Tiger Woods' 1997 Augusta performance was legendary, but the numbers are even more shocking when you consider the equipment. We break down his stats and discuss what his power would translate to with modern technology.
Transcript
00:00His average drive that week was 323 yards.
00:03That'd be a really long week now.
00:05But in 1997, with a little spoiler alert, a 43 and a half inch, 130 grams steel shafted driver and
00:14a wound golf ball.
00:15It's just ridiculous.
00:16He had 180 miles an hour plus ball speed, which is well above PGA Tour average now, and over 320
00:23yards.
00:23I can't even tell you with that equipment how mind blowing that is.
00:26What's that in today's money if we were to like sort of translate that?
00:29I mean, is it even like if you gave that human being, i.e. Tiger in 1997, today's equipment?
00:35Yeah, you'd need to know the input.
00:37You'd need to know what that club head speed was to be able to go, well, okay, that would probably
00:42equate to this output.
00:43And you were just guessing that club head speed because it wasn't measured then.
00:48But I very much believe that week he was swinging over 130 miles an hour consistently all week.
00:54What that would translate to today with a 45.75 inch graphite shafted driver doesn't even bear thinking about that.
01:02He was a joke.
