Vic Darchinyan defends his IBF Flyweight Title against Nonito Donaire on Showtime Boxing.
Transcript
00:00...by a sports arena built in the late 90s.
00:03They call this Harbor Yard, where tonight, America's Fight Night,
00:06is pleased to present a world championship doubleheader.
00:10In Bridgeport's first world title fight since 1927,
00:14we anticipate a lively crowd for the first boxing event ever
00:17here at the arena at Harbor Yard,
00:19home to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers,
00:22an affiliate of hockey's New York Islanders.
00:24Tonight, it's home to Showtime Championship Boxing.
00:27It's Fight Night in Bridgeport.
00:30In our main event, tremendous Travis Sims comes home
00:33to defend his WBA super waterweight crown
00:36as the Norwalk native takes on number one contender,
00:39Joe Ashima, seen in a battle of undefeated.
00:42And for openers, unbeaten knockout specialist,
00:44Victor Chinian puts his IBF flyweight belt on the line
00:47against Nonito Donair.
00:52Hello again, everybody.
00:53Steve Albert ringside from Bridgeport, Connecticut.
00:56Well, tonight, we feature two world title fights
00:58in four fighters with only one loss among them,
01:01a combined record of 98-1 with 69 knockouts.
01:05But the spotlight falls on a pair of undefeated world champions
01:08with similar intentions.
01:10Both Travis Sims and Victor Chinian plan to show us
01:12why they're the most avoided fighters in their respective divisions,
01:16while convincing us they're also the best fighters in their divisions.
01:20Will it all add up to fistic fireworks as the promotional billing exclaims?
01:25Stay tuned.
01:26And with that, let me bring on my ringside partner, Al Bursin.
01:29And Al, what does the future hold for Sims and Darchinian?
01:33Well, they would like it to hold career-defining fights
01:35and money-making ones as well.
01:37You know, they blame the vagaries of boxing, commerce, and politics
01:40for that not happening.
01:42But tonight, if they're not careful,
01:44they could have fights that redefine their careers, Steve,
01:47in a way that they wouldn't like.
01:48Because let me tell you, they're both facing
01:50highly motivated and highly talented opponents.
01:53Well, a slip-up tonight would be disastrous
01:56as both undefeated world champions continue their quest
01:59for big name, big money fights.
02:04And with that, we invite you to send your predictions
02:06on the Sims-Alcine fight to us here at Showtime.
02:08If you think the fight will end in a knockout,
02:11text the letter K to SHOTV.
02:14Or, if you think the fight will go to a decision,
02:16text the letter D to SHOTV.
02:19Standard text messaging rates apply.
02:25Coming up from Bridgeport, our co-feature,
02:28he's brash, charismatic, and explosive.
02:30Vic Darchinian set for his seventh defense
02:32of the IVF flyweight title
02:34as he meets once-beaten Nonito Donair.
02:37And what else is new as Darchinian has predicted a knockout?
02:44Well, Al, Darchinian says he wants to unify
02:46the flyweight division, but could this be
02:48the last time we see him fighting in this weight class?
02:51You know, it's been very hard for him
02:53to get a unification match with flyweight champions,
02:56that's for sure.
02:56But I don't think it's going to be quite as hard
02:58if he moves up to 115, the super flyweight division.
03:02There are a number of champions there
03:03that I think might be interested in taking the bait.
03:05For instance, newly crowned WBC champ,
03:08Christian Meharas, is one of them.
03:10He might be very interested.
03:11And if Darchinian is wondering
03:13what it would be like to face Meharas,
03:16well, Vic Darchinian meet Nonito Donair.
03:19Even though Donair is a righty
03:20and Meharas is a lefty,
03:21they have very similar styles.
03:23And another similarity is that Donair is by trade
03:26a super flyweight moving down for this fight.
03:28This 24-year-old Donair has the style and skill
03:32to severely test Darchinian,
03:34but can he do it?
03:38If he is to succeed, Donair cannot stand in front of Darchinian.
03:43Angles are important.
03:45Darchinian squares up and invites the right hand.
03:47Donair has a good one.
03:49When Darchinian attacks, as he will,
03:52Donair must land counter punches.
03:54Miss Darchinian punches have to be countered.
03:56Here a short jab gives Donair a chance
04:00to land the counter right hand.
04:03And that's exactly what he does.
04:05For Donair to be successful tonight,
04:07this must happen.
04:15So far, Darchinian has overcome
04:17his defensive lapses,
04:19but tonight, he'll need to pay attention to defense.
04:21He takes fighters out of fights with his physicality.
04:25That sometimes means heads and elbows.
04:27This is intimidating.
04:28His best weapon is the left hand,
04:31and he is great at repeating this punch
04:33until it gets the job done.
04:35The jab sets up a Darchinian left hand.
04:39This combination is often repeated in his attack,
04:45but he doesn't stop there.
04:48He can quickly reload and use a second left hand.
04:52That sets him apart.
04:53It's a great plus for him.
05:10And Nonito Donair on his biggest stage moments
05:13from his toughest test fighting for his first world title.
05:17Nonito's older brother Glenn manhandled by Darchinian.
05:20Last October, Glenn suffered a broken jaw in the process,
05:23and Nonito said,
05:25he's not out for revenge.
05:27He just wants to beat Darchinian up
05:29because he feels he's an arrogant bully.
05:33Darchinian still miffed.
05:34He didn't get the knockout
05:35because it was ruled from an elbow, not a punch,
05:37and further infuriated
05:39when Nonito agreed with the ruling.
05:42Al Donair quite different
05:44from Darchinian's last opponent,
05:46the smaller Victor Burgos.
05:48Donair comes down in weight.
05:49Big factor?
05:50Yeah, it really is.
05:52You know, Donair's rated in the top 10
05:53by three of the organizations at 115,
05:57and he's coming down to 112 to try and win a title.
06:00Making weight, he said, is no problem.
06:02And when we saw him yesterday,
06:03he didn't look gone.
06:05He looked good.
06:05But we should point out
06:06it's the first time he's fought at 112 since 2002.
06:11We'll see if it has an impact.
06:13We mentioned his brother, Glenn Donair.
06:16There he is, getting the hug,
06:19hoping his younger brother doesn't meet the same fate
06:22as he did versus Vic Darchinian.
06:25Nonito hoping tonight to settle the score
06:27once and for all with Vic Darchinian.
06:32The speedy Donair, known as Flash,
06:34born in the Philippines,
06:35came to California at age 10.
06:37Very impressive amateur career.
06:402000 Olympic Trials Finals.
06:42His only pro loss, his second fight.
06:4416 straight wins since.
07:01Here he is, full of swagger,
07:03always entertaining.
07:05Aussie, Armenian, Vic Darchinian,
07:07the little lefty dynamo with uncanny power.
07:10One of the hardest hitters in any weight class.
07:12Wants a knockout every fight,
07:14but he comes off the grim scenario
07:16in which he punished the aforementioned
07:18former junior flyweight champion,
07:20Victor Burgos,
07:21who survived brain surgery and a coma.
07:24It was touch and go,
07:25but now he's out of the hospital
07:27in his hometown of Tijuana,
07:29walking and talking on his own.
07:30And happy to report,
07:32the prognosis is improving.
07:34Now, Al, people may wonder,
07:36is the memory of that near-tragic experience
07:39lingering in Darchinian's mind?
07:41Well, he was very clear
07:43how he felt going into this fight.
07:47I'm going to do the same.
07:48I'm going to go for a knockout.
07:50I'm going to punish my opponent.
07:51I just hope nothing bad is going to happen.
07:53He's going to walk out by his legs from the ring,
07:55but I'm going to destroy him.
07:57I'm going to smash him.
08:00Well, for Darchinian,
08:02it would be a problem, certainly,
08:04if he was impacted.
08:05He appears to be somewhat unfazed
08:07and ready to get back to business.
08:09We'll see, though.
08:10Other fighters have been affected
08:11by those situations.
08:13That said,
08:14he did call the incident
08:15one of the hardest nights of his career,
08:18and he phoned the United States
08:20from Australia every day
08:21to find out how Burgos was doing,
08:24so you know it impacted on Victor Darchinian.
08:31Let's check the numbers right now
08:33as we will go to the tail of the tape.
08:35Donair has the physical advantages,
08:37just 24, younger by seven years,
08:40a shade taller than Darchinian,
08:41but he has the reach by three and a half inches,
08:45and at yesterday's weigh-in,
08:47Darchinian 112, Donair just under the limit.
08:50And the notable unified rules
08:52for this world title fight,
08:53no standing eight count,
08:54no three knockdown rule.
08:55A fighter cannot be saved by the bell in any round.
08:59If an accidental headbutt causes a fight
09:01to end within four rounds,
09:02it's a no decision.
09:03After four rounds,
09:04they go to the scorecards,
09:05and if a punch causes a cut
09:07and the injured fighter can't continue,
09:09he loses by TKO.
09:13So here at the arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Connecticut,
09:17getting ready for Victor Darchinian versus Nonito Donair
09:21for the IBF Flyweight Championship.

11:51Tonight,
11:51he is making the seventh defense of his title.
11:54Here is the undefeated IBF,
11:57and IBO flyweight champion of the world,
12:00known as the Raging Bull.
12:03Introducing,
12:03Vic D'Arginian.
12:11Once again,
12:12a referee in charge,
12:13Eddie Claudio now to give instructions,
12:1412 rounds of championship boxing scheduled.
12:19I don't want,
12:20I don't got to wait for the cue.
12:22Bring him on.
12:22All right.
12:23One second.
12:24One second.
12:25Let's go.
12:37Let's go.
12:38Let's go.
12:38Let's get rolling.
12:39Let's get rolling.
12:40Let's go, baby.
12:42Over here.
12:43Good.
12:43Bonito.
12:45Okay, gentlemen,
12:46you receive your instructions
12:47in the dressing room.
12:48The IBF and IBO flyweight championship
12:50is on the line.
12:51I expect a good,
12:52clean fight.
12:54Protect yourself at all times,
12:55and both of all,
12:56respect my commands at all times.
12:58Let's touch him up.
12:59Let's get popping.
13:02Let's get popping,
13:03says Eddie Claudio of Brooklyn.
13:05Vic D'Arginian,
13:06one of the most unique
13:07and unorthodox fighters in the world,
13:09has never been dropped
13:10or hurt
13:11or even remotely threatened in the ring.
13:13Almost every punch is meant to end the fight
13:15or at least break your spirit,
13:17his left dynamite.
13:19But in meeting with Nonito Donair yesterday,
13:22he came across as very confident,
13:24loose and incredibly calm,
13:26a guy who seemed like
13:27he already had the test questions in advance.
13:31We'll soon find out, Al.
13:32I like that explanation of it.
13:35Something, unfortunately, I never had.
13:37You know, no,
13:38I find that hard to believe.
13:39He is a taller fighter
13:41with a bigger reach,
13:42and those are the things
13:43that you always wonder,
13:45can a D'Arginian,
13:46who's a fighter that comes forward,
13:47deal with.
13:48Donair's attacking him
13:49much more than I expected
13:50right at the beginning.
13:51D'Arginian,
13:51not a particularly fast starter in general.
13:54It'll be interesting to see
13:55if he gets right to it here.
13:57He did start unusually fast
13:59against Nonito's brother, Glenn,
14:00who incidentally told the younger Nonito
14:03that D'Arginian does not hit hard,
14:05and you can see the punches coming.
14:08D'Arginian's response,
14:09he was toying with Glenn that night,
14:11he didn't punch as hard
14:12as he usually does.
14:13Big left uppercut attack there
14:15by Donair that bad.
14:16Two things have happened.
14:17The right hand is landing for Donair,
14:19but the left is landing by D'Arginian,
14:21but I think Nonito Donair
14:22has made Vic D'Arginian
14:25think about his power already.
14:27And a wild swing and a miss
14:29with the left by D'Arginian.
14:31The free-swinging D'Arginian
14:33is being tested right out of the gate here
14:36by the younger Nonito Donair
14:38having a very good start to the fight.
14:41Well, you mentioned it.
14:43You know, you said
14:44Vic D'Arginian's gone through
14:45an undefeated career barely tested.
14:48I've got to be honest,
14:50in the first half of round one,
14:51he's been hit more than we've seen
14:53in all the fights,
14:54and he's getting whacked by Donair.
14:55He just got hit.
14:56That was a shove.
14:57He just got hit by a left hand
14:58by Nonito Donair.
15:04Donair comes out blazing here
15:05midway through the first round.
15:08Now, the danger in all this is
15:09Donair better not get too brave.
15:11His mission is to be a boxer puncher,
15:14even though a powerful one.
15:16Now, D'Arginian trying to push Donair back.
15:19Donair has skills, no question.
15:21Straight right hand to the chest.
15:22He's versatile.
15:23He's patient, calm,
15:24and lightning fast,
15:26and he can handle pressure.
15:27He's got a lot of amateur experience.
15:30Well, in the keys to victory,
15:33one of the ones was land the right hand.
15:35Donair has done it repeatedly
15:36to both the body and the head
15:38here in round one.
15:39Donair really up on his toes,
15:41moving to his left,
15:42which is the correct thing to do,
15:44and another wild swing and a miss
15:46there by D'Arginian.
15:48And if he's not careful,
15:49he's going to be wide open
15:51for a straight right by Donair.
15:58Now, Donair goes to the midsection,
16:00but that was blocked by D'Arginian.
16:02A spin around move there by Donair.
16:05You know,
16:06Vic D'Arginian's probably lost a few rounds
16:08along the way in his pro career,
16:10but I don't think he's ever lost one
16:12the way he's losing this one.
16:16Donair said he's very cognizant
16:18of D'Arginian's uppercut,
16:19but that straight left
16:21can really wear you down.
16:29Boy, Donair kind of buckled there
16:32moments before the bell
16:34to end the first round,
16:36but he seems very fresh.
16:43Let's go down there.
16:44Give me the water.
16:45Watch it.
16:46Yeah, yeah, water.
16:48Okay, Vic.
16:50No, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
16:51Breathe, a little breathe.
16:54Okay, buck down.
16:57Everything good.
16:59Okay, a little bit nervous
17:01because he's shocking.
17:02He came out hard,
17:03which is good, Vic.
17:03Well, we don't know how long
17:04this is all going to last,
17:05but for now,
17:07Nonito Donair is having his way
17:08with Vic D'Arginian.
17:10There's the right hand landing,
17:11and even those wild punches by Donair
17:13don't get countered by D'Arginian.
17:16And it's not really just the right hand, either.
17:20There's a nice counter left hook by Donair.
17:23The trick for Donair was to counter well
17:24as D'Arginian came in,
17:25and for the most part,
17:26he has done it.
17:29Already after round one,
17:31the plot is thickening a bit.
17:32Excellent opening round for the challenger.
17:35Nonito Donair in the red and white,
17:3817-1 with 10 knockouts.
17:40The champion, D'Arginian,
17:41and the black trucks.
17:43Donair, a huge underdog,
17:46yet he feels D'Arginian has built his record
17:48on washed-up fighters and guys moving up in weight.
17:51Well, at least tonight,
17:53D'Arginian in there with someone
17:54who's fought mostly at flyweight
17:56and super flyweight.
17:58But remember, D'Arginian regularly spars
18:01with guys much bigger than him.
18:02D'Arginian, 28-0 with 22 knockout.
18:05Now, D'Arginian told us
18:06he wanted to use his right hand
18:08a lot more in this fight.
18:09He's known primarily as a left-handed puncher.
18:11So let's see if he tries to throw
18:13the right hook in the right upper
18:14and cut a little more against Donair.
18:15And the reason for that,
18:16because he knows that Donair
18:18is going to be circling to his left
18:19to try to get away from his power,
18:22the left hand.
18:23So he'll try to surprise him at the right.
18:25There it is, right there on cue.
18:27You know what I'm surprised at?
18:28And it's a good weapon.
18:30Oh, left hand by Donair to the head.
18:32He is landing the jab.
18:33Donair's also landing his left hook pretty well.
18:35Of course, that's a good weapon
18:36against the southpaw.
18:38Donair not known for that punch.
18:39And he's had hand problems with his left.
18:42Broke it in his second fight as a pro
18:43and it's been troubling him sometimes
18:45in fights since.
18:47Oh, D'Arginian got nailed
18:48and then he came back.
18:49Here's a right hand,
18:51a miss by Donair with the left hand.
18:53And it is really heating up here in round two.
18:56No, Nito Donair is making this an interesting fight.
18:58But boy, he could make it too interesting for himself
19:01because there are times when he is
19:02standing in harm's way
19:03of those D'Arginian big punches.
19:05Donair has to be extremely focused
19:08against the awkward herky-jerky moves
19:11of Vic D'Arginian.
19:14A lunging left there by D'Arginian.
19:16That was a seminal moment in this fight.
19:18A big left hand by D'Arginian
19:19and Donair counters him with the left hook.
19:21This is really turning into an interesting fight
19:24here in round two.
19:25Some pretty good give and take.
19:28Good two-way action here
19:29in the early going
19:30for the IBF flyweight crown.
19:36Well, you know,
19:38the interesting thing about this is
19:39it's almost as if D'Arginian
19:41has stepped up in weight
19:43because Donair is, by trade,
19:45a 115-pounder.
19:46And so we're getting a clue
19:48of how things would go for him
19:49in the 115-pound division.
19:51D'Arginian missing again
19:52with a straight left there.
19:54And D'Arginian's landed
19:55some more good straight left hands
19:57in this round.
19:57He's had a better second round.
19:59I don't know if he's winning it,
20:00but it's been better.
20:00Well, he's usually a slow starter.
20:05I mean, even in fights
20:06in which he has been
20:07highly combustible later on.
20:16Kind of pushed on air back
20:17with heavy left slayer
20:18as D'Arginian.
20:19But Donair standing his ground
20:21looking tough.
20:23Final seconds of round two.
20:25what is developing
20:27into an interesting affair.
20:32Well, as we mentioned earlier
20:34back in October here on Showtime,
20:36Victor D'Arginian
20:37had his way
20:38with Nonito Donair's
20:39older brother, Glenn.
20:41Tough outing for Glenn Donair.
20:43Down early in the fight.
20:44Punished throughout
20:45until the sixth round
20:47when the fight was stopped
20:48because of a broken jaw.
20:50It ended up being
20:50a technical win
20:52for Vic D'Arginian.
20:54Tough night
20:54for Glenn Donair.
21:01And Glenn Donair
21:04with the broken jaw.
21:05There he is now,
21:06jaw healed,
21:07a very interested spectator
21:08on hand to support
21:09his kid brother.
21:11Nonito says,
21:11hey, it's better
21:12to have Glenn in the seats
21:14with everybody else,
21:15not in the corner
21:15because he just gets
21:16too nervous and hyper.
21:19And that's their dad
21:20who, of course,
21:21is the trainer
21:21of these two young men.
21:23And where's Bob?
21:24Well,
21:24Imelda Donair is at home
21:26in California
21:26watching on TV
21:27and according to Nonito,
21:29praying.
21:33Well,
21:34it must be working
21:35to this point
21:36because young Nonito
21:38faring pretty well
21:39as we enter round three.
21:40And, you know,
21:41round two,
21:42I have to say,
21:43I might have put it
21:43in D'Arginian's column
21:45because of his
21:45good second half
21:47of the round.
21:47He did come back
21:48very well
21:49and not bodywork
21:50by Donair.
21:54D'Arginian's finding
21:55the range
21:55with the straight left
21:57but the bodywork
21:58by Donair
21:59in this round
21:59has been impressive.
22:02You can see
22:03the difference
22:04in height and reach
22:05favoring
22:06the young challenger,
22:07Donair.
22:09D'Arginian certainly
22:11has his vulnerabilities
22:12as you can see,
22:13looping his punches
22:14as Al pointed out earlier
22:16in the defensive lapses.
22:18But his ultra
22:18unconventional style
22:20and his
22:21incredible power
22:22usually bail him out.
22:24And when he straightens
22:26out those lefts,
22:27the power is compounded
22:28like just now.
22:35D'Arginian going to the right.
22:39That was a counter left
22:41took a moment ago
22:41by Donair.
22:42Every time
22:43Vic D'Arginian
22:43kind of rushes in,
22:44he does get countered
22:45by Donair.
22:46And that's an issue
22:47for him.
22:49Donair has more
22:50well-rounded skills
22:51than D'Arginian.
22:52D'Arginian usually
22:53just looks for that
22:54one punch to end it.
22:55He's kind of
22:56undisciplined
22:57but it seems to work
22:58for him.
22:58Well, you know,
22:59Vic D'Arginian
22:59changes fighters
23:00when they come in the ring
23:01and he's right.
23:02Once they've felt
23:03his power
23:03for the most part,
23:04Steve,
23:05they change.
23:06They can't use
23:06their skills.
23:07That hasn't happened yet
23:08but there's a good
23:09left hand
23:10by D'Arginian.
23:11A lot of times
23:12it's difficult
23:13to stay outside.
23:14Box move,
23:14counter
23:16against Donair.
23:17He has to sort of
23:17get in his chest.
23:19Push him back,
23:20make it messy,
23:21hook to the body.
23:22But that's easier
23:23said than done
23:23because if you get inside
23:25and you feel his sting,
23:26it's very discouraging.
23:28Now, to Donair's credit,
23:30he has fought this whole fight
23:31for the most part
23:32at long range.
23:33Used his jab
23:33and stayed there.
23:34And Vic has managed
23:35to get the straight
23:36left hand in
23:37from time to time
23:38but I know not as much
23:39as he would want.
23:40So far,
23:40he hasn't hurt Donair
23:41with that punch.
23:45Donair being
23:47extremely calm
23:48and patient here.
23:51Waiting for his moments.
23:53The other thing
23:53Donair did a moment ago
23:54was he fainted
23:55D'Arginian
23:56and you saw D'Arginian react.
23:57Big straight left hand
23:59right on the button
24:00by Vic D'Arginia.
24:01That nailed Donair.
24:06Oh, there's a good left hand
24:08that staggered D'Arginian.
24:09Remember,
24:09he's never been hurt
24:10or dropped in his career.
24:14Donair
24:15sensing the moment.
24:20D'Arginian battles back.
24:22Donair marching forward.
24:25Pacing,
24:26it's another hard left hand
24:27to the chin
24:28by Donair.
24:30Ironic
24:30that a left hook
24:31has been the big weapon
24:32for Donair.
24:33Surprising.
24:34What a huge finish
24:36to round three
24:37for the challenger.
24:38Nonito Donair.
24:39A rocky
24:41scenario for this man.
24:42D'Arginian.
24:44Hello, Val.
24:45Yeah, of course we lost round.
24:46Hey, his eye, his eye.
24:48Legs out.
24:49Here, Vic.
24:51It's nothing, Vic.
24:53No panic.
24:53Relax, no panic.
24:54Don't worry about this.
24:55Relax.
24:55Listen to me.
24:56Don't worry about the rounds now.
24:57Listen, Vic.
24:58We are letting him do
24:59all the work from the middle.
25:00You're just standing there
25:01and your right leg
25:02is not on the outside.
25:03He's always catching us
25:04with right hand, Vic.
25:05You gave him a couple
25:06of good punches.
25:07Vic, it's all right, brother.
25:09It's all good.
25:10Well, D'Arginian
25:11was able to land
25:12a good straight left-handed
25:13gunstone there.
25:14Now, those are the kind
25:14of punches that are
25:15supposed to make fighters
25:17not come back at you.
25:18But there's a left hook
25:19by Donair.
25:19And that was
25:21a portent of things
25:22to come
25:22because there's a good
25:23counter left hook
25:24by Donair
25:25that hurt D'Arginian
25:27and changed that round.
25:28And there would be
25:29other left hooks
25:30to follow
25:30that would also
25:32hurt D'Arginian
25:33and big cut
25:34around the right eye
25:35of D'Arginian.
25:36We'll see if that
25:37enters in as a factor.
25:39So things really
25:40getting intriguing here.
25:41This is the first time
25:42we've seen Vic D'Arginian
25:43in any kind of trouble.
25:45It might be the first time
25:46he's been in trouble
25:47his entire career.
25:49And we'll see how he responds
25:50in this situation.
25:53Round four,
25:53scheduled for 12.
25:54IBF flyweight title.
25:55D'Arginian's belt
25:56on the line.
25:57D'Arginian's
25:58undefeated record
26:00at stake as well.
26:03You know,
26:04D'Arginian's dad
26:04is here to see his fight
26:06only the second time
26:07he's seen his son
26:08fight as a pro.
26:09He's got to be
26:09a little nervous
26:10at this point.
26:11Tense moments
26:12for Ruben D'Arginian.
26:13The first trip
26:15to the United States.
26:17Owned a gas station
26:19in Armenia
26:19and he and Vic
26:20have a great relationship
26:22and right now
26:22he's got to be
26:23concerned for his son.
26:27A lot of concern
26:28in the D'Arginian corner
26:29as well.
26:30Led by trainer
26:31Billy Hussein
26:32who's 2-0 with D'Arginian
26:33who's taking over
26:34from former world champion
26:36Jeff Fenwick.
26:37You know what's
26:37interesting about this
26:38too now?
26:39D'Arginian
26:39kind of feels urgency
26:41to come forward
26:42to make things happen
26:43but when he does
26:44Donair is counterpunching
26:45him so effectively
26:46so it's a tricky
26:47situation for
26:48Vic D'Arginian
26:50right now.
26:52Donair not quite
26:53as aggressive
26:54as he was
26:55towards the end
26:56of the third round.
26:59Just tasted
27:00a straight left hand
27:01from D'Arginian.
27:06D'Arginian's able
27:07to get that left hand
27:08especially when he
27:09uses the jab.
27:10I think Vic D'Arginian
27:11is not used to his jab
27:12enough in this fight
27:13Stephen.
27:13Were he using it more
27:14it would set up
27:15that straight left hand.
27:17You'll notice
27:17both eyes
27:18red and swollen
27:20on D'Arginian
27:21right now.
27:21Missing wildly
27:22with a straight left
27:23is D'Arginian
27:23so the eyes
27:24are becoming
27:25a backer
27:26for D'Arginian
27:26and it's early.
27:32How will Vic D'Arginian
27:34handle adversity?
27:41D'Arginian
27:41for the moment
27:42it appears
27:43as if Donair
27:44is letting him
27:44off the hook.
27:47Now
27:47that right hand
27:49by Donair
27:49was blocked
27:50by the left club
27:51of D'Arginian.
27:53Straight
27:53left hand
27:54by D'Arginian
27:55to the chest
27:55pushes Donair back.
27:58Again
27:59the counter left
28:00hook by Donair.
28:01You know
28:01the problem
28:02with D'Arginian
28:02is when he
28:03rushes in
28:04defense is not
28:05something he
28:05remembers much
28:06and Donair
28:07has been able
28:08to take advantage
28:08of it.
28:09Now there's some
28:10roughhouse tactics
28:10by D'Arginian
28:11we talked about
28:12that before
28:13the fight.
28:13He likes to
28:14rough things up
28:15in there
28:15but you can't
28:15do it Steve
28:16when your opponent
28:17who has a big
28:18height and reach
28:19advantage
28:19stays on the
28:19outside.
28:20Nice counter
28:21left there
28:22by Donair
28:23another counter
28:23there
28:24by D'Arginian
28:25and a spin around
28:26move by Donair
28:27and Eddie Claudio
28:28saying
28:28don't do that.
28:29I kind of thought
28:30it was fun.
28:31Works better
28:32in basketball.
28:33Yeah that's true.
28:34Final seconds
28:35of the round
28:39and D'Arginian
28:40ends it
28:41with a straight
28:41left to the chest.
28:43Let's get it
28:43over to our
28:44Jim Gray.
28:45Jim.
28:46Alright Steve
28:47thank you very much
28:47I'm here with Glenn.
28:49Your brother is
28:49doing very very well
28:51and Nito is
28:51right now.
28:52How much advice
28:52were you able to give
28:53him coming off
28:54your loss to D'Arginian?
28:55The only thing
28:55I told him
28:56is that
28:56you know
28:57look
28:57if only I could
28:58hurt Vic
28:58because Vic
28:59was a lot bigger
28:59than I am
29:00but you know
29:01like a fighter
29:01you know
29:01I never backed
29:02up to anybody
29:03but the thing
29:04is
29:04I hit Vic
29:04with good punches
29:05back then
29:06and I couldn't
29:06hurt him
29:06I could only
29:07hear him go
29:07oh
29:08but I told him
29:09if my brother
29:09if you
29:10bro if you hit him
29:11with those kind
29:11of punches
29:11you'll knock him out.
29:13And did you feel
29:13as though D'Arginian
29:14could not hurt
29:15your brother?
29:16The thing is
29:17we have two
29:17different styles
29:18and the only thing
29:19my brother
29:19needs to do
29:19is you know
29:20just don't get hit
29:21because D'Arginian
29:22is like I said
29:23you know
29:23God forbid
29:24he's a lucky puncher.
29:24You're more nervous
29:26now than when
29:26you fight
29:26aren't you?
29:27Oh no
29:27you know
29:28Totilo
29:28you ask my brother
29:29or whatever
29:29when we go into
29:30the ring
29:31we never
29:31you know
29:31no lie
29:32we never get nervous
29:33but when we
29:34see each other
29:35fight
29:35we get nervous.
29:36Calm down
29:37enjoy the fight
29:38thanks for coming
29:39on with us.
29:39Thank you very much.
29:40Back to you Steve.
29:41Thank you very much
29:42Jim.
29:43Boy he made me nervous.
29:44They are two
29:45different kinds
29:46of fighters.
29:48Glenn Donair
29:49a face first brawler
29:51and Onido
29:51more of a
29:52tactical technician.
29:53And Onido Donair
29:55has some physical
29:55attributes too
29:56that his brother
29:57doesn't have
29:58he's taller
29:58he's got the reach
29:59and he's a little
30:00bit bigger
30:01and so all of that
30:02is troubling
30:03Vic D'Arginian
30:03right now.
30:04D'Arginian
30:05came in thinking
30:05that Nonito
30:07was more of a threat
30:08that he was better
30:09than Glenn
30:10taking nothing
30:10away from Glenn's
30:12skills.
30:13Round 5
30:14underway
30:15scheduled for 12
30:16IBF flyweight

30:18the champion

30:23in the red
30:23and Onido
30:23Donair
30:24nice shot
30:24to the body
30:25there by Donair.
30:26Exactly Stephen
30:27the body work
30:28Donair has done
30:28over the first
30:29four and a half rounds
30:30could pay dividends
30:31later in the fight.
30:32Donair thinks
30:32he'll own the later
30:33rounds
30:34in his last
30:3612 round fight
30:37Donair
30:38against Oscar
30:38Andrade
30:39won the last
30:40three rounds
30:40dramatically
30:41to win that
30:42decision.
30:42He feels
30:43he's going to be
30:43the stronger
30:44fighter
30:44in the later
30:44round.
30:46And our

37:14he has a lot
37:15of power
37:15he was a tough
37:16guy to fight
37:16but like I said
37:18he made himself
37:19so open

37:38you know
37:39not too hard
37:39as I thought
37:40it would be
37:41but
37:42he has a heavy hand
37:43but my brother
37:44told me that
37:44he's not as tough
37:45as people think

37:48I went in there

38:22and boom
38:22there it goes
38:23I just threw that hook
38:24my strongest punch
38:26and that was it
38:27I mean I gotta give it to him
38:28you know
38:28I'm not the type of person
38:29I mean I respect him a lot
38:30I know he was talking

38:49that he was looking past you
38:50and didn't give you
38:51the proper respect
38:51from the way he came in
38:53the fight
38:53I don't think he was
38:54looking past me
38:54because he wanted to knock me out
38:55like I said
38:56I respected him
38:57he had a lot of power
38:57he was a difficult fighter
38:58to fight
38:59but one thing
39:00one thing that really got me
39:02was
39:02was
39:03was that
39:04you know
39:05there's a lot of
39:06Filipinos
39:06and everybody out there
39:07who didn't believe in me
39:08and
39:10and

40:04and then
40:06what leads you to believe
40:07that you would be victorious
40:08next time
40:09because it didn't seem
40:09as though you were able
40:10to handle his power tonight
40:12it's punch
40:13you know
40:13it's happening
