The TZ's battery-electric system has been completely redesigned and further developed, delivering the quiet, smooth, and extremely responsive performance characteristic of Lexus electric models.

The powertrain is derived from the Lexus RZ and is also used in the new ES premium sedan. In the new TZ, it has been combined with a larger battery and more powerful electric motors on the front and rear e-axles. This gives the model the power appropriate for a premium six-seat SUV.

The Lexus TZ features e-axles on both the front and rear axles. These are compact and lightweight units that integrate the key components of the electric drive system—an electric motor, an inverter, and a reduction gear—into a single, space-saving housing.

The front and rear axle units each have a specific design tailored to their respective installation locations in the vehicle. The flat design of the rear e-axle does not, for example, impair the space in the third row of seats. Furthermore, collision safety was also taken into account during the design process.
