Steve takes the school-day fantasy and replaces it with something messier: one brutal day at a reform school, where the headteacher is trying to keep order while his own mental health is falling apart in real time. It’s not a “kids these days” morality play. The movie also follows Shy, a troubled student who can’t decide whether he’s about to lash out or just quietly crack. Violence and fragility sit side by side, and the story keeps asking a simple question: who exactly is supposed to hold it together when everyone’s already under pressure?

If you like character-driven tension with a bit of dark humor, this one’s worth your time.

Steve ist so eine Schul-Drama-Sache, die nicht so tut, als wäre alles irgendwie „kontrollierbar“. Der Leiter einer Reformschule versucht an einem einzigen, unerbittlich langen Tag, seine Schüler nicht komplett aus der Spur zu schieben. Nebenbei läuft bei ihm natürlich auch innerlich nichts rund. Und als wäre das nicht schon genug, zockt auch noch der junge Shy zwischen Wut und Verletzlichkeit hin und her. Ein Teil von ihm will ausbrechen, der andere Teil will endlich irgendwo ankommen. Spannend ist daran vor allem, wie ehrlich das Ganze wirkt. Keine großen Gesten, eher das schleichende Gefühl, dass jeder falsche Ton schon zu viel ist.
