00:00We are announcing that for the first time in a decade we're updating the school food standards
00:03to make sure that they're in line with the latest nutritional guidance.
00:06This is something which parents are calling for.
00:09Eight in ten are worried about the quality of school food.
00:12It's something which is necessary for children's health.
00:14One in three children are leaving primary school overweight or obese.
00:19You know, tooth decay is the leading cause of hospital admission for young children.
00:23And we know that the quality of the food you eat really affects how you feel in school and how
00:26you learn.
00:27So we're making some simple changes to keep familiar food on children's plates
00:31but to reduce the amount of sugar that they're eating, increase the amount of fibre
00:35and cut out some of the most unhealthy foods like deep fried foods for example.
