A local hospice is getting the public ready to go on a bear hunt.

Ellenor will host an art trail in July, where Dartford residents can spot bear sculptures created by artists throughout the summer.

The bears will then be auctioned in September to raise vital funds for the charity.

Henry Luck reports.

00:00Blue Water Shopping Centre is inviting the public on a bear hunt.
00:07Eleanor, a local hospice that supports adults and children with life-limiting conditions,
00:15has offered a sneak peek of bear sculptures by artists and sponsors
00:21that will form part of its first-of-a-kind art trial across Dartford,
00:28inspired by the children's classic storybook, We're Going On A Bear Hunt.
00:34The bear behind me is Mark Whitehouse's Shine On.
00:40Its ability to reflect life is symbolic of inspiring hope as it raises money for Eleanor.
00:49It's a great turnout tonight. I'm really pleased.
00:52That opportunity to talk to our sponsors and the artists about the bear hunt and the art trail
00:58that will be across Dartford and across Blue Water too.
01:02But also, it's that opportunity to talk about Eleanor and the huge impact we have on our local community.
01:08Another artist, who's a game designer, was excited to take on the challenge.
01:15Yeah, I really enjoyed doing it because, like I said, I haven't painted in 20 years.
01:19So, going back to that physical media was really enjoyable.
01:22Having something that, like, actually changed as you painted with it and the way it moved
01:25when you were actually moving it onto the bear
01:27and dealing with that, like, physicality of, like, actually having to mask stuff out
01:31and wait for things to dry, there was, like, a meditative, like, part of it, really.
01:36And, obviously, the bear going on sale, going to auction and raising money for Eleanor is always great.
01:41So, I'm really excited for it to be out in the world for people to see it
01:44and then for it to raise money for a good cause.
01:46This exhibit is just a taste of what's to come
01:49as there are going to be over 80 bears taking part.
01:54We have chosen and briefed, basically, the artists to work with us on a health and well-being bar.
02:01So, our bear is not here tonight. We're going to unveil it a little bit later.
02:06But, it is a bear that will get all the families and the people that do the trail really engaged
02:11because they can look at all the designs and get little stories, little messages.
02:17Eleanor and the public can barely wait for the art trial to begin on the 17th of July.
