:34really good sides when you have momentum, I thought we had momentum at the end of the
02:37first half, I thought we had momentum at the start of the second half, if you get that
02:41moment of quality and you get yourself in front it makes the game very different and we
02:48know what this team is capable of, they need to produce that on a more consistent basis and
02:53they've shown that this year that when they're at their best they're a very difficult side
02:57to play against.
02:58And I appreciate you don't want to talk too much about the Knicks coach but if they are
03:03watching they're obviously going to like what they perhaps saw from some of the players
03:06on the pitch today.
03:08Yeah, it's a really talented group, lots of quality in that group, the fight and heart
03:13has been questioned at times.
03:34What would it mean if Chelsea didn't get into Europe next season, what would be the implications
03:38for the club?
03:40You're asking an interim coach what the implications of the club are going to be, I'm not privy
03:45to that information, my job is to prepare the team for games and training which I'll be
03:51doing on Tuesday for Spurs which is a massive game for this club.
03:56If there's no more questions we'll end it there.
03:58Thanks guys.
