Golf Monthly gets on board the brand new TaylorMade tour truck for 2025 to see what goes on, what the players get each week and some of the secrets of the trade when it comes to building clubs for some of the world's best players.

00:04tailor-made tour truck so we're gonna have a sneak peek inside meet the team

00:17the truck no worries so where should we start where do you where do you want to start so what
00:21is new for 2025 i think okay so the glaring obviously thing that i would like to say about
00:27this the old truck versus what we've done on this truck is is right behind us in here is the
00:32office
00:32we had a fixed unit in our old truck which is a smaller office you could only really get about
00:37three people in there now i'll bring you through and you show you this big new office that we have
00:42so through here is now our meeting room come chill out area for our players that just want to escape
00:49what's going on hide from you guys the media wow yeah and so yeah it's just like we've got a
00:54work
00:54station here so one thing we're big on is showing stats to players it helps when we're building clubs
00:58for these players like spotting gaps in their game where they can get better at um so we'll just sit
01:03here we've got hdmi ports that actually plug it up onto here so we can you imagine if you're a
01:08player i can show you your stats from the weeks that you've played yeah and then we can just go
01:12through like what areas of the golf bag do we need to create something better for you to play better
01:17golf and that is one thing that we're doing here we have fridges that are in these cabinets here
01:20we've got a massive seating area there wireless chargers you know home away from home is pretty
01:26much debris for this truck i was going to say it is it is very spacious you could live in
01:30here quite
01:30comfortably yeah i mean trust me i'll be i'll be lying across there when there's nothing to do is
01:35this when the when the players come on here and they just want to relax have a chat that's kind
01:38of
01:38primarily be where they hang out you imagine these players are away for eight weeks at a time right
01:42um you know they've got family at home it's nice to have the doors come shut now and then you
01:47can sit
01:47here facetime loved ones and make sure they're okay and then look forward to getting home i'd
01:51imagine so yeah we have like our hats just like general hats that are kept in here nicely hidden
01:56away oh yeah very nice and then the ones that are left there is all our player specific hats i'll

02:01you those now yeah but normally we would have uh the golf on these tvs here um but yeah the
02:08players will
02:08come on and grab their own hats out of here and stuff like that each week so some familiar names
02:13there
02:13but mostly our dp world tour players very cool so that's the office um just push this button here
02:19to get this star trekky door all of the mod cons yeah exactly and then um the kitchen area it's
02:27a very
02:27very very very popular part of this truck mainly for caddies straight on double espresso straight to the
02:33range um so we just keep our snacks and stuff like that exactly um seating area either side so obviously
02:40what we wanted to try and do is when people come on this trailer there's and not actually like feel
02:45like they have to always gravitate towards coming into the workshop um they don't want a shaft in
02:50the eye or anything like that and we don't we obviously don't want to do that so yeah we've worked
02:54out we could probably get about 12 people sitting down in the office and obviously in these areas as
02:59well our previous truck would have about five or six people being able to sit somewhere i was going to
03:03say is this quite a lot larger like square footage wise no so actually the trailer itself is not that
03:09much bigger okay obviously we're restricted for european driving laws yeah we can't go taller
03:14unless we want half a tour truck turning up in paris with a pretty tight in france yeah um so
03:19we can't
03:20go like that and we've gone like a hundred mil wider each side oh wow that's really not that much
03:24at
03:24all but what we've been able to do with uh the new generation of these trailers is the floor doesn't
03:29come up as high yeah so we've been able to shallow up the drawers keep the maximum amount of space
03:34but actually make more of an open plan area nice if you've seen our other truck as well
03:39we used to have big storage units across the truck um where we would keep a lot of stuff
03:44that just takes up so much room and it's quite ugly so we just try to get rid of that
03:48and and
03:49store a lot of it in here or underneath in the pods i was gonna say it's all very like
03:53neat and tidy
03:53everything looks very nicely kind of tucked away and it still has that new car smell um but it won't
03:59have that trust me a weekend it won't have that if it rains in belgium it won't be smelling this
04:03good
04:04so how many of you are typically come tournament week like on on deck so to speak so most weeks
04:11on
04:11tour would have one technician our technician alex is the is the best golf club builder in the world so
04:16we're very fortunate to have him um he he would predominantly be on this truck he's the face of
04:21the truck he uh the only thing he's not allowed to do which he'll agree with is he's not allowed
04:24to
04:24choose the music um because he listens to a lot of grime music and that's just not a vibe for
04:29me so i
04:30i have my own playlist that i'll put on but he controls it he's the face of the truck he
04:33gets
04:34on with everyone he's brilliant um so he'll predominantly be on here and then it's my job
04:38to get my track man and get on the range and give him orders it's kind of like i'm the
04:41the ugly waitress
04:43he's the head chef so i kind of place the orders with him and then i have to go and
04:48give it to the
04:48players so we'll just do a quick whiz around yeah yeah i'm here and then that's it um so our
04:53old trailer
04:53we had a shaft rack like i just said right down the end of the trailer yeah that used to
04:57be 50 inches
04:58coming out which took up so much space so with the shaft rack behind us here is basically now what
05:04we've ended up with so we pull this up here and we get all of our iron shaft rack iron
05:11shaft rack so
05:12we get unbelievable support from these guys it's free marketing for them as well like we want to
05:18get tailor-made product into the best players hands they want their arrows we call them in in our heads
05:23so
05:23they give us great support there and then in here we keep all of our graphite stuff
05:29and then this is the money draw here where we have our team tailor-made players so we have tiger
05:34scotty rory there for example colin and tommy in the next draw along charlie hull and nelly quarter
05:39you know we might see these guys once or twice a week uh twice a year sorry um but we
05:44just like to
05:45make sure that we if they do need anything we're on hand and we have stock the last thing we
05:48want to do
05:49is have tiger come on and say hey can i have a new lob wedge and we turn around say
05:53sorry mate we
05:54haven't got your shop um which i don't think i'd call him mate but um i would i'd be like
06:00i'm so
06:00sorry let me find one mr woods yeah that's pretty much our shaft rack so again it looks neat and
06:06tidy
06:06looks part of the trailer yeah we didn't want people's eyes to come onto this truck and go hey
06:12that's where the shafts go we just wanted it to be nicely kept all branded quite nicely neat tidy
06:17everything has its place i'm liking the qi 35 yeah neons as well yeah it is pretty cool but
06:23we've got so many of these strip leds in it to try and color match them all up is quite
06:27a hard time
06:27i can imagine but um yeah we get on with it well so the side that we're on here yeah
06:31would predominantly
06:32be alex's side of the truck so he will be here everything is built for speed on this trailer
06:37sometimes you have such a narrow window with a player and a practice around they're teeing off in
06:41half an hour we if if i place an order with alex for a driver he'd have it built in
06:4525 minutes really
06:46yeah set ready to go that was going to be one of my next questions is how how long from
06:51yeah order
06:52hitting the deck yeah order hitting the deck if it's the only order on yeah 25 minutes and is that
06:57is that the same for every club is that or does some take a full set of irons i mean
07:01we we do build
07:02quite a few irons on the truck but a lot of that is done like sort of like in-house
07:06and we ship it to
07:07the players so they can get used to them and stuff but got it set of irons on the trailer
07:10looking at an
07:11hour a single golf club 25 minutes wow so it's quick turnaround time no we're like a very very
07:16slow formula one pit crew yeah yeah yeah but in the eyes of like golf club building we're fairly quick
07:22yeah if that makes nice so yeah we have everything down here i'll open up some of these drawers for
07:27you to see so we've got foam cutouts now lovely marketing team love us for this yeah i can imagine
07:32it looks so beautiful um you know once two or three of these heads are missing out of the trailer
07:36i mean it doesn't look as great but we have everything locked and loaded this is now ready
07:41for our first event so everything in these drawers we are ready to go yeah um we'll go to sudal
07:46which
07:46will be notoriously looking back on the last nine years of doing this job is is the first truck event
07:52and we've got a new trailer this is going to be busier than we've ever had it before
07:55so people will be coming on they might not need golf clubs but they'll definitely be coming on chilling
07:59on here yeah but yeah this is all fully ready um so that we've got like fairway woods in here
08:04we've got drivers we have irons down by where you are here we've got some wedge heads in here also
08:10so every bounce every loft everything you can think of high toe mg4 all of the weights are in the
08:17wall
08:17here so everything is component so the way would work order comes in alex grabs his shaft comes over to
08:22here grabs what he needs the headwise flips around grind cut bend everything 25 minutes how how many
08:31how many kind of when you're at full capacity how many clubs are you as a total depends how many
08:38hours
08:38al wants to work if alex wants to work a full day which is i mean he's so quick at
08:43building yeah um
08:44you know we could build anything from i guess 100 units a day really and how like when you're at
08:49full
08:49capacity in terms of like heads shafts how many how many clubs are there on the truck at any one
08:55time
08:55i don't know just should we start counting yeah um well i've got about yeah 90 mg4 i mean look
09:02we
09:02we tried to keep at least 12 of everything got it um drivers more so so like 20 of each
09:08loft and driver
09:08um and then irons we keep six sets of each iron um because just you know you're never going to
09:15go
09:15through six sets a week right so the truck will come back for a restock but alex likes to keep
09:19you
09:19know 15 of each head 20 of each head just to make sure we're all good and is there like
09:24historically
09:24one event that is busier than any other kind of come the open i mean i mean to be honest
09:30with you
09:30the first truck event because these guys like i mean i landed from johannesburg this morning at 5am
09:34so i've i've been away i've been away i've done seven of eight weeks so far on tour this year
09:39and
09:39i've not seen a tour truck yet so the players are the same right so we we do a lot
09:43of work with them
09:44in middle east we kind of just fit everything i check in three flight cases at 32 kilos yeah and
09:49then we
09:49just we just crack on as soon as the truck hits that first truck event everyone's on here for loft
09:53and
09:53lies re-grips new wedges everything you imagine we've got that 12 players and we're doing all of
09:58that it's it's a busy week um but yeah i mean we just we just try to make sure that
10:03the truck is is
10:04at best it can be for the the initial launch of it on the on on the dp world tour
10:09um but the open
10:11believe it or not is actually quite a quiet event for us oh really um yeah it's all in the
10:14preparation
10:15yeah obviously we have our limited edition staff bags and stuff like that that is all done in-house car
10:20our coordinator does everything with that i mean he's embroidering and yeah all sorts he's an
10:25absolute gem for us in that front um but it's just like when you get to the event the icon
10:30players are
10:30very very dialed in what they have so you might build up a low bounce wedge for links golf yeah
10:34or
10:34something like that or a two iron so they can take five foot out or whatever but other than that
10:38it's
10:39kind of like they're all set yeah they know what they need and and then you just work away so
10:43that's that
10:44story you told earlier about colin murakawa switching in is that is that quite a rare occurrence
10:49there yeah is it yeah it's a cool story right i mean fantastic i mean it's like colin hadn't played
10:53a lot of links golf yeah so it's he came over and he was getting his uh p730s that was
10:58just sticking
10:59in the ground and can't get him out you know he's used to playing in america with a different grass
11:02and yeah we're just like hey he needs more bounce on his irons let's just go mc keep the same
11:07loft and
11:07liars swing weights everything the same and it's just yeah what next thing you know you're an open champion
11:11next thing you know you know yeah that's that's what we're in the game for that right i mean 100
11:16you know the element of trust he trusted us to uh to come up with something that was great and
11:21yeah
11:22yeah we produced on that on that front i mean we didn't actually hear any of the shots
11:25yeah still has to hit it yeah he's the god you do we've got the tools and and then there
11:30you go
11:30the f1 pit crew is a good yeah yeah good comparison slow f1 picture yeah yeah very so yeah we've
11:36got
11:36everything loaded in here yeah if we flip around to this middle counter now this is what i absolutely love
11:41about this trailer is the fact that i can be working on that side alex can be working on that
11:45side we're not interfering with anyone everything is here so putter loft and lie iron loft in life
11:50i've got a player and i'm just checking a lie i don't have to interfere with anyone just come on
11:54check away i go it's all very very well positioned i imagine a lot of thought went into yeah yeah
11:58i mean
11:59this has been a three-year project for us yeah um you know you from sketching stuff on our old
12:05trailer
12:05with little bits of masking tape saying hey we can put this here to chalk drawings in our yard at
12:10the
12:10office oh really that detail yeah of course because we just wanted to make sure that everything
12:14flowed yeah and you know if it didn't flow then we could we can make the changes on scrap bits
12:18of
12:18paper i guess you don't want to constantly be knocking into each other exactly and that's that
12:22that's the thing that we didn't want to have we didn't want it to feel very very tight and
12:26claustrophobic and everyone just felt like they were in each other's way we wanted everyone to have
12:30a like a like a part to play do you have a favorite station is there one part is there
12:35one part of the
12:35build that you well i know alex is really enjoy alex is our part specialist in europe he loves
12:40putters so he will be on this like you would not believe um for me i like i'll show you
12:45in a minute
12:45but i really like the grinding wheel because obviously you can recreate grind you you you don't
12:50become a club assembly become a natural builder when you're designing your own grind
12:54i like this machine loft and lie for the irons and i also love this station over here so this
13:00is our
13:01de la cruz machine the golf instruments machine which gives me the true loft and lie of a driver
13:05so when the driver goes in i can edit the lie at the top then i put the pins on
13:10the face and it
13:11tells me the loft so if you've got a 10 and a half degree driver and you've set it to
13:15lower yeah it
13:17will tell me what the actual true loft is like that okay so important when i'm cherry picking heads for
13:21like rory or someone like that that likes to see it look a certain way but i need to get
13:24the loft
13:25exactly the same to quite a lot of players play a slightly different loft to what you see on the
13:30head
13:30is it yeah i mean we've got the fcts like uh the sleeves right so that's face changing technology
13:37so it also affects the loft but also how the golf club sits the lie angle of the golf club
13:41so
13:42when we have a yearly product life cycle like we have obviously qi10 last year qi35 this year
13:47a great starting point is getting exactly the same loft for loft what is the new driver doing for a
13:52player versus what it did last year so we always use this machine to start start afresh and that they
13:58would be my favorite too and then you have the grinding wheel in a nice little cupboard in its
14:04own hole so we're just there we can just sort of shape away using this belt here recreate the grinds
14:10go from an america type grass to here's a lynx one yeah get it low spinning check-in whatever all
14:17of
14:17that cool stuff that is what i really like that gets the juices flowing almost i can imagine yeah safety
14:23goggles on for that bad boy safety goggles full ppe full ppe i'm not getting any sparks in my eyes
14:31and then that's pretty much our trailer to be honest everything you know that would be my side
14:35i have a select few of driver heads fairway heads over there so i can go ahead and build if
14:39alex is
14:39really busy i see you've got some grips over here yeah and then i'll just show you here so we
14:43have
14:43just like the the player's shaft rack we also have the player's grip so oh wow you can imagine we've
14:49got
14:49like this is the tailor-made team tailor-made section here so we have like tiger and she's got
14:53scotty in the top so if i'm building something for tigers go straight over there gripping stations
14:58behind you there very cool and then this bit here with the fake grass a little bit of golf course

15:04yeah this is our good to go section so caddy's sitting here let's say yeah he can just literally
15:10lean over and just grab them and we do have oh you've got some oh i see all of that
15:15yeah very nice
15:16so we just have everything ready to go golf balls golf balls they're in the clubbers ah okay let's
15:24have a look at some golf balls so this is our uh cubby holes if you like yeah for our
15:30players so you can
15:31go in and see like if we've got something for rory we'll just open up we've got rory macaroy's tp5x
15:36he's obviously just switching to tp5 so we'll just keep those in there as well just in case he ever
15:40wants
15:40to go back um so the players would come on grab this stuff normally take three dozen balls a week

15:46gloves and three hats and obviously nike have these hats so we don't worry about those but then the
15:52player will come on go into the office and grab his out of his slot whatever which ones he wants
15:55for a
15:56week he might want a blue one for the week or a white one extra white or black or whatever
16:00so yeah that's pretty much it very very cool wow thank you so much for having us on pleasure to
