00:00Record crowds made filming on the streets their first big challenge.
00:05A camera hidden in a piano box managed to grab this shot in front of Luna Park
00:11before the unsuspecting crowd recognized Harold.
00:16Shooting inside the park was easier to control.
00:20Harold and Jane ride Luna's airplane ride.
00:24The witching waves.
00:28The famous shooting the chutes.
00:31And the bug ride.
00:33To get some of these shots, the crew had to go along for the rides.
00:40They also captured these splendid nighttime shots of Luna
00:44with its 250,000 electric lights.
00:49At Steeplechase Park, they got on the famous Steeplechase ride.
00:59They could have gone on the brand new Cyclone, which opened on June 26, 1927, just two months before.
01:08Or the seven-year-old Wonder Wheel.
01:11But they didn't.
01:14The other rides, like the double-dip slide,
01:19the revolving drum,
01:21and the human roulette wheel
01:24were filmed at Ocean Park Pier, not far from Los Angeles.
01:36The boardwalk scenes were also shot on the West Coast,
01:40mostly in Venice, California,
01:42where Harold gives himself the finger.
01:45Wait a minute.
01:46Let's see that again.
01:48Yep, it's the finger, all right.
01:51We'll see you next time.
