00:00So when we talk about HPV, then we start thinking about the vaccination.
00:05So there's several vaccines that's available in the market.
00:07There's one that protect one strain, two strains, four strains, and nine strains of HPV.
00:20So obviously, the higher the number of strains it covers,
00:25the better the protections against high-risk HPV and low-risk HPV and also the reductions of cancer.
00:34We all know that this vaccine is particularly effective in women,
00:38and that can be up to 97% protection after 10 years of vaccination with zero conversion.
00:46But is this equally effective in men? Let's find out.
00:50In fact, after nine months of injections of the vaccine,
00:54men can raise 97% zero conversion.
00:58And after 10 to 14 years, that zero conversion maintained around 90% and above.
01:05So therefore, the answer is definitely yes,
01:09men also raise the equal amount of zero conversion when they receive the vaccination.
01:15The other argument of men perhaps don't need any protection
01:19is because there is such thing called a herd immunity.
01:23So many countries are depending on women to get the vaccine,
01:27and therefore, protection probably is good for the actual women itself,
01:34and then will protect the men too.
01:36Let's look at a scenario where about maybe 60% of women are protected,
01:42then you get equal amount of about 70% of herd immunity protection for both men and women.
01:49But if you increase the actual protection by 80% for women,
01:57then you raise the protection for women by about 90% and men by about 90%.
02:04But if you raise the protection by 80% for both gender,
02:09which is a condition called gender neutral vaccination,
02:14then elimination rate is nearly 100% for women and 99% for men.
02:20So there's a saying during COVID that everyone is not protected until everybody is vaccinated.
02:26In fact, the same theory applies here.
02:29If we only rely on the herd vaccination, herd immunity,
02:34then you realize that many people will be the collateral damage
02:38that they're not protected by this herd immunity.
02:41So one of the things that we talked about in the last episodes
02:44is about the actual vaccinations.
02:48And one of the most common vaccine is rubella.
02:51And how was rubella used in order to avoid women getting infertility?
02:57And why was the vaccination successful, but not so successful initially?
03:03If you want to find out, stay tuned for next week's Putting Dr. G on the Spot.
