01:35and the reason why we chased this crazy weird dream
01:40and you could see that kind of happening
01:43from Kevin Feige to our executives
01:46to our producers to everyone who was on set
01:48when we talked to Yaya
01:49the story just tapped into something
01:53that really made the experience extremely fun
01:57to where I don't think any of us gave a rip
02:02where it ended up
02:04the way that we made it was really kind of
02:10I don't know, there were many times when I was on set
02:13with Yaya and Sir Ben or with my DP
02:16and the vibe was just like
02:21screw it, just try it
02:22just try something
02:26it's amazing that we're here
02:28I'm not going to lie, it's awesome
02:29so I don't want to say it was
02:34I'm surprised
02:36but I kind of think we're so wrapped up in this wonderful world
02:40that we weren't thinking about it
02:42What's been the most sort of surprising reaction
02:45all of you guys have gotten
02:48from either fellow actors or fellow directors
02:51or just people in response to this show?
02:54I will say one of the things that's been really rewarding
02:57is people who don't think they like Marvel shows
03:01or have nothing to do with Marvel
03:02and would think they wouldn't want to watch it
03:04and find themselves binging
03:06my mother's therapist
03:08literally the last person who would watch it
03:12texted her
03:13was like
03:14I stayed up all night
03:15I've never binged a show before
03:16I watched the whole thing
03:17and I feel like
03:20that's a testament
03:21to Destin's directing
03:23Yaya and Sir Ben's performance
03:24that people get pulled in
03:26and this is a show that
03:28hopefully people connect with
03:30Excuse me
03:32The thing that's been most rewarding to me
03:35about this experience
03:37is that it actually makes a difference
03:40It's been making a difference
03:42and people who have dreams and aspirations
03:47and they see so much of themselves in Simon's journey
03:51I get messages all the time
03:55about people who are on their way to somewhere
03:58and they sometimes feel like giving up
04:00or they don't feel seen
04:02or they feel like they're all alone
04:05or maybe they have pivoted
04:08and moved into a different direction
04:09and then through watching Simon
04:11they were rooting for him
04:13and hoping that he didn't make the same choice
04:16and that's been able to
04:19light a fire under them
04:20or not even a fire
04:23but just protect their candle
04:25protect their light from going out
04:28so it's really
04:29you know
04:32reach people of all walks of life
04:35and not just the creative field
04:37you know
04:37people with secrets
04:39and aspirations of being
04:41something other than
04:42what they currently are
04:44You said you were watching
04:46videos of people watching the show
04:48Yeah, yeah, yeah
04:49It's the first time that I did that
04:53it usually takes me about three seasons
04:56three years
04:57to watch my work
04:59but for this one
05:00I was sort of curious
05:01because it was comedy
05:01so I wanted to see if people would get the jokes
05:04you know what I mean
05:06and they did get the jokes
05:08but I also saw people
05:10going on the ride
05:12when Simon's in that car
05:13in episode three
05:17they're saying
05:19I'll go with episode one
05:21because since we just watched two
05:23you know watched two episodes
05:24when Simon's in the beginning
05:25in that first episode
05:26and he's you know
05:28making adjustments to the pencils
05:30and when he's talking about the script
05:32and maybe we should do it this way
05:33they're on the edge of the seat
05:34saying no
05:35don't do it that way
05:37man
05:37and like
05:38oh this guy needs to shut up
05:40and then you got
05:40have the ones that are just experts
05:42and there's like
05:43he's blowing it
05:44you just can't do that
05:45you know
05:45so people really
05:46they got to interact with this
05:49from all different
05:50from all different angles
05:52and later on
05:53especially the parts
05:54where Simon felt like giving up
05:55they really really didn't want him to give up
05:58and to me
06:00that signal that they were right there
06:02in his shoes
06:02the entire time
06:04that's amazing
06:07you guys
06:08so this started off as
06:09two different shows
06:11correct?
06:12when you guys sort of
06:13then came together on this?
06:16yeah it started off
06:17with like
06:17kind of a joke show
06:19which was
06:20Trevor Goes to Hollywood
06:21it was like this
06:23this joke pitch
06:24that I
06:25I gave to
06:26to Jonathan Schwartz
06:28our producer
06:29on Shang-Chi
06:29that we should just do a show
06:32called Trevor Goes to Hollywood
06:33and just follow him
06:34to
06:34to this place
06:35that he
06:36disappeared from
06:37and find out
06:38all the things that he
06:39all the trouble
06:40that he's been running from
06:42that joke pitch
06:44turned into
06:45a real thing
06:46when we found out
06:47that Wonder Man
06:48was
06:49was
06:50in early development
06:51of
06:53of this character
06:55that also operates
06:56in the MCU Hollywood
06:57and so
06:59the
07:00those two ideas
07:01collided
07:02and
07:03that's when
07:04Andrew came in
07:05to
07:05help us
07:06try to
07:07discover
07:08how we could make a show
07:09out of these two
07:10very distinct characters
07:13yeah
07:14they were
07:14which is
07:15unlike Marvel
07:17they were really open
07:18to any interpretation
07:19of this
07:19comic book character
07:20who has a very complex
07:23and
07:24and
07:24varied
07:26backstory
07:26and they were like
07:28we don't
07:29we really want to
07:30try to do a show
07:31about the entertainment industry
07:33and
07:34that let
07:35us
07:35sort of
07:36really explore
07:37what I was the most interested in
07:39which is this guy
07:40who does have a dream
07:41that
07:42this town
07:43is
07:43is tough
07:44it is hard to
07:45create a career here
07:46the people who come here
07:48because they believe in something
07:50it's
07:50it's a testament to them
07:51that we get these stories made
07:53and
07:53even when they're pains in the ass
07:55like Simon is
07:56and
07:56you know
07:57sometimes that's
07:58that's what you need
07:59you need that pain in the ass
08:00because they're gonna elevate the material
08:02and
08:02there's something beautiful in that to me
08:04even though
08:04god
08:05you don't want to work with Simon
08:06when you're fucking starting out
08:07you know
08:08it's a pain
08:10well
08:10it's funny
08:11you guys talk about
08:12like sort of the magic
08:13of the journey
08:14and
08:15right now
08:16there's
08:16there's
08:16a bit of a doom mentality
08:18over Hollywood
08:19and
08:19and the entertainment
08:20the film and TV industry
08:23but
08:24but this show
08:25it has a lot of
08:25sort of
08:26sincerity
08:27and magic
08:28to
08:29to the Hollywood
08:30journey
08:30and
08:31you know
08:32how do you find that
08:33right tone
08:34to keep it from
08:35veering that the sky
08:36is falling
08:37or
08:39conversely
08:39you know
08:39how do you
08:40make it
08:41not too much
08:42of a satire
08:43but still like
08:44keep it
08:44on this
08:45on this journey
08:46it's all
08:46it's all you guys
08:48I mean
08:48for me
08:50it
08:51what I have
08:52always loved
08:53about
08:54you know
08:55all the scripts
08:55that came out
08:56of this amazing
08:57writer's room
08:58that
08:58Andrew put together
09:00it was always
09:02just character
09:03first
09:04it was
09:04and
09:05and the character
09:06of
09:07Simon Williams
09:08is not
09:10that he's a superhero
09:11it's not
09:12that this is a satire
09:13on
09:14the MCU
09:15or superhero movies
09:16it's also not
09:18that this is a
09:18it's
09:19it's not only
09:20just a satire
09:21on Hollywood
09:21I think
09:22this is
09:23a show
09:24about
09:25this kid
09:26who had
09:27gifts
09:27and the gifts
09:29are the things
09:30that made him
09:31very different
09:32from the
09:33and feel like
09:34an outsider
09:35since he was a kid
09:36those gifts
09:37are also
09:38what happens
09:39to make him
09:40a pain in the ass
09:41and a really
09:42good actor
09:43and
09:44the only person
09:46that really
09:48believed in him
09:49or
09:50was his dad
09:52who's no longer
09:52with him
09:53that to me
09:54is the heart
09:54of this
09:55of this season
09:56you know
09:56and
09:57and that
09:57connection
09:58to movies
09:59to me
10:01is rooted
10:01in his
10:02connection
10:03to another
10:03person
10:03that he
10:04loves
10:04and
10:05there's
10:06nothing
10:06more
10:07relatable
10:07for me
10:09than
10:09that moment
10:10sitting in a
10:11theater
10:11with somebody
10:12you love
10:13and where
10:14the movie
10:15becomes the
10:16most important
10:17thing in your
10:18life
10:18because of the
10:19person you're
10:20sitting next to
10:20and the experience
10:21that you went
10:22through that day
10:24did you guys
10:25have somebody
10:27that you went
10:27to the movies
10:27with that
10:28how you
10:29kind of have
10:30that moment
10:32personally
10:32yeah personally
10:33I remember
10:34going to see
10:35League of
10:36Extraordinary
10:37Gentlemen
10:37with my dad
10:38that's the
10:39that's the only
10:40movie that I
10:40ever remember
10:41seeing
10:42wow
10:42that's the only
10:43movie that I
10:44ever remember
10:45seeing with my
10:46dad and it
10:46was because of
10:47that that
10:48for a long
10:49time
10:49League of
10:50Extraordinary
10:50League of
10:51Extraordinary
10:52Gentlemen
10:52was like
10:53my
10:55favorite
10:55movie
10:56like my
10:57favorite
10:58movie
10:59and it was
11:00because I saw
11:01it with my
11:01I saw it with
11:02my dad
11:02so that
11:03that absolutely
11:04it had nothing
11:05to do with
11:05the movie
11:06it had nothing
11:07to do with
11:07the movie
11:07it had to do
11:08with like
11:08the guy
11:09who I was
11:09sitting next
11:10to
11:11you know
11:11when I was
11:12so young
11:13so yeah
11:14I have that
11:14that stuff
11:15is super
11:16like I saw
11:16Crocodile Dundee
11:172
11:18with my
11:19dad
11:20and I
11:20you know
11:21the movie
11:22is a movie
11:22but like
11:23it's that
11:23you remember
11:24the parent
11:25dad being
11:26there
11:26what about
11:26you Andrew
11:28Indiana Jones
11:29seeing it
11:30multiple times
11:30with my dad
11:31who loved
11:31that movie
11:32and I loved
11:33with him
11:34for that
11:34reason
11:35yeah
11:38so you
11:39before this
11:40had done
11:41Aquaman
11:41as a villain
11:42then you did
11:44the very
11:44mysterious role
11:45of Doctor
11:46Manhattan
11:46in Watchmen
11:48and when Marvel
11:49came calling
11:50for this
11:51were you
11:52at all like
11:53okay I've done
11:53enough comic book
11:54stuff
11:55or were you
11:56like did you need
11:57convincing
11:58to do this
11:59I did need
12:00some convincing
12:00but I still
12:01but I wasn't
12:02it techno
12:02it wasn't like
12:03I had done
12:04enough
12:04man I was
12:05over there
12:05looking over
12:06the fence
12:06I was waiting
12:07for a chance
12:07to like come
12:08and play
12:08in the Marvel
12:09world
12:09and you know
12:10I really
12:11I really
12:12see
12:12no I guess
12:12I really
12:13wanted to be
12:13over here
12:14playing
12:14like it was
12:15it was so
12:16cool
12:16what what
12:18Marvel was
12:18doing
12:19they were
12:19building
12:19something
12:20that I
12:20thought
12:20was very
12:22smart
12:22it was fun
12:23it was
12:24funny
12:24my friends
12:26were
12:26you know
12:27my friends
12:28were on
12:28the Marvel
12:29side
12:30and I
12:31really
12:32wanted
12:33to
12:34I really
12:35wanted
12:35to play
12:36but when
12:36the phone
12:37call
12:37did come
12:38I had a
12:39conversation
12:40I had a couple
12:40conversations
12:40I had one
12:41conversation
12:41with Destin
12:42and I said
12:43I want to
12:43play a
12:43character
12:44who can
12:45take a
12:45sip of
12:46water
12:46you know
12:47because I
12:47had been
12:47chasing Aquaman
12:48for two
12:49movies
12:49you know
12:50and I
12:50was the only
12:51human
12:51I didn't
12:52get a
12:52sip of
12:52water
12:53in like
12:53two movies
12:54and I'm
12:55in this
12:55hot suit
12:56and Aquaman
12:57chugging
12:57beers
12:58and riding
12:58motorcycles
12:58and drinking
12:59and eating
13:00hamburgers
13:00and I'm
13:01like
13:01I'm
13:02like
13:02hey
13:02dude
13:02I'm
13:03the only
13:03human
13:04in this
13:04movie
13:05so I
13:05kind
13:05of
13:05want
13:05to
13:06sip
13:06but
13:08I don't
13:09have
13:09baggage
13:09I don't
13:09have
13:10baggage
13:11no but
13:12so
13:13Destin
13:14let me
13:14know that
13:15hey
13:15we're
13:15going
13:15to do
13:15something
13:16that's
13:16human
13:16something
13:17that
13:17he said
13:18basically
13:19you will
13:19get a
13:20chance
13:20to have
13:20your
13:21sip
13:21of
13:21water
13:21and I
13:22said
13:22okay
13:24to still
13:24talk to
13:25Feige
13:25to make
13:26sure
13:26that
13:27this
13:27actually
13:28makes
13:28sense
13:29for me
13:29to do
13:29and my
13:30reps
13:30did not
13:31want me
13:32to bug
13:32him
13:33for a
13:33conversation
13:34and I
13:34said
13:35no I
13:35need to
13:36talk to
13:36him
13:36and they
13:37said
13:38maybe
13:38somebody
13:39else
13:39I said
13:39get him
13:40on the
13:40phone
13:41or I'm
13:42going to
13:42say no
13:42and so
13:43Feige
13:44can you
13:44have
13:44so
13:44Feige
13:45he made
13:46time
13:46and he
13:46had the
13:47conversation
13:48and I
13:48asked him
13:49I said
13:49hey
13:49I know
13:50I only
13:50get one
13:51Marvel
13:51buck
13:52to spend
13:52like
13:53is this
13:54going to
13:54be worth
13:55my dollar
13:55because
13:56I can
13:57wait
13:57and he
13:58said
13:58no
13:59trust me
14:00it'll
14:00be worth
14:00it
14:01and I'm
14:02so glad
14:02that this
14:03is the
14:04role that
14:05I got
14:05to spend
14:05my dollar
14:06on because
14:06I'm getting
14:07all of the
14:08super stuff
14:08and I'm getting
14:09all of the
14:10human stuff
14:11at the same
14:11time
14:11and it's
14:12really
14:14a gift
14:15I've got
14:15one of the
14:16best jobs
14:16in the world
14:17playing Simon
14:17Williams
14:18for sure
14:19so that's
14:20his perspective
14:21of getting
14:22cast
14:22what about
14:23you two
14:24guys
14:24trying to
14:25chase him
14:26to convince
14:26him
14:27how was
14:27that process
14:28or maybe
14:29it wasn't
14:29that challenging
14:30for you guys
14:30I mean I
14:32remember our
14:32first conversation
14:33and
14:36you
14:36you weren't
14:37at least you
14:38weren't
14:39portraying to me
14:40that you were
14:40bouncing off the
14:41walls about to
14:42say yes
14:42in a second
14:43so it
14:44definitely
14:45I think
14:46rightfully
14:47so
14:50a you
14:51were wondering
14:51you were
14:52wondering about
14:52the experience
14:53how the
14:54experience would
14:55be that was
14:55one one
14:56thing which
14:57which I
14:59you know
14:59that's that's
15:00one thing I
15:01I feel like
15:02we can
15:06control
15:06is the
15:07experience of
15:08what we're
15:08about to do
15:09not necessarily
15:10control the
15:11weather or the
15:12money or the
15:12time pressure
15:13but we can
15:14we can control
15:15who who we
15:16hire and the
15:17types of people
15:17that are going
15:18to be working
15:18on this we
15:19were able
15:20we knew we
15:20were shooting
15:20in LA I
15:22knew so much
15:23of the crew
15:23here it's like
15:24the best crew
15:24in the world
15:26but also it's
15:27you know this
15:28is a city
15:28of dreamers
15:29and so we
15:30knew that
15:30that I
15:31knew that we
15:32could create
15:32an experience
15:33that would
15:33be fulfilling
15:36the the
15:37other thing
15:37that Yaya
15:38was very
15:40pointed about
15:41was tone
15:43he wasn't
15:44interested in
15:45doing a
15:46slapstick
15:47comedy he
15:48was also
15:48not interested
15:49in doing
15:49you know
15:50just a
15:51straight down
15:52the middle
15:53superhero show
15:55and I
15:56was very
15:57happy to
15:58hear that
15:59because that
16:00that was
16:01not what
16:01we wanted
16:02for this
16:03show
16:03and I
16:03will say
16:04as a
16:04writer I
16:05had before
16:06we began
16:06this casting
16:07process
16:07write a
16:08pilot where
16:09I was making
16:10a choice
16:10about who
16:11this character
16:11was and
16:12trying to
16:12figure out
16:13how Simon
16:14worked or
16:14whatever
16:14and one
16:15of the
16:15things we
16:16all knew
16:17and this
16:18may sound
16:18stupid
16:18but Simon
16:19had to be
16:20a really
16:20good actor
16:21because not
16:22only does
16:22he have to
16:22act well
16:23in the show
16:24he has to
16:24act not
16:25well he has
16:26to act
16:26poorly and
16:27that is
16:27hard to
16:28do and I
16:29didn't want
16:29to have a
16:30character be
16:30like oh my
16:31god did you
16:31see that
16:32terrible
16:32performance I
16:33wanted Simon's
16:34performance to
16:35be the thing
16:36that we knew
16:36as an audience
16:37was either good
16:37or bad and
16:38that is really
16:39hard and
16:41Destin had
16:41seen Yaya
16:42and Top Dog
16:43Underdog on
16:43Broadway and
16:44he's like Andrew
16:44you gotta go see
16:45him and I
16:45went I mean I
16:46already was a
16:47fan of his work
16:47from the Watchmen
16:48series and many
16:49other things but
16:49I mean how many
16:51people look like a
16:52superhero have a
16:53soul of a poet and
16:54have his ability and
16:55his range I mean
16:56it's a one of one
16:58situation so I was
17:00just thrilled that
17:01he was interested
17:02and that we all
17:03wanted to make
17:04the things that
17:05interested us about
17:06this project were
17:07all the same
17:07things and we were
17:08all trying to make
17:08the same show
17:09Top Dog Underdog
17:11was what fully
17:13convinced me that
17:14you would be the
17:15perfect Simon
17:17Williams because
17:18that play I mean
17:21the subject matter
17:22of that play it
17:23should not be
17:24funny but man I
17:26when I was when I
17:28saw I flew to New
17:29York to watch it
17:30and I was I was in
17:31a you know the I
17:33think the audience
17:34that I was in was
17:35pretty classic
17:36theater audience
17:38like you know
17:39upper class type
17:40type people who
17:42you know but who
17:44I didn't even think
17:46would get the play
17:47yeah but they were
17:49rolling on like I
17:50mean it was very
17:51it was also very
17:52dramatic and and
17:54emotional but the
17:55parts that were
17:55funny which were
17:56just just just
17:58Yaya on stage by
18:00himself prepping
18:02just cleaning and
18:03getting ready for
18:04the for the
18:05date or whatever
18:06and it goes on
18:07forever and the
18:08audience was just
18:09rolling because
18:11anyway that's that's
18:13when I knew that's
18:13why well you you
18:16brought this up about
18:17an actor playing a
18:19bad actor and a good
18:19actor so to Yaya
18:21you're an actor
18:22playing an actor and
18:24you have to play an
18:24actor who was a bad
18:25actor you have to
18:26then play an actor
18:28who is an improving
18:29actor and then you
18:30also then have to
18:31find your way to be
18:33an actor who plays a
18:34good actor
18:36you want to know
18:37how I did it
18:39yeah how yeah how
18:40did you do it and
18:41and then and what
18:42was sort of the
18:43internal clock that
18:44you were setting you
18:46know at different
18:46stages all right so
18:49and how did these
18:50guys help I'll take
18:51a minute to to tell
18:52this if I can so we
18:53were talking about
18:54optimism outside right
18:56one of the things that
18:57I do for myself well
18:59I'm not always
18:59optimistic about
19:00everything but in my
19:01acting I tried to
19:02stack the deck in my
19:04favor one of the
19:06things that I had to
19:07make very simple is
19:09like I'm not an
19:09actor playing an
19:10actor I had to take
19:11away all of that and
19:13I had to say what is
19:16basically I set it up
19:18such that
19:24Simon's fears and his
19:25insecurities that's what
19:27he was always dealing
19:28with he was just a
19:29guy who was who had a
19:31dream he had some
19:32goals but he was
19:33afraid he loves acting
19:34but he was just really
19:36navigating his nerves on
19:38the inside he was
19:39really navigating these
19:41rough waters acting was
19:44the only place where he
19:50he felt quiet on the
19:52inside so it was really
19:55my process was really such
19:57that I allowed it I
19:59allowed Simon to be
20:00calmed by the act by
20:04the opportunity to stand
20:05on the marking to say
20:07the word so acting was
20:08really Simon's his safe
20:11space and everything
20:14else was was really the
20:16the physical negotiation
20:18of like the nerves and
20:19what's going on on the
20:20inside so I never thought
20:22about playing an actor
20:23being an actor because
20:24all of that that would
20:25just get way too complex
20:26for me and the camera
20:28would pick that up and
20:29and I wasn't too sure if
20:31that would be a good
20:31thing I don't want to
20:32start behaving like
20:33Simon and trying to move
20:34pieces around stalling and
20:36things like that because
20:37I'm trying to get my mind
20:38right you know so I broke
20:39it down and I made it
20:40really really simple so
20:44that I'd never have to be
20:45an actor playing an actor
20:46I would just have to be
20:47Simon really trying to
20:49cover up his fears or or
20:51or you know going through
20:52his his really going through
20:55his internal moments while
20:58betting on this the the
21:02the acting experience being
21:04the thing that sort of
21:04calms those waters and then
21:06when it came time to that
21:07it either worked or it
21:08didn't but luckily when it
21:10didn't you know we just do
21:12another take you know I
21:15didn't have to get it all
21:16right on the first take you
21:17know what I mean so so it
21:18was it was it was teamwork but
21:20I definitely did have my
21:21method to make it less
21:23complex still a feat to do
21:25you know still a feat to do
21:26but yeah jump in on that
21:29one or no I I mean I would
21:33only say that I don't think
21:34Simon in this show is ever a
21:37bad actor I does some bad
21:41performances on his self tape
21:42where he does where we know
21:44I'm just saying that he's not
21:45not a bad actor in general he
21:47does a bad performance in the
21:48moment like sure I'm just
21:50I really like those
21:51performances I was like would
21:53you like to charge it how
21:54about that one would you
21:57like to charge it to the
21:57room how about that one what
22:00was that rap that rap from
22:02which one oh my god zombies
22:04yeah which I didn't I
22:06recently watched zombies with
22:09my kids and saw that rap this
22:11is a Disney movie and I was
22:13like but it it for when I saw
22:15the rap I was like Simon
22:17Williams should have booked
22:18this part he's so much better
22:20who got better but he was
22:22like he was insane that no I'm
22:24not but I was saying he was
22:26acting in the tone of that show
22:28he did a great job so it wasn't
22:31one of the times he was
22:32performing
22:37let's talk about working with
22:38Sir Ben
22:39yeah
22:41he he's you know has a reputation
22:43of being a very serious actor
22:46a thespian yeah as they say
22:49do you remember your first meeting
22:52with him
22:53yeah my first my first meeting was
22:55a zoom meeting I wanted to meet
22:56him to tell him to really you know
22:58being you know number one on the
23:00call sheet I'm just being a leader
23:01and I'm introducing myself to the
23:03guy who's going to be my partner
23:05and I want to see if he needs
23:06anything and he let me know very
23:08quickly that he don't need a thing
23:12he's not gonna need a thing from me
23:15and that if I wanted to get in make
23:17any changes to the script that I
23:18better do it now because he's
23:20putting those words in his head and
23:23once they go in it is stones that
23:25that it is stone that's what he said
23:29and I was like oh okay all right
23:32I'll talk to you later I'll let you
23:34get back to your little glass of wine
23:35and we was over at zoom
23:38boy that put a that lit a fire under
23:40me I was like you know I don't think
23:41Sir Ben know who he dealt with over
23:43here you know what I mean
23:44yeah you texted me right because I
23:47knew that he was that he was talking
23:49to Sir Ben and then I I got the text
23:51right after why didn't you warn me
23:54but then I when I thought what I
23:57really respected was your response
24:00was like okay I he gives you said I
24:03I kind of like it yeah and and I
24:08think that's that's what ended that
24:11attitude very quickly won the respect
24:14of surveying yeah it was a it was a
24:15challenge and this is this is the very
24:17beginning stages and I took that as a
24:19I took it as a slight I was on
24:22Broadway doing some of my best work
24:23I'm a hundred shows in I'm I'm
24:25I'm classically trained you know yeah
24:27I've been around for nine years but
24:29like you know nine to his 40 or
24:32whatever how many years he plus years
24:33he's been around but you know I put in
24:37real tough work real real hard work
24:39during those nine years and I you know
24:41I respect myself but so I showed up to
24:44the table read ready to go and I'm
24:46prepared and he's going and I'm going
24:47and then it was sort of like we just
24:50saw each other and I think he said oh
24:53he cares and then I said oh he he just
24:55cares and that was really all that we
24:58needed to be um sort of in cahoots and
25:03then we really became partners and then
25:05our job was to protect Simon and Trevor
25:09and to protect this story because we
25:11weren't always going to have you know
25:12Destin he would be there on the phone
25:14you know but he was there to kick us
25:16off you know to set us off for those
25:18first two episodes and then we were
25:20going to be the constant moving
25:22throughout the rest of the age so we
25:23really formed a partnership that
25:25allowed us to advocate for those
25:28characters in between action and cut
25:30and and that's that's really what the
25:31relationship ended up being like a
25:33really beautiful you know relationship
25:38did the relationship extend beyond the
25:41set you guys hanging out at restaurants
25:43no no that that he wasn't interested
25:46in that and he he Sir Ben basically
25:51treats the the process incredibly
25:53seriously and and and and when he's
25:56working he's working yeah and he's a
25:58monk you know he he goes home and he
26:01and he knows his lines and it you know
26:04he's somebody who you know with this
26:07classical Shakespearean training treats
26:09the script like it it's his job to make
26:12it work he's not coming there with
26:14questions or wants to change things if
26:16it's on the page I go home I figure out
26:19how to make it make sense and I come
26:21home and I and I come on set and I'm
26:22ready and I'm and he works and then and
26:26then he takes his time and he takes
26:27whatever else he needs but it's it and
26:29it in in a great way it you know it
26:31extends throughout the whole set and
26:32everyone's taking the work more
26:34seriously and we also didn't need it we
26:36didn't need it and we didn't want it we
26:38we I met Sir Ben and I kid you not in
26:41the rehearsal process that's where I met
26:43him a bit but I met Sir Ben in the
26:46moments between action and cut just as
26:48Simon was meeting Trevor and the camera
26:55witnessed it and that's why as the season
26:59progressed these two characters they get
27:01closer and closer and closer and friendship
27:03because we didn't because we were actually
27:05establishing a relationship and meeting
27:07one another finding one another in
27:09between action and cut talking and
27:11listening and then cut and we walk in our
27:14different directions he's always way over
27:15there and I'm over here looking
27:17sometimes but I'm way over here doing my
27:21thing you know top of the day the most
27:23we would do is at the top of the day we
27:25would say what's the story and then we
27:27talk less than a minute on what the story
27:30was then he'd go over his way I go my way
27:32and then I'd see him on the mark you know
27:35when it was when it was time to go and
27:36that was a perfectly fine way to work
27:40was this series shot in order pretty much
27:44I'm just gonna jump to the end then
27:46second season where what can you tell us
27:51about like the direction or the tone of a
27:56season two because the ending is you know
28:00through the sky right so what can you say
28:05the tone is gonna stay the same the
28:07people who like this show and like it
28:10because it feels different are gonna be
28:12rewarded and the people who are like well
28:14maybe the show's gonna suddenly turn into
28:16something else I'm sorry to say it's not I
28:19mean every element that's still here
28:21Simon still has superpowers it's still
28:24gonna be a show about this relationship and
28:26about two artists and about our industry
28:29that is essentially what we want to maintain
28:33and where are you guys in the writing
28:34process now or or where yeah the early
28:37stages of the writing process so you're
28:39writing you're like awesome if anyone has
28:42any ideas and want to pitch me some ideas
28:44after this okay well not and on that note
28:47let's wrap this up thank you guys so much
28:59no
28:59thanks
