00:01To the victor go the spoils.
00:04Nigel Farage's pro-Brexit Reform UK party became the biggest winner of last week's English local elections,
00:09gaining over 1,400 council seats.
00:12We have absolutely stormed it. These are historic results.
00:17And as they were mostly gained from Labour, all attention turned to its leader.
00:22And I take responsibility. When voters send a message like this, we must reflect and we must respond.
00:32But is his time in number 10 already on the clock?
00:37Despite a massive Westminster majority, last Thursday's local election battering has left Stammer on notice.
00:44And ironically, this majority makes him easier to criticise.
00:48His own party members feel safe breaking ranks because the government is not at immediate risk of falling.
00:55And ousting a Labour leader is much harder than a Tory.
00:58According to the Labour Party rulebook, rivals need 81 MPs to go public, just to trigger a vote.
01:05And while the trade unions and party members stay quiet,
01:09Stammer holds a structural shield that makes him safer than the headlines suggest.
01:13And with Britain's economy hurt post-Brexit, Stammer is pursuing a high-stakes pivot.
01:20At a recent summit in Armenia, he opened talks to join the EU 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine.
01:26And it seems to be a cash-for-play strategy.
01:29The UK helps to pay the interest in exchange for British defence firms accessing EU contracts.
01:35Ultimately, Stammer's future depends on how the next election is framed.
01:39If the conversation stays on the economy and closer ties to the EU,
01:44he's more likely to stay in power because public sentiment on Brexit has soured.
01:48But if the framing shifts to migration, Nigel Farage and Reform UK hold the advantage.
01:54And for now, the English public is left to see whether his grand vision for the country
01:59can survive a stark reality of local politics.
