06:19All day long and through most of the night, London's millions kept it up.
06:23The real lights of London were not yet on, but that wasn't going to stop the celebration for a second.
06:28Everyone realized perfectly well that although the German war was over, the Japanese war was not.
06:33But for 48 hours at least, rejoicing was off the ration.
06:40YRA, c'est parti.

07:33All through the day, the King and Queen had answered call after call, so it was again at night.
07:39Thousands upon thousands went to the palace, for this is a way we have in Great Britain,
07:43the family and the head of the family rejoice together.
07:48It was at nine o'clock on V.E. Day that the King had broadcast his message to the people
07:53of Britain,
07:54the British Empire and the Commonwealth of Nations.
07:56But today, we give thanks to God for a great deliverance.
08:07Speaking from our empire's oldest capital city,
08:13war battered, I would never for one moment be daunted or dismayed.
08:19Germany, the enemy who drove all Europe into war, has been finally overcome.
08:33In the Far East, we have yet to deal with the Japanese, a determined and cruel foe.
08:43As the Queen and I know, and the ordeals which you have endured throughout the Commonwealth and Empire.
08:58We are proud to have shared some of them with you.
09:05And we know also that we shall all face the future together in the hour of danger that we humbly
09:15committed our cause into the hand of God.
09:21And he has been our strength and shield.
09:27Let us thank him for his mercies.
09:30And in this hour of victory,
09:34commit ourselves and our new task to the guidance of the same strong hand.
09:44Thank you guys.
