00:00Right, welcome to Back or Banish, where I shine a spotlight on some forgotten golf club designs
00:05and decide whether I want to bring them back or banish them for good.
00:08And first up, it's a biggie. We're starting with white drivers.
00:11Now, if you had a white driver back in the day, let me know in the comments.
00:14Now, this was the very first one. This was the TaylorMade R11 back in 2011.
00:20And obviously, the thinking behind the design was that sharp contrast between the white crown
00:26and the black face gave you really vivid alignment assistance.
00:29And it definitely worked. There's no question about it.
00:32I never had a white driver back in the day, but it was instantly recognisable on tour.
00:36A lot of big names put them in play. Dustin Johnson, Jason Day at the time, who were TaylorMade players,
00:41put them in play, started with the R11. It went on to the R15.
00:45Again, both of these drivers were absolutely fantastic. R15 had those split weights.
00:49Then we had the R1 driver. It also translated into rocket balls.
00:52We had fairy woods hybrids. So this was a colour scheme that was around for a good few years.
00:58Unfortunately, died a death. And I think that was because of that cosmetic damage that sometimes happened.
01:03If you're a little bit of an inconsistent ball strike and you caught it a little bit high on the
01:07face,
01:07you got these little scratch marks on the top, which obviously didn't look the best.
01:11It wasn't a problem for tour players, but for us amateurs, I think we sort of struggled to keep that
01:16crown looking pristine.
01:17So that was maybe why it didn't last as long as it could have done.
01:20But for me, I would absolutely bring back the white driver. I think they look really cool.
01:24And if you want to get your hands on a little bit of nostalgia, you can still get a white
01:27driver here at Golf Clubs for Cash.
01:28This one, this R11, is only £90. It's in pretty decent nick.
01:33And if you struggle with your alignment, it may be well worth a go.
