00:00Opportunity to win Olympic titles come around very, very rarely and I was fortunate enough in 1988 when I won
00:09my silver medal, I was an up-and-coming athlete, I was all excitable and I thought that in four
00:15years time I'd be at the pinnacle, which I was. At 25, I was in the best physical shape of
00:21my life.
00:23But when you're so good, you've got to remember the job's not done until the job is done. And in
00:31Barcelona, I ran an incredibly quick time in the qualifying round, the very first race, and I just really felt
00:40that that would be enough.
00:41So I did nothing else. And I ended up injuring my left oblique. That ended my dream, really, of becoming
00:48the Olympic champion. And so I was annoyed with myself. I didn't have the opportunity again.
00:54Four years later, I was injured. So I ran, but I couldn't run up to form. Another four years after
01:02that, I was injured again. And so you can never count anything on anything.
01:09When you have the opportunity, you've got to take it. If you don't, you may never have it again.
