00:00MyCard holders are not required to replace them when the new version is introduced on June 1.
00:06Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said while it is mandatory for Malaysians aged 12 and above to possess a MyCard,
00:14there is no requirement for card holders to replace it immediately.
00:19More than 20 million Malaysians currently hold the identity card.
00:23He said the public need not rush to the National Registration Department to replace their MyCard
00:28as the law does not require card holders to do so immediately once the new version is introduced.
00:35Saifuddin was responding to questions on whether replacement of the MyCard with the new version would be made compulsory for
00:43all Malaysians.
00:44Yesterday, JPN Director-General Badru Hisham Alias said the new MyCard would feature 53 security elements compared with 23 in
00:53the current version.
00:54The enhanced features include laser engraving, ultraviolet elements, holograms, geloge patterns, microtext,
01:03a quick response code for enforcement purposes, and a chip with upgraded encryption.
