00:03India is currently the hottest place on earth.
00:06It is official and it is a tough one to hear.
00:10Recent data shows that out of the 20 hottest cities in the world right now, 19 of them
00:17are right here in India.
00:18From Bihar to Odisha, the country has become the epicenter of a massive global heat surge.
00:24We are seeing temperatures easily crossing that dangerous 40 degree mark and for many
00:31of us, it is only getting started.
00:40So who is at the top of the list?
00:43Bhaagalpur in Bihar, Talcher in Odisha and Asansol in West Bengal are currently tied up for the
00:51hottest spot on the planet, all hitting a blistering 44 degrees Celsius.
00:56Close behind them are cities like Motihari, Munger and Siwan at 43 degrees.
01:04To give you some perspective, the only city not in India to make the top 20 was Lumbini
01:10over in Nepal.
01:11This is not just a local heat wave, it is a total atmospheric takeover.
01:23You might be wondering why it is hitting us so hard this year.
01:28Meteorologists say it is a combination of things.
01:31We have had crystal clear skies, which sounds nice but it means that the sun is baking the
01:38ground without any cloud cover to stop it.
01:41On top of that, there was less snow than usual in the Himalayas this winter.
01:46Without that, white snow to reflect the sun's rays back into space.
01:51The land is just soaking up all the extra heat.
02:01There is also the wind to blame.
02:03Dry, dusty winds from the North-West are sweeping across the plains, drying everything out and
02:10stopping any rain from forming.
02:12While some parts of the South and North-East are getting lucky with thunderstorms, the rest
02:18of the country is stuck in what feels like a giant furnace.
02:22Experts say this clustering of extreme heat is a clear sign that our climate is becoming
02:29more unpredictable and much more intense.
02:38Looking ahead, the weather office says we are not out of the woods yet.
02:43Heatwave conditions are expected to stick around through the end of April, with temperatures
02:49likely hovering around 43 degrees in most areas.
02:53It is going to be a challenging few weeks before any pre-monsoon rain finally brings relief.
03:00Stay safe, keep drinking water and try to stay out of the sun during the peak hours.
03:11Heatwave conditions are expected to become the most тогда- effort.
