Stevie and her little brother Elliot don’t go looking for meaning. They go looking for a better family. Their solution? Jump into their own dream world and ask the Sandman for it. And yes, the movie actually commits to the rules of dreams, meaning nothing behaves like it should. Logic is optional. Time is a suggestion. Conversations happen like they’re pulled from a hat, then somehow still land.

What’s interesting is that the absurdity never feels random for long. Under the weird visuals and “wait, what?” scenes, there’s a clear emotional engine: wanting connection, wanting stability, wanting someone to finally fit. It’s the kind of story that uses surreal imagery as a shortcut to real feelings.

Rotten Tomatoes is glowing, Metascore is more skeptical. Translation: smart and imaginative, but not engineered for everyone. If you’re in the mood for dream logic with a pulse, give it a shot.

Also springen sie in die Welt, die ihr Kopf nachts zusammenbaut, und ziehen da los, um den Sandmann um die perfekte Familie zu bitten. Klingt süß. Ist es auch. Aber der Film nimmt diese Prämisse so ernst, wie man eben nur träumen kann. Hier werden Logik und Zeit zu Deko. Begegnungen fühlen sich an wie „Okay, das ist gerade passiert“-Momente, und trotzdem trägt das Ganze eine echte Sehnsucht in der Tasche: Familie, die man sich wünscht, statt die man „halt so“ bekommt.

Der Rotten-Tomatoes-Wert ist hoch, der Metascore eher trocken. Heißt: launig, kreativ, nicht immer geschniegelt. Wenn du Lust auf Traum-Unsinn mit Herz hast, wirst du dich ziemlich schnell zuhause fühlen.
