00:00Daniel Simpson, a solicitor for Watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct,
00:04told an inquest hearing on Tuesday that the body expects to make a decision whether to
00:09proceed with the case by the 31st of July. 24-year-old Chris Carber was fatally shot
00:16in Streatham by Sergeant Martin Blake in September 2022, after he tried to ram his
00:23way past marked and unmarked police cars. Blake was cleared of murder as an Old Bailey trial.
00:30Officers had followed the Audi that Chris was driving because it had been linked to three
00:36previous firearms incidents in five months. They were not aware of his identity at the time,
00:42but Mr Carber was a member of one of London's most violent street gangs and was accused of
00:48being involved in two shootings in the six days before he died. Senior coroner Dr Julian Morris
00:55will also decide in the coming months whether to hold a full inquest into his death. Carber's
01:01relatives want issues, including the medical treatment that he received at the scene,
01:05to be fully examined, as well as the way that the armed police operation that stopped the car
01:10was carried out. After Mr Blake's acquittal, then Home Secretary Yvette Cooper vowed to raise the
01:18legal test used by prosecutors to determine whether to bring charges against police officers over the
01:24use of force, into line with the standard used for members of the public.
