00:01Ten crew members of a dredger were detained following a failed bribery attempt during
00:06a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency operation off Tanjung Tokong, Penang on Sunday night.
00:13The vessel, manned by 17 foreign crew members comprising Indonesians and Chinese nationals,
00:19was intercepted about 1.0 nautical mile northeast of Tanjung Tokong at around 11.30pm.
00:27Inspections revealed that several crew members failed to produce valid identification documents
00:34and were suspected of entering Malaysia through unauthorized entry points, while the vessel
00:40was found carrying sand cargo beyond its permitted capacity and had individuals not listed on
00:47the official crew manifest.
00:49During the inspection, there were attempts to offer bribes to enforcement personnel as well
00:55as attempts to obstruct officers from carrying out their duties.
00:58The detainees were escorted to the Penang MMEA for further investigations.
