RESCUING A FIDDLER RAY AT LOW TIDE
WITH VID
BY SALONI MATHUR
Watch a beached fiddler ray being rescued by locals.
William Gladstone, a Marine biologist from Australia was out on a walk when he spotted a stranded fiddler ray.
A low tide had carried the fiddler ray towards the beach and the poor ray had become stranded in shallow water.
William and his colleague Adam realised that the water would soon dry out completely, and the ray would probably die in the hot sun.
Adam gently picked the ray up carried her to deeper water, and released her where she could swim back to the shelter of the seagrass meadow.
William said: “Her stranding was a natural accident, but the ocean has been changed a lot by unsustainable human use.
“Intervening and saving this ray was a small but practical contribution to the health of the ocean.”
