00:00Hello and welcome to this induction for the construction phase of our new waste site in
00:05Ettington in Stratford-upon-Avon.
00:09The site manager for this site is Mr David Marsh.
00:12The nearest hospital is Stratford Hospital.
00:15Pause the video now to take note of these phone numbers in case of an emergency.
00:26Regen operate an accident and near miss reporting policy whereby all accidents and near misses
00:31are reported using the poster you see on screen now.
00:35You will find these posters on the site information boards.
00:38You simply scan the QR code and fill in the form with as much detail as possible.
00:44This form is directed to the health and safety team and the site manager who will investigate
00:48the incident.
00:49If you are unable to do this you must inform the site manager at the soonest opportunity.
00:56We operate a zero tolerance policy towards employees, contractors or anyone else being
01:01under the influence of alcohol or drugs whilst on any of our sites.
01:05Any signs of substance use will be challenged and you may be permanently removed from site.
01:13The minimum PPE required on site are safety boots, high visibility clothing and a hard hat.
01:20Other tasks may require further PPE.
01:23Repeated breaches of the PPE site rules may result in you being removed from site.
01:28PPE is the last line of defence to avoid an accident and therefore should always be worn for your
01:33own safety.
01:35I am going to take you through the site map and point out the significant areas for you.
01:40These include the entrance and exit of the site where the fire muster point is, first aid
01:46and first aiders and the canteen and welfare facilities.
01:49I will then discuss the safety aspects of the site.
01:52You will then be asked to complete the rest of the form and sign your agreement to adhere
01:56to the safety requirements.
01:59Failure to adhere to the safety requirements may result in you being removed from site.
02:04Please pay attention to the following slides.
02:07The site lays north of Ettington on the A429 road.
02:13As you turn into the site, there is a two-way road leading to the main gates, as seen in
02:18this
02:18image.
02:19In the case of a fire, this is the muster point.
02:24Fire and first aid.
02:25In order to avoid a fire on site, there will be no smoking on site except in the designated
02:31smoking area which is by the main gates.
02:34All flammable chemicals should be stored securely and segregated from ignition sources.
02:40The correct preparation before any hot works with fire extinguishers on standby.
02:44Good housekeeping and clearing of flammable materials will eliminate sources of fuel.
02:51You will find a first aid poster on the information boards which will list all first aiders on
02:56site.
02:57Make yourself familiar with the first aiders when you arrive.
03:00The first aid kits will be found in the main site office which is located in the cabins
03:05to the left of the main gates.
03:08The site cabins, drying room, toilet block and welfare facilities are found on the left
03:13after you go through the main gates to the site.
03:15The car park is on the right.
03:17Be sure to use the pedestrian gates when you are crossing in this area.
03:22Some of you may be seasoned construction site workers and some of you may not.
03:28I am now going to cover some of the main workplace hazards found on site and how they can be
03:32avoided.
03:33Slips, trips and falls.
03:35Construction sites can be messy and disorganised unless we make a conscious effort to carry
03:40out our work in a tidy and controlled way.
03:43Good housekeeping is the best way to avoid any slip, trip or fall incidents.
03:48Be aware of the wires for your equipment and tape them down if you can.
03:52Ensure you store your materials and equipment in an appropriate place and clean down your
03:56work area regularly.
04:00Pedestrian walkways and traffic management.
04:02Site layouts change on a construction site as we progress through the build.
04:06You will be informed by the site managers of significant site layout changes.
04:10However, you should always be aware of the types of plant working on site and use the pedestrian
04:16routes identified.
04:17There will be HGVs, telehandlers, cranes and MOOCs operating on this site.
04:23You should always be aware that these vehicles have blind spots and should keep a five-minute
04:28distance at all times where possible.
04:32Working at height?
04:33Only workers who are trained and competent should be working at a height.
04:37You may be asked for evidence of training if you are using any MOOPs and you are expected
04:42to use a harness and short restraint lanyard at all times while in a MUP.
04:47Ladders should be used correctly.
04:48Maintaining three points of contact at all times and using the correct ladders for the task.
04:54Do not use inappropriate or damaged equipment.
04:57Do not be afraid to approach the site manager if you have any issues or requirements for equipment.
05:03Lifting operations and lifting equipment.
05:06All lifting operations must be properly planned and communicated to everyone working in the
05:10work area and the work area must be cordoned off.
05:14Additionally, you must not enter a cordoned off area if you are not involved in the work
05:18directly.
05:19All complex lifts must have a lift plan and all lifting equipment must have a record of
05:24thorough examination.
05:27Electrical safety.
05:28To avoid any electrical incidents, make sure all equipment is in good working order.
05:33Do not use any equipment that is visually damaged and quarantine or destroy damaged equipment.
05:39Do not overload sockets.
05:40If you are working in a MUP, always be aware of overhead power lines and telephone lines.
05:48We all have a role to play in site safety.
05:50We will do everything we can to maintain a safe working environment, but individuals also
05:55have a responsibility to do all they reasonably can to ensure the safety of themselves and
06:00those around them.
06:03Thank you for listening to this site safety induction.
06:06We want to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe at the end of each working day and
06:11we all have a part to play in that.
06:14If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to speak to a member of staff.
