00:00and so should he be put out of his misery in terms of the future he's done
00:05what was that chance yeah he's doing what and against if you can finish the
00:07season strongly he's gotten a really good habit of winning football matches
00:10which is good out of 40 yeah brilliant yeah fantastic and they can we can sit
00:15here and analyze the game and look at the issues they've got which I'm sure
00:18him and the staff are doing but if you're on that dressing you've won the
00:20game you'll be pleased obviously because that's what he's there to do again the
00:24remit was to get that Champions League he's done it he's the pressure on
00:27everyone at the club and he's gone along nicely is it a different question to
00:31ask you whether you'd like that to happen yeah no I still think and I'm sure you
00:35know they are looking at other options out there but why they're looking at the
00:38options is he's winning football matches and it gives them a hell of a chance of
00:41getting the job are the options falling away is he emerging as not the only
00:48candidate but the outstanding candidate now yeah I mean there's no one being
00:51linked either is there's no one sort of being strongly linked with the job I
00:54think Michael's put himself in pole position because of obviously what he's
00:58done and he's re-established a few things a bit of I think the way the
01:02club are playing in terms of the system of play I think even today it was a bit
01:05Manchester United like going to look into to them when it's you know when it
01:08in a difficult way so the things that I think have emerged on and off the
01:12pitch which I think will give the club sort of comfort that they're in safe
01:15hands and Manchester United need some stability they haven't had a lot of
01:19stability over the last few years and he will bring that from a point of view of the
01:22everybody trusts him fans like him the players obviously like him the club and
01:27the staff will trust him it's just that you know you've talked we just talked
01:30about it on the podcast next year he's gonna have 55 60 games with Champions
01:34League with FA Cup they're not gonna go out in the first round surely and and the
01:37Carabao Cup and then it's all a sort of different level of management different
01:41level of scrutiny it becomes a lot more challenging and it's then has he got the
01:45experience obviously has he got the body of work behind him to rely upon that's
01:48that's the only question I think that I've talked about for a number of months
01:53but you know some people say well why don't you give him a year contract and
01:56let him have a further year just to sort of what we stabilise the club and I don't
01:59think I can argue with that but if a world-class manager became available that
02:04has won titles that has been in the Champions League that's done it and been
02:07there before Manchester United should probably pursue that route because their
02:10last five managers including Michael Oli, Ralf Raniuk, Ruben Amarim and Eric Ten Hag have not got that super
02:16club experience and Michael would be another that's not quite got that these
02:19are these are fans incidentally who are voting on the analysis poll the
02:22Manchester United fans 77% think now he should be the manager next season
02:27whereas only 28% of Liverpool fans think that Arna Schlott should be the manager of
02:33Liverpool so they're gonna take some convincing but what doubts should
02:37remain Daniel do you think from Michael Carrick as he answered them all just the
02:41experience I think I think that's the one thing we can't you know disregard how
02:46well he's done the hardest thing is is to win football matches at big clubs
02:50consistently that's what he's done is one of the most points so the evidence is
02:53there we didn't have evidence we were arguing a poor case aren't we but the
02:57case he's made for himself can't be beaten right now the only question marks you
03:01could really say is okay controlling games last week yes of the juice
03:05halftime he's changing formation is that would you have the answers against Real
03:09Madrid would you have the answers against Bayern Munich PSG teams like that
03:12so tactically you you think there is I'm not saying I didn't say tactics I'm
03:15more so saying that decisions at vital times by vital moments last week it went
03:19right right but in another game they could score two or three and then it's
03:23like hey why did you go free at the back we should have so it's more the
03:26decision-making at right times that's what I think the best managers are great
03:29at they make the right decision at the right time they'd be brave which he's
03:32shown at times but we've not seen in a long you know duration of time we're
03:38seeing this in a microcosm so let's have a look next year if he does get the job
03:41and see what what ideas he can bring to the table I've been I've been enjoying
03:47seeing them play and it's a great opportunity for him and it'll be
03:50interesting this summer United's recruitment we're talking about the
03:52problems at the back and obviously midfield if they get a few players in
03:56United will be stronger and obviously that'll give him a better opportunity to
03:59win more football matches the issue is and again that's not his problem the last few
04:03months has been there's no there's been no jeopardy in Man United's play he had a
04:06agreement to qualify for the Champions League but we're looking at the Premier
04:09League this year it's not been that great and so it's been the perfect storm
04:13for him to come in and get some winning matches he had the dream start playing
04:15beating Man City and Arsenal stuff so he got he got momentum but yeah he's he's
04:20doing what he's been asked to do but it's just that lack of experience again come
04:23next year if he gets it and the people who are praising him now come October
04:27November if they have a bad start or difficult spell they'll be the same people
04:30saying get him out so that's I suppose that's a bridge you cross when you get to it but
04:34he can't do any more I suppose from what you've seen Jamie of the way that he's
04:38shaped this team over these 14 games can he turn them into title contenders no I
04:43don't see it see you thinking that say Michael Carrick's the man to get
04:47Manchester United back to win the Champions League or the Premier League but
04:51but I do feel he should get the job not because he's done so well and he
04:56deserves it Manchester United should do what's best for them as a club but you
05:00think where United have been these last sort of two or three years they haven't
05:03just been a club underachieved and they've been a club getting laughter
05:06really you know finishing 15th last season you know you can't quite
05:09comprehend that now what he's done is just calmed everything down where the
05:13winning games they should win Manchester United should always be in the
05:16Champions League position when you consider how big the club is and the
05:19revenue they spend each summer that's what he's done he's just doing what they
05:22should do probably a little bit more of course you know winning all these big
05:25games and I think Manchester United could do another year of that I don't think
05:29Manchester United in the summer are ready to go and think they're going to
05:31challenge for the Champions League or challenge for the Premier League they
05:34almost need another year of this and I think the risk of changing somebody who
05:40is is not going to cause trouble in the press conference he's not going to fall
05:43out with players he's probably going to be steady but now is steady enough for
05:46Man United I just think for another 12 months it is you kick the can down the
05:50road Remarys are looking for a manager Chelsea are looking for a manager maybe
05:54Man City might be looking for a manager as well and then you assess the
05:57managerial options because right now what you're saying in terms of a big
06:00Champions League manager yes if Luis Enrique comes available tomorrow of
06:04course you do everything you can to get him but who is that man you know I got a
06:08question for Roy and Gary here is next season right because he's got Champions
06:13League this year that was the main focal point that was the most important thing
06:16what would the expectations be next year so if he does get the job what would you
06:21consider or even the fan base what would the fan base consider to be a
06:24successful season you don't have to ask the board what the remit would be would
06:27would they expect him to I think obviously the board made such a poor
06:31decision that with the last decision they're probably frightened of making
06:33another big mistake yeah so maybe Carrick is that safe pair of hands but
06:38surely anyone who gets the job next year would be expecting to compete to win the
06:44the journey that sort of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and Mikel at Arsenal which
06:47whether he'll finish with a Premier League title but they have progressed and
06:50looking like they're getting closer every year for a few years before they
06:53finally went and won it it would need to be progression wouldn't it beyond what
06:57what we're seeing now was that the basis of that not a one-year contract but
07:00that's this guy is our guy for six years and we're going to stick with him
07:03regardless look I'll be adamant Manchester United won't go and do that six-year
07:06thing that would just be absolutely laughter I mean you know two years three years maybe
07:10because obviously that doesn't seem like a commitment what's the point with what
07:14Jamie's argument was that you just you don't go and find that that that sort of
07:18the world-class manager you stick with this which is safe and solid is that what
07:22but I mean I didn't know I mentioned that you can't go and win the title I
07:25mentioned a name like a couple of weeks ago Nagelsmann right so I don't know
07:27anything about Nagelsmann from a point of view of doing due diligence on him to
07:30see whether he'll be the right fit for Manchester United but he's been at RP
07:33Leipzig which is an incredible coaching ground he's obviously done well at
07:36Bayern Munich he's obviously won things he's now managing Germany in an
07:40tournament he's got he's got a body of experience over ten years that says this
07:43guy has worked in an elite environment now if he becomes available after the
07:47World Cup as an example could he be the person and what I do say about the
07:51Premier League title and I think it is to be fair far-fetched that Manchester United
07:54will win it next season or the year after but I do think at that point when Pep
07:58leaves or at that point where they get maybe if they were to be charged with
08:02some of the more serious offenses and got some points deduction it would be up for
08:05grabs properly in the next 12 to 18 months the Premier League title and at the
08:09moment all I said on the podcast which he laughed at was that Liverpool aren't quite
08:12there right now Chelsea aren't quite there right now Newcastle aren't there
08:16and now Tottenham aren't quite there so Arsenal are but if City were to obviously
08:19dip who's going to step in and be that club that emerges out of that now my view
08:25is you've got to appoint a manager that you think has the ability to exploit that
08:30moment now I don't know if that's Michael Carrick or whether that's Nagelsmann or
08:33whether that's Pochettino or whether that's going to you know someone but I'm not doing the
08:37due diligence I'm not going around saying who's the best person to get it right
08:40but that's what they have to be looking at who's there to go and exploit the
08:43sense of the situation
