00:00So to put this unrest into context, I think we might have to pause briefly, because of some protests from
00:10the fans.
00:17Medellin at the weekend, they needed a win at home to qualify for the playoffs of the Apertura in Colombia,
00:26and they lost 2-1.
00:29Medellin knocked out at the end of the game.
00:32The club president came out onto the pitch, started remonstrating towards the home fans, took out notes of money from
00:42his pocket and started throwing it at the home support, insulted them in all sorts.
00:50Absolute mess at Independiente Medellin.
00:55And we see some really unpleasant scenes, and this game has barely got underway, and we're already going to have
01:10to stop.
01:12This is what the fans had promised.
01:16A big group of the Medellin support said that they were going to boycott this game, they weren't even going
01:20to turn up.
01:20Another group said, no, we're going to go and we're going to make our voices heard.
01:25Protesting is one thing.
01:28But security has to be
01:31The priority.
01:40Those reports even that the local police had suggested that this game could be played behind closed doors.
01:49It might even, it might have been better, perhaps, that they would just not let any of the fans in,
01:54maintain the protest outside of the stadium.
01:58They've decided to go ahead with things.
02:00And we've heard from the very first moment that the Medellin players, even when they came out to warm up,
02:06before we joined the transmission, whistles and boos and insults and all sorts being directed from the home fans at
02:15their own players.
02:18And to make things worse, just after that elimination at the weekend, some unsubstantiated reports came out suggesting that two
02:29of the current Medellin players had accepted bribes to throw the Colombian final last year.
02:37As we say, completely unsubstantiated reports, but that just gives you a dimension of just the chaos that has exploded
02:46at this club over the last week.
02:50The game has been interrupted.
02:54Visibility is poor, but also I don't think the interruption is just because of visibility.
03:03We saw some angry fans.
03:05Knocking over fences and barricades and
03:09trying to throw things onto the pitch.
03:16Players have been brought to the dugouts just for their own safety, really, at the moment.
03:30What you're seeing in the stands
03:33tonight is the players
03:35are going to have to leave the pitch.
03:39Saying this didn't come from nowhere, this has been building.
03:44Fans had warned that
03:45they were going to protest.
03:48Football supporters, of course,
03:49they don't turn on their own club out of nowhere.
03:58Of course, it's worth being clear that we can see, you know, only a section of the crowd
04:06being involved in these pyrotechnics and the flares and these explosives.
04:14not the whole stadium.
04:16Not the whole stadium.
04:17Not the whole stadium.
