00:00The Cannes Film Festival awarded a Palme d'Or 63 years late.
00:04And if you've followed all my videos, you know that 63 years ago, it was the grand prix.
00:09Every day, I make a video about the Cannes Film Festival until Dailymotion invites me to
00:13Cannes Film Festival.
00:14I'm waiting for you!
00:15In 1939, Cannes was to host its very first edition.
00:18Everything was ready, the selection existed, the films were there, the festival was about to be born.
00:23And then history crushed everything.
00:24On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland.
00:27The war begins and the Cannes Film Festival is stopped before it even really exists.
00:32The first Cannes in history becomes a ghost festival.
00:35It's not a failure, it's not a bad edition, it's an event that has been
00:38swallowed up by the war.
00:39And for more than 60 years, this 1939 edition remained like an unfinished story.
00:45Then, in 2002, Cannes decided to return to that moment which had been erased.
00:49The festival is organizing a tribute to the 1939 selection, and is re-releasing several films from that era, including The Wizard of
00:56Oz.
00:56And finally chose to give a winner to this edition which had never been able to reach its conclusion.
01:01The prize is awarded to Union Pacifique by Cécile B. Démille.
01:04So yes, a film received the Palme d'Or in 1939 in 2002.
01:08Let me know in the comments if you knew this, and most importantly, subscribe!
