00:12An Ice Age Dark Ride was almost built at Six Flags.
00:16Here's everything we know about this cancelled project.
00:18This Ice Age Ride was going to be released practically at the peak of the Ice Age movie
00:22franchise, a little bit after the third movie was released, Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
00:26In fact, it looks like the ride would have been based on the third movie and features
00:30some of your favorite characters like Sid, Manford, Diego, Crash, and Eddie.
00:34The entrance to this ride just looks perfect.
00:36I can imagine myself in the movie upon entering this building.
00:39It was going to be a 4D attraction meaning guests would have to wear 3D glasses.
00:43Other effects may have included scents in the ride, mist, wind, and other elements.
00:48The ride would be a mix of screens and physical animatronics.
00:51An example of this is Scrat, the very cute saber-toothed squirrel from the film.
00:55He would have a physical animatronic of him standing on his acorn with ice cracking around
01:00it.
01:00Guests would then most likely transition to a screen nearby where they can watch him fall
01:04into this water surrounded by piranhas.
01:06There would be four different themed zones in this ride, the largest of which would be
01:10ice themed, then shortly after that a volcano section, then a water section, followed by
01:15what could be a beach section due to its color.
01:18In total there would be 10 show scenes for this ride.
01:20The ride was going to be 700 feet in track length.
01:23Take guests 3 minutes to complete and have 15 vehicles.
01:26Each vehicle would hold 6 guests and the theoretical hourly ride capacity of this would have been
01:311,440 people.
01:33In terms of riders per hour, that would be a fantastic ride at Six Flags parks which usually
01:38have rides under 1,100 riders per hour.
01:41So why did Six Flags want to build a family ride?
01:43Well, this happened when Mark Shapiro was head of Six Flags.
01:46He wanted to make the chain of parks more family friendly.
01:48He had already worked with Legacy Entertainment on two other huge family hits, the Glow in
01:52the Park parades and Monster Mansion at Six Flags over Georgia.
01:56And he is once again in talks with Legacy Entertainment to create this new Ice Age ride.
02:01But in 2010 he and his team were replaced when the company faced bankruptcy, which caused the
02:06Ice Age ride to be cancelled.
02:07This Ice Age ride would have been a game changer for the Six Flags chain of parks, drawing in
02:12more and more families.
02:13Do you think Six Flags should revisit adding this ride in their parks?
02:16Even though the Ice Age franchise is old, I still think this ride would be a hit.
02:20Let me know down below your thoughts on this ride.
02:23Be sure to follow me to learn about more cancelled theme park rides like this one.
02:26Right.
02:27Yeah.
02:30Well.
02:31The Ice Age.
02:31It's harder.
02:31Go.
