“The Running Man” turns a game show into a long-form execution with branding. Contestants called Runners get 30 days to stay alive while “hunters” hunt them down, and the whole thing streams to a crowd that treats violence like entertainment. Survive another day, earn more money. Because apparently the only thing more valuable than empathy is prize money.
Ben Richards is not doing this for fun. He’s stuck in the working-class grind and needs help for his sick daughter, so Dan Killian, the show producer with the charming smile and the ruthless agenda, convinces him to step into the slaughter.
Here’s the twist the system doesn’t like. Ben’s stubborn survival instincts make him a surprise fan favorite. And fan favorites become threats when millions of people are trained to watch someone fail. Now Ben has to outsmart the hunters and deal with an entire nation rooting for his downfall like it’s a sport.
It’s bleak, loud, and intentionally gross in the way only a bad idea dressed as TV can be.

Der Publikumsliebling kommt diesmal nicht aus der Jury. Er kommt aus dem Notausgang. „The Running Man“ macht aus einer TV-Show eine 30-Tage-Lotterie mit Todesgarantie: Runner müssen überleben, während Profikiller hinter ihnen her sind und alles live gefressen wird. Tag für Tag gibt’s mehr Geld. Klingt nach Sozialkritik? Ist eher Zuschauer-Sadismus mit Kassenbon-Logik.
Ben Richards spielt die arme Socke mit Krankheits-Dringlichkeit. Seine kranke Tochter ist der Grund, warum er sich in die Sendung locken lässt. Dan Killian verkauft das als Chance, aber er meint das nur als Quote.
Und natürlich wird Ben zum Problem. Nicht nur für seine Jäger, sondern für das ganze System. Wer Spaß an großen, schmutzigen Ideen hat, die sich wie ein Action-Bumerang zurückdrehen, bekommt hier eine ziemlich üble Dauer-Attraktion.
