00:00To all, this is the end of the Champions League season after this 1-1 score for Bayern Munich.
00:10And now the questions.
00:18Good evening, coach. It wasn't enough to reach the final now.
00:24Where do you see the reasons? A lot of talk about the referee, but what do you think?
00:32First of all, congratulations to PSG.
00:39I think we played on the same level as PSG.
00:49Obviously, these games were always difficult for both sides and it was all about little details.
00:57The last game in Paris, this game as well.
01:01I think that in football and in life in general, you have to look at yourself and what you can
01:11improve on.
01:13And I do have to say that some parts of the game in Paris and here were decisive.
01:29There are these kind of details that can influence the game.
01:37Coach, there are a few scenes that we can maybe talk about.
01:42There was this handball.
01:44I think it's clear that the arm is quite far away from the body.
01:50How did you see it?
01:51Do you think it should have been a second yellow card for Nuno Mendes?
01:56I think we saw you on the bench being quite angry.
02:04I looked at the images three times.
02:07Maybe you saw different images than I did.
02:10But I didn't see any image where Leimer touched the ball with his hand.
02:15Maybe somebody else saw something?
02:18No?
02:20There are 50 people in this room and nobody says that they saw a handball by Leimer.
02:27And I was 10 meters away and I don't think that Connie touched the ball with his hand.
02:35And I think he touched us with his side and it should have been a clear second yellow for Nuno
02:45Mendes.
02:48And then there was a foul against us, awarded to PSG.
02:57This scene can decide a game.
03:01It decided the game.
03:05Then there were the two phases, well there were these situations where there was a penalty against us during the
03:14first leg and then this other situation today.
03:18I do understand the rule.
03:23In the first leg, it was clear that the ball hit Davis' body first and the hand later.
03:32But it was a cross towards the goal.
03:39Is it still a penalty?
03:41I don't know.
03:44Everybody who has played football in their life knows that it's impossible to retract your arm in this kind of
03:52situation.
03:53And everybody who played football knows that this is not the right decision.
03:57And then with the situation today, the arm is all up in the air, the ball touches the arm and
04:07the ball came from a teammate, but this teammate was 10 meters away.
04:15I saw other situations where somebody did it on purpose.
04:21Any handball in the box is not on purpose.
04:34I don't want to take anything away from PSG's performance.
04:39They're a fantastic side.
04:42But it is a fact that we will have differing opinions when it comes to the decisions that were made
04:53by the ref.
04:53And when you lose by one goal, then it's quite disappointing.
05:00And with the team this season, unfortunately, it doesn't help you much at this point.
05:04But what I wanted to ask you is how do you feel about the performance of your team today?
05:10I felt they were a little bit more nervous than otherwise, they were a little bit less dominant maybe than
05:16otherwise.
05:16Was it due to the circumstance?
05:19Was it due to the adversary?
05:21What is your opinion or analysis of this game tonight?
05:24You always have to look at it both ways.
05:28So you saw Paris play a lot of games in the last two years, I guess, right?
05:33You've seen them.
05:35How many times have you seen Paris the way they were today?
05:38You know, so I thought in many ways we disrupted a lot of the pressings normally that they're able to
05:44do.
05:45We arrived in a lot of very, very good positions, so one-on-one against the fullbacks.
05:50We even beat the fullbacks quite a lot of times.
05:53So we were in a lot of positions where on another day we can make the difference.
05:59But, you know, there's a couple of scenes that I have, especially in the first half, where Moussa does two
06:04or three times in a really dangerous spot.
06:06And the shot is maybe not as menacing or as clean as it should be a couple of times.
06:15Lucho gets past his man.
06:17Micah gets past his man.
06:18And then I have to go back and give a lot of credit to Peuge as well.
06:22I thought the defenders defended the cross was fantastic.
06:25Every single time we beat the fullback, the centre-backs made the right decision on which cross they should prioritize.
06:32So it was really difficult for us to put the ball between the goalkeeper and the centre-backs.
06:36It was really difficult for us to play the cutbacks successfully because the midfielders were always there.
06:42It was really difficult for us to play around the box because the midfielders were putting pressure.
06:47But if you've seen Peuge this season, I have to revert the question.
06:51Then it's only about result because it's also not, I'm sure, the way that Peuge will play most of his
06:58games or any of his games,
06:59the way that the game went today.
07:02But they're a top team.
07:05And details, right?
07:08On the link side, the Klaus Bergmann, 3D.
07:12Mr. Kompany, we've seen with many teams that when you have to win the Champions League, it's a long journey.
07:23How convinced are you that in the end this team will win this title?
07:29And could you maybe say what you told the team after the game, in the halftime?
07:41The team knows me well.
07:44They know I don't stay disappointed for long.
07:47I'm already looking towards the next game.
07:52I know how difficult it is to win this title.
07:56And I know how much it depends on details.
08:01I hope that, maybe not that we play better because we already played so well this season,
08:09but that we get better results.
08:13And I hope that the scene that we saw today will go in our favor next season.
08:22And maybe the other coach can say what he feels after the game.
08:28Mr. Kompany, do you still hope that the team will improve next season?
08:34There were a lot of good factors for Bayern this season.
08:39Not that many injuries.
08:40Will Harry Kane be better with being one year older next season?
08:46Manuel Neuer also being older.
08:49How will the setup be next season?
08:53This is not something that we have to discuss now.
09:00I'm convinced that next season we will be one step ahead.
09:07This is my job.
09:11You can't guarantee that you will win the Champions League,
09:15but we definitely are full of conviction
09:20and everything that is concerning team management, squad management.
09:27There need to be other people around the table to discuss these kinds of topics.
09:33Max, Max and Christoph and all the rest of the team will do everything possible
09:39to make the best decisions for a successful Bayern season.
09:43But right now this is not my priority.
09:47I'll do three more questions.
09:50What was the main difference between the first leg and the second?
09:56Why were these games so different?
10:00I think there was also a lot of intensity today.
10:04I think there was also a lot of intensity today.
10:04Both teams were fighting about every ball.
10:10None of the teams had a lot of time when they were in possession.
10:18I think the difference is that both teams took some lessons home after the first game.
10:25In the first leg, both teams were more clinical.
10:30I think a strike from 20 meters can't always be inside the net.
10:38But, yeah, we could have had more dangerous shots.
10:43But we played against a very special team.
10:45When you look at how PSG usually plays,
10:49I think we were able to annoy them quite a bit in their game plan.
10:52I watched all of their Champions League games.
10:56And sometimes they win, sometimes they lose.
10:59But they're always the best team on the pitch.
11:02To date this wasn't the case.
11:04Still, they defended quite well.
11:08And we won a lot of 1v1s.
11:12So I'm not disappointed.
11:14But on the last pass and the shots,
11:18we could have done a bit better.
11:20And they defended very well.
11:22Games are always about details.
11:24And these matchups were fantastic.
11:31So after a qualification against Real Madrid,
11:34you weren't on the overhype around your squad,
11:39what was exactly the thing you were worried about by then?
11:42And did you expect PSG to try to grasp this advantage in the first minute
11:48and then to do it in such a defensive way?
11:55So, believe the hype, don't believe the drama.
11:59So on a day like today, if I'm calm, it's because I can position it.
12:06After Madrid, if I'm calm, it's because I know that days like today can happen as well.
12:13But if the analysis is only in favor of the winner because it's the winner,
12:20then I cannot give you any elements to make the debate interesting.
12:26The only thing I'm saying is that the game was so close
12:30and the game between us and PSG have always been so close.
12:33It's been decided by details, moments of quality.
12:36Plus, in my opinion, we have a totally different idea
12:41on very important decisions that happen in the game.
12:43So the whole context of this is difficult to say that, you know,
12:52it's just we have to recognize how good this team is,
12:56but it's difficult to make a big statement about
12:59this is definitely now what we've learned out of this game,
13:02just that it's really tight between both teams
13:04and that both teams have top players.
13:08Okay, the last one in the middle.
13:16You didn't find the comeback, like the match against Real Madrid?
13:21No, we found the comeback.
13:23It was five minutes too late.
13:27Now, like I said,
13:31I've watched many, many, many games of PSG.
13:35They're a top team, really good team.
13:39But I felt that a lot of the things we did in this game today
13:45disrupted what they normally do.
13:48So normally when they press really high,
13:50it's extremely difficult to get out.
13:52And I thought a lot of times we were able to escape
13:56and actually attack the back line in really good positions.
13:59Sometimes they defended really well with the fullbacks.
14:02Sometimes we beat the fullbacks.
14:03Then the centerbacks came and defended well.
14:05The midfielders came, so it was a little bit of a chain.
14:08And in those moments, they did extremely well,
14:11which prevented us from having more chances.
14:14But we had chances.
14:15So we cannot forget we had chances.
14:20And then if you put the team under pressure
14:23and they make mistakes.
14:26Mistakes can be a foul, like the red card.
14:29Mistakes can be a penalty.
14:31If you put the team under pressure and they make mistakes,
14:33then you've done a lot of good things as well.
14:35But we just never got the decision for it.
14:38So yeah, they're a top team.
14:40Congratulations to them.
14:42And for us, we've enjoyed the fight.
14:47And we will do everything we can to be better again next year.
14:50Thank you very much.
