Nigeria’s jet fuel shortage is being driven by disruptions at the Strait of Hormuz that have curtailed global supplies of middle distillates, a fuel marketers’ group said, squeezing airlines already grappling with soaring costs.

00:02Nigeria's jet fuel shortage is being driven by disruptions at the Strait of Hormuz,
00:06tightening global supplies and raising costs for airlines.
00:10The Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria said reduced flows of middle distillates,
00:15such as jet fuel and diesel through the Key Route,
00:18have made supplies scarcer and more expensive worldwide.
00:21Because of the challenges at the Strait of Hormuz,
00:26the products that normally pass through there are diesel and jet A1.
00:33That is the bulk of the product, what we call the middle distillates.
00:37The challenges with closing the Straits or limiting the products passing through the Straits,
00:42those Straits of Hormuz, is that that product, jet A1 and gas oil, are not available.
00:52Nigerian airlines have temporarily suspended a planned shutdown following a government appeal,
00:57but warned the pause is short-lived ahead of talks on April 22.
01:02The airline operators of Nigeria said jet fuel prices have surged 270% since late February.
