00:07There's been a bit of renewed conversation around the future of the Fantastic Beasts
00:11series, and a lot of it comes from what Jude Law recently said about the possibility of
00:15a fourth movie.
00:16Even though the franchise has been pretty quiet for a while, he seems surprisingly hopeful
00:21that Fantastic Beasts 4 could still happen someday.
00:25It's not like anything is officially in development right now, but his attitude suggests that
00:29the door isn't completely closed, which is interesting because for a lot of fans, it
00:35already felt like the series had reached its end.
00:37To understand why his comments stand out, it helps to look back at how the franchise started
00:42and where things went off track.
00:44The first film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, came out in 2016 and was generally
00:50well received.
00:51It had that familiar magical feel because it was connected to the wizarding world, but
00:56it also introduced new characters and a different time period, which made it feel fresh.
01:00Because of that, the plan was always to turn it into a five-film saga, which sounded ambitious
01:06but also exciting at the time.
01:09But things didn't exactly go as planned, because the follow-up films didn't land as strongly.
01:14Fantastic Beasts, The Crimes of Grindelwald struggled with reviews, and even though it still
01:19made money, the reaction wasn't great.
01:21Then came Fantastic Beasts, The Secrets of Dumbledore, which improved slightly in terms of reception,
01:28but didn't perform well enough at the box office to keep the momentum going.
01:32Because of that, the idea of continuing the series started to feel uncertain, and eventually
01:37it seemed like the studio quietly stepped away from the remaining films.
01:42That's why Jude Law's perspective feels a bit different, because even though the franchise
01:46has slowed down, he still believes there's more story to tell.
01:49He played a younger version of Albus Dumbledore in the later films, and according to him,
01:55that character's journey isn't finished yet.
01:57His point is simple but compelling.
02:01Dumbledore is such an important figure in the wizarding world, so there are still plenty
02:05of stories that could be explored if the opportunity ever comes up.
02:09He's basically saying he'd be ready to return if he got the call, which shows that at least
02:14from the cast side, there's still some interest.
02:17But even though that optimism sounds nice, it doesn't necessarily mean Fantastic Beasts
02:224 is likely to happen anytime soon.
02:25In fact, when you look at comments from other actors like Eddie Redmayne, who played Newt Scamander,
02:30the outlook seems a lot less hopeful.
02:33He's hinted that audiences have probably seen the last of his character, and that kind of honest
02:38response feels more in line with where the franchise currently stands.
02:42When a series starts losing both critical and commercial support, studios tend to move
02:47on rather than double down.
02:48And the numbers back that up because The Secrets of Dumbledore ended up being the lowest grossing
02:54film in the entire Wizarding World franchise.
02:57Even though it had some positive elements, it didn't generate the kind of excitement that
03:02earlier Harry Potter films did.
03:03So, when you combine that with the mixed reception of the previous installment, it becomes clear
03:09why the studio might be hesitant to continue the story.
03:12It's not just about whether there's more to tell, it's about whether audiences are still
03:17interested enough to justify another big-budget movie.
03:21It seems like Warner Bros. is focusing its energy elsewhere, especially on the upcoming Harry
03:26Potter TV remake.
03:27That project is expected to retell the original story in a more detailed way, sticking closer to
03:33J.K. Rowling's books.
03:35So instead of expanding the Fantastic Beasts storyline, the studio is going back to what
03:40worked best in the first place.
03:42And honestly, that strategy makes sense, because the original story still has a much stronger
03:47connection with audiences.
03:48That doesn't mean Fantastic Beasts didn't have potential, though, because one of its biggest
03:53strengths was the way it could explore parts of the Wizarding World that the main series
03:57only hinted at.
03:59It dealt with darker themes, complex relationships, and historical events that shaped the world
04:04long before Harry's time.
04:06But even though those ideas were interesting, the execution didn't always fully connect with
04:11viewers, which is why the series never quite reached the same level of popularity.
04:16One of the most interesting things about what Fantastic Beasts 4 could have done is how it might
04:21have tied more directly into the main Harry Potter story.
04:24For example, there was a real opportunity to explore the early life of Tom Riddle, who later
04:30becomes Lord Voldemort.
04:32Since the timeline of the Fantastic Beasts films overlaps with his early years, a fourth
04:37movie could have introduced him as a student at Hogwarts, which would have been a huge moment
04:42for fans.
04:43That connection would have made a lot of sense, especially because Dumbledore plays such a big
04:48role in both stories.
04:49Seeing him interact with a young Tom Riddle could have added a whole new layer to his character,
04:55because it would show how he first recognized the darkness within him.
04:58It would also help bridge the gap between the two franchises, making Fantastic Beasts feel
05:04more connected to the story that audiences already know and love.
05:08Another reason this would have worked is because Voldemort's backstory is actually one of the most
05:13fascinating parts of the entire series, even though the movies didn't explore it as much
05:18as the books did.
05:19His connection to the Gaunt family, his complicated origins, and the choices he made as he grew
05:24older all play a huge role in shaping who he becomes.
05:28Including more of that in Fantastic Beasts 4 could have made him an even more compelling
05:33villain because it would show how he evolved into the Dark Lord rather than just presenting
05:38him as one.
05:39At the same time, adding that kind of storyline could have solved one of the biggest issues
05:44with the Fantastic Beasts films, which is that they sometimes felt disconnected from the main
05:50narrative.
05:51Even though they existed in the same world, they didn't always feel essential to the overall
05:55story.
05:56By bringing in a character as important as Voldemort, the series could have created a stronger link,
06:02making everything feel more cohesive.
06:04But even though all of that sounds like a missed opportunity, it also highlights why moving forward
06:09with a fourth film might not be the best decision right now.
06:13If a franchise is already struggling to find its footing, adding more complex storylines might
06:18not be enough to fix the underlying issues.
06:21Sometimes it's better to take a step back and start fresh, which is exactly what the upcoming
06:26TV remake seems to be doing.
06:28So, while Jude Law's comments show that there's still some hope on a personal level, the bigger
06:33picture suggests that Fantastic Beasts 4 is probably a long shot, at least for now.
06:39The interest from the cast is there, and the story possibilities are definitely there too.
06:44But the industry side of things tells a different story.
06:47Studios tend to follow what works, and right now, that means focusing on projects that have
06:52a stronger track record.
06:54So, it's still not impossible that the Wizarding World could return to this storyline in the
06:59future, because these franchises have a way of coming back when people least expect it.
07:04And if that ever happens, there's clearly no shortage of ideas to explore, whether it's
07:10Dumbledore's past, Voldemort's origins, or the larger conflicts that shaped the magical world.
07:15But until then, it looks like fans will have to wait and see what direction the franchise
07:20takes next, even though the possibility of Fantastic Beasts 4 hasn't completely disappeared.
