00:00Hey, this is Patton Oswalt. Welcome back to Trailers from Hell.
00:04Thank you for briefly pausing your doomscrolling and watching a quick commentary about a very dark, doomy...
00:12I guess you're still doomscrolling.
00:13Hey, this is about 2024's hidden, forgotten masterpiece, Dead Mail.
00:20I don't know if this movie even got to be screened anywhere. I know it went to some festivals.
00:24This is a creepy, moody, kind of cosmic horror movie set in the early 1980s at a small post office's
00:39dead letter division.
00:41And man, was I in the right mood for this movie. I loved every frame of it.
00:46It basically does a whole riff on the Lovecraftian weird forbidden document that leads you into darkness and weirdness.
00:54And it features an incredible central performance by Thomas Boykin, who plays Jasper, the dead letter officer at the post
01:04office,
01:04who is obsessed and determined to track down this mysterious note for help that comes across his desk.
01:13And I won't spoil much more of it than that.
01:20I believe I am mislabeled package. I wonder what course of action I could take.
01:25Director and writer Joe DeBauer, Boer, I'm sure I'm, I'm sure I mispronounced it twice.
01:32Um, does such an amazing job capturing, uh, the time and place that this movie is set in, almost to
01:40a fault.
01:40Some of the, um, sets and cinematography are so grim and so you, you, if you were alive in the
01:48early 80s,
01:48you remember how badly colored everything was and how awful the font was.
01:53Um, absolutely fantastic from the first frame with the last go and track down dead mail.
02:01Don't leave me.
02:03It delivers.
02:08You, you want me to leave? Okay, I'll leave. I'll leave.
02:10Yeah, this is my last one.
02:11You, you, you, you, you.
