From the career Grand Slam to winning consecutive Masters titles, Rory McIlroy reflects on his Augusta journey
Transcript
00:00I thought it was so difficult to win last year because of trying to win the Masters
00:05and the Grand Slam, and then this year I realized it's just really difficult to win the Masters.
00:12I tried to convince myself it was both, but yeah, just incredible, you know, having a six-shot lead
00:17going into the weekend. It would have been a bitter pill to swallow if I wasn't able to get
00:21myself over the finish line. I said it at the start of the weekend here, I felt like the Grand
00:24Slam was the destination, and I realized it wasn't, you know, and I'm on this journey to,
00:30I don't know, I've just won my sixth major and I feel like I'm in a really good spot with
00:34my game
00:35and my body and, you know, I don't want to put a number on it, but I feel like this
00:39win is just,
00:39I don't want to say a stop on the journey, but it's, yeah, it's just a part of the journey.
00:44And, you know, I still have things that I want to achieve, but I still want to enjoy it as
00:49well.
00:49You know, I've waited so long to win the Masters and all of a sudden I win two in a
00:52row, so I still
00:53want to enjoy it. I've got a couple of weeks off before I go back to play competitive golf,
00:57but I don't think I'll go through that lull of motivation or the sort of things that I was
01:03feeling last year post-winning this tournament.
