​A new funding bill in the US Congress could see Taiwan receive hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid next year. It comes amid concerns that the war with Iran could affect Washington's ability to respond to a potential conflict in the Taiwan Strait.

00:00The U.S. could soon provide more than half a billion U.S. dollars in military aid to Taiwan.
00:06That's as Congress begins announcing its budget plans for next year.
00:10On Thursday, the House Appropriations Committee released its 2027 funding bill for national security,
00:17the State Department, and related programs.
00:19It proposed no less than 500 million U.S. dollars in foreign military funding for Taiwan,
00:25with arms deliveries topping its priority list.
00:39The bill also says that none of the funds may be used to produce maps
00:43that inaccurately depict Taiwan's territorial boundaries or misrepresent its social and economic systems.
00:50This is an issue that has surfaced before,
00:53after U.S. materials once mistakenly labeled Taiwan as part of China.
00:58This comes as the Wall Street Journal reports that the U.S. has burned through large stockpiles of munitions in
01:04the Iran War.
01:05This raises concerns among some officials that it may not be able to help defend Taiwan
01:10if China launches an invasion in the near term.
