00:00Often times, competitive sports can feel like being thrown in at the deep end, especially
00:04if you're young.
00:05So to help Medway's youth swimmers not feel too out of their depth, Duncan Scott, the
00:10most decorated British Olympic swimmer, has come to give advice, tips and sign a few swim
00:14camps as well.
00:16He's a part of AP Races clinics that aim to improve the standard of swimming all across
00:20age groups around the country.
00:22And with his visit to the Kent Leisure Centre, he's hoping to not just instruct, but inspire
00:26a new generation of swimmers as well.
00:28Yeah, look, it's really cool to come here.
00:30You know, I've done a lot in Scotland, you know, being the Learn to Swim ambassador and,
00:33you know, going the length and breadth of Scotland and opening places and, you know, learn to
00:39swim is something that I think is so vital, but doing it in a slightly different location
00:44and more of kind of evolved around in racing and learning different techniques and things
00:50like that, it's, yeah, it's been great fun.
00:53And the kids have been so responsive to either technical changes or just in general, just
00:58having so much fun.
00:59So it's been good to see them learning, but then also doing it with a smile on their face
01:03as well.
01:04But there's plenty that goes on outside of the pool as well.
01:07They have their strength and conditioning and even a psychological prep session, making
01:11sure that they're well equipped to be able to handle the intensity of such a competitive
01:14sport.
01:15And it's not just the young people learning, but the parents as well.
01:18They have a private session with instructors where they can learn how best to support their
01:22child going through the sport.
01:24The AP swim clinic, we have also got other instructors, they brought the whole team and
01:29they are doing other sorts of like psychological sessions as well as how the team around the
01:34child can really support the child to motivate and, you know, propel them towards higher goals.
01:40I think that's such fantastic message as well.
01:43And we do look forward to meeting Duncan later on to see his gold medal as well because I've
01:49heard that he's brought it along with himself as well.
01:51Rather than think of a competition as sink or swim, the idea of having an experienced Olympic
01:56level swimmer like Duncan at Medway Park is to help these young athletes improve their
02:00speed while also taking care of themselves.

02:05I'm gonna say that we have a really great week.
02:06Good.
