Teacake and Naomi run nights at a self-storage facility on an old US military base. Their biggest challenge should be late payments and the occasional “I lost my key” meltdown. Then the sealed bottom level decides to stop being sealed. Out comes a parasitic fungus that was locked away by the government decades ago. It’s highly contagious, it mutates fast, and it doesn’t just hurt bodies. It messes with minds. Real tidy, right?

As the underground heats up, the thing multiplies and spreads like it’s trying to speedrun the end of humanity. Suddenly, the job becomes containing an invisible threat that turns ordinary people into something else entirely.

To make it worse, a retired bioterror agent gets pulled back in. Because of course the solution to a fungal apocalypse is “trust the washed-up pro.” Cold Storage keeps the claustrophobia tight and lets the nightmare do what nightmares do.

Teacake und Naomi arbeiten nachts in einem Selfstorage-Laden auf einem ehemaligen US-Militärgelände. Klingt nach harmloser Büroarbeit. Bis aus der versiegelten untersten Ebene plötzlich ein Pilz hochkriecht. Nicht nur „bäh“. Eher hochinfektiös, schnell mutierend und dabei so dreist, dass er Menschen und andere Lebewesen auf Horror-Mode schaltet. Und der Clou: Je wärmer der Untergrund wird, desto mehr wächst das Problem.

Als ein pensionierter Bioterror-Agent auftaucht (grau, müde, aber offensichtlich immer noch gefährlich), wird aus der Nachtschicht ein Improvisations-Plan gegen etwas, das eher wie ein Systemupdate als wie ein Monster funktioniert. Cold Storage ist weniger „Monsterfilm mit Witz“, mehr „Industrie-Panik in Silageform“. Nebenbei fragt man sich, wie oft Menschen sowas normalerweise einfach abgeben.
