And to close things out, we look at the report that Fourth Dimension Video went bankrupt after completing only one episode of Huanhuan Shaonü, with claims that the production was crushed by extreme workload demands and an unsuccessful AI-assisted recovery attempt.

00:00We're kicking things off with a franchise that's literally rising from the grave.
00:04More than 15 years after the original anime aired,
00:08High School of the Dead is returning with a new browser game titled Day Zero,
00:12set to officially launch on April 28, 2026.
00:17For those unfamiliar with the series,
00:19it follows Takashi Komuro and a group of students from Fujimi High School
00:24as they struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies.
00:30The game will be a free-to-play tower defense strategy title,
00:34featuring brand new art created from scratch for the project
00:37and unlockable alternate outfits for characters like Psycho and Rei.
00:42Moving on to anime premieres, we have great news for Isekai fans.
00:48A new trailer has been released confirming that the second season of Skeleton Knight in Another World
00:53will premiere in July of this year.
00:56Ark, our favorite skeleton in golden armor,
01:00returns to Japanese television with new characters,
01:03more political intrigue,
01:04and a revamped production team led by Katsumi Ono at Aura Studio.
01:10Now let's turn to some slightly more serious issues within the community.
01:14It turns out that Square Enix has begun massively removing erotic Dugenshi
01:18from digital sales platforms in Japan,
01:21such as Fanza, primarily affecting works featuring Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy.
01:28The main catalyst for this strict legal crackdown is artificial intelligence.
01:33Historically, the company tolerated non-commercial content drawn by fans,
01:38but the recent wave of users generating comics with AI to make massive profits
01:43crossed the line into piracy for the company.
01:46This has divided the otaku community.
01:49Some lament the loss of content,
01:52while others defend the measures,
01:54criticizing those who monetize machine-generated art using characters that don't belong to them.
02:00In another recent controversy,
02:03the anime Kamina Botan,
02:05a slice-of-life comedy with Yuri elements
02:07that follows the laid-back daily lives of high school girls
02:11and their encounters with alcohol,
02:13caused quite a stir with its third episode.
02:16Viewers noticed such a drastic and stylized change in animation
02:20that they labeled it a Sakuga collapse,
02:24due to a lack of budget.
02:25However, hey!
02:27The creator of the original work issued a statement defending the studio.
02:31He clarified that there was no shortage of money or time,
02:35but rather that it was a 100% intentional artistic decision by the director.
02:41As a short 12-episode series,
02:43this risky visual experiment sharply divided public opinion
02:47between those who appreciated the creativity
02:50and those for whom it completely broke the immersion.
02:53To wrap things up,
02:54we have some rather grim news from the Chinese animation industry.
02:59The studio Fourth Dimension Video has filed for bankruptcy
03:02and shut its doors for good
03:04after managing to produce only the first episode of its series,
03:08Huanhuan Xiaonu.
03:09This project was a slice-of-life story
03:12featuring Japanese schoolgirls with silver hair,
03:15a highly risky venture for a Chinese market
03:18that typically consumes pure fantasy and martial arts.
03:22The bankruptcy occurred because the producers' demands were unrealistic.
03:26They requested over 12,000 frames be drawn for a single comedy episode,
03:32subjecting them to as many as six rounds of revisions.
03:35When they ran out of money,
03:37they tried to save the project by using artificial intelligence for animation,
03:41but the quality was unsustainable and production collapsed,
03:45leaving the animators unemployed and with unpaid wages.
03:48And that's it for today's video.
03:50What do you think of Square Enix's stance
03:53or the sad closure of the Chinese studio?
