00:00okay my name is rabbi yehuda black i'm the rabbi of united um of kenton united synagogue
00:07i was phoned up by my by my chairman the general of my community ruth topper
00:11to uh to tell me about this and uh she phoned me about one o'clock um but it happened
00:17at 11 30
00:17apparently i was very upset to hear about what was happening i'm sure it's a synagogue it's a
00:24beautiful synagogue um it's it's it's a gem of the united synagogue it's a gem of of uh of the
00:31united kingdom as it's a beautiful synagogue and it would be it would have been um it's so unfortunate
00:38that that it's been damaged in such a way attacks on jewish sites in london have been condemned as
00:45abhorrent by christian leaders who offered their solidarity with all those affected during what
00:51has been described as a deeply distressing time it came as chief rabbi sir from mirvis said the
00:58latest in a series of recent incidents meant a sustained campaign of violence and intimidation
01:04against the jewish community of the uk is gathering momentum the london college of bishops said the
01:11targeting of any religious or faith community through violence hatred and intimidation corrodes
01:18the foundations of a diverse and peaceful society the latest official figures on hate
01:24crime recorded by police in england and wales showed jewish people had the highest rate of religious
01:30hate crimes targeted towards them than any other faith group well i hope they don't i hope they don't
01:37that's number one um i am concerned but i think as a jewish community we are undeterred we are still
01:44going to come to the synagogue i mean we're not going to come to this particular synagogue at the
01:47moment because it's closed but it will be closed it'll be open in a few days hopefully um but um
01:53we
01:54aren't in turn this morning um we founded a different venue and we had we had prayers and and to
02:00us this
02:01is the most important thing we've got to continue uh you know we've suffered thousands of years of
02:06anti-semitism and um and um this is just another blip um and i just want to say we we
02:14as as usual we just
02:16continue as being jews i think it's the most important thing i don't have too much information
02:20all i know was that we have a medical room which is just next to the synagogue and apparently a
02:26fire
02:26bomb or something was thrown into that and it caused a fire um a a fire um that that room
02:34has been badly
02:35damaged but the rest of the synagogue thank god as far as i know it has not been damaged which
02:40to me is
02:40something very very important i think they've been very reactive mean to say when things have happened
02:45um they have done some fantastic work for example with the ambulances it was lovely to know to hear
02:52that they were able to replace those those ambulances within 24 hours
02:56you
