03:16But Swiss authorities told us that the fire's victims and their families
03:19are not expected to pay for treatment.
03:22They added that the documents they received were not itemized bills,
03:25but informational copies issued under Swiss law.
03:28But although the victims and their families do not have to pay,
03:31Italy's healthcare system might.
03:32The Swiss Federal Social Insurance Office says the case falls under long-standing European rules
03:38on cross-border healthcare.
03:39And this is true.
03:41Under these rules, EU-insured patients treated in Swiss hospitals had their costs covered.
03:46These are then billed to the patient's home insurer.
03:48In this case, that would be Italy's public health system.
