00:00Hello, to the Totnes Times. I want to write a short letter to the Totnes Times. I am Susanna
00:10Griffith. I am 85 with Parkinson's and bone fractures in my spine and my legs. And I am
00:21choosing to go to Switzerland to end my life. That is because these things are not available
00:27to me in England. There have been some recordings made about me at this time. I'm hoping that
00:36you can make a letter, a brief letter into the Totnes Times so that other people can hear
00:46me or read what I have to say about the need for us to have the ability in this country
00:55to take care of these matters and not have to spend lots of money that many people do
01:01not have and go through the difficulty of having to go to another country in order to end one's
01:09life because of severe pain. I am having to deal with these things in a country which does
01:18not allow people to be recognized as worth helping. At this time, I am 85 years old and we don't
01:29have any way that I can get what I need in this country. I have to go to Switzerland and
01:37luckily
01:38I have the money to do it. A lot of people couldn't possibly have the money to go and provide
01:44somebody
01:45to accompany me to Switzerland. It's criminal that there are so many people like me, not exactly
01:54the same situation, but different situations equally bad or worse than mine. And it's criminal
02:02that we don't have it in our country. We are behind other countries. Of course, we must
02:08get there and I hope that we will. That's my wish for healthcare in England to take care
02:17of the elderly and the people with pain. And so, as in my case, help us so that we don't
02:28have to go to Switzerland to end our lives when we need to do that. Thank you.
