00:00The internet has deemed 2026 the new 2016, so let's take a look through Living Etc's design archives to see
00:06what decorating trends we were loving back then and which ones we're still doing today.
00:11First up, 70s decor. Now the 70s have had a huge influence on design in the past year.
00:15Think moody color palettes with aubergines and burgundies, conversational seating, and more recently, the revival of disco ball decor.
00:23Today, we're seeing disco ball decor in elevated tile variations, but it still looks like we're loving them as much
00:29as we were in 2016.
00:30Next, I was surprised to see artist marks as a trend in 2016. What is that?
00:34Well, today you may know it as the drawn-on decor trend. Think Kendall Jenner's custom-bowed sofa and embroidered
00:39tablecloths with bistro doodles.
00:41Where 2016 artist marks were bolder, higher contrast, higher saturation, today the trend is more of an antidote to the
00:49digital world.
00:49Think folkier, more delicate, hand-drawn aesthetics.
00:52Lastly, both 2016 and 2026 share a love for all things pattern. Pattern drenching, pattern clashing, and especially decorating with
01:00florals.
01:01Those palm leaves and tropical prints may have to stay in 2016 for now, but things like patterned sofas are
01:06definitely back in style.
01:08We may not be ready for a full 2016 revival just yet, but there is some comfort in knowing the
01:13kinship of design eras past.
